I purchased the advanced AV kit for my X-Box today, to add s-video out and digital audio out. I hooked up the digital audio, and it didn’t work, so I started getting angry. My roommate suggested that the cable probably is bad since the PS2 never worked with the digital audio out. So I swapped cables with the DVD player cable, which I know worked, and nothing worked now. After some trial-and-error, I discovered that my precious Marantz receiver has a defective fifth TOS link port. This is bad because I only have five digital audio ports, and four are now used.
On the plus side, the X-Box (DD 5.1) now sounds better than the GCN (Pro Logic). Explosions from MechAssault are just unbelievably spectacular. Pirate Radio from Jet Set Radio Future now puts every other game OST to shame. Oh, the effect sounds from Halo are just as impressive as those in Metroid Prime.
Now for the real test– PDO.
