anime… party?

Oh man, I just spent the last two minutes rolling on the floor. Why? This Detroit News article on “How to throw your own anime party.” That’s one awesome party that they have there… I wonder if the cops have dropped by yet. Still, the anime street cred is very low… where’s the PVC of Meer? No limited edition Powered Natsumi? Not even a poster of Osaka? No racks and racks of anime DVDs? Check out the guy’s anime blog. My advice? If you want to have a good time watching anime with a lot of people, think Genshiken.
Genshiken is plain fun, and it’s even better if your friends are also readers of the manga series.
I personally suggest Ichigo Mashimaro, no knowledge needed, just enjoyment.
I can just see the latest headline:
“Five Arrested in Canadian Anime Party Underage Sex Ring”
Haha, this is funny. I didnt even know Detroit News had anything about anime in it, and I live near Detroit.
The anime sceen here is totally weak. But they did start up a con last year. Maybe it will be better.
As for the asian markets that guy listed… those are pretty much all we got. lol
I can’t believe the Detroit News actually has an anime blog. Although how could they put Sakura-chan in the graphic at the top of the article, and then not mention CCS under “what to watch”? Blasphemy.
When I was young, best series for anime party was Uruseiyatsura. The danger was that inevitably, all of us made a mess by laughing or choking, at least once per hour. WE had to institute a rule mandating no food nor drink during the viewing of Uruseiyatsura on pain of being forced to go to nearest stores to buy the snacks demanded by others in attendance.
Hey, I’d love a poster of Osaka. But there’s never one, or is there? Not even on the Internet.
Meer PVC doesn’t give street cred, my worthless younger brother once spoke of her and he is no otaku. Nay no less than a shrine dedicated to our Lady Suzumiya Haruhi-sama is the the mark of an upper level otaku. That and/or a collection of models spanning Gundam, Nadesico, and Macross. Wall scrolls are also adequate substitutions.
Twinkie sushi, good grief he is definitely an American pig with his high fat foods. Real fan boys and fan girls choose Otoro.
One word of advice though Grave of Fireflies is not a good Ghibli to have a party with especially with food involved.
IchiMashi is a little too slow moving for a “party” moreover, if you want a party like that, shouldn’t it really bring out the core Genshiken ideas, like a few people playing 2D fighters or shooters on the DC, while a couple of other people watch some Haruhi, or some other fun, laugh out loud show like that. Watching drama shit at a party is a mood killer. Party means fun, not quiet contemplation.
Wow…
Nice Find, Jason.
Back when my friends and I had anime-viewing slumber parties (Ah, high school…) we watched a lot of mahou shoujo… Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, Kaitou Saint Tail, Kaitou Jeanne… stuff like that. There was some Weiss Kreuz and Tenshi ni Narumon involved… one time we watched Violinist of Hameln. Big mistake… so depressing. One time I tried to get them to watch Digi Charat… I was nearly murdered. -.-; We would always get Mountain Dew, pizza rolls, and sometimes oreos. Rarely. It was fun… but I think I prefer to watch anime by myself these days.
Am I alone when I say I want to punch that guy in the face? >>
Nice find, though… made me laugh quite a bit.
