Okay, enough ranting about the English language… it’s time to get back on track. What graced the telebi tonight… ?
World Series of Poker (TV) — airs on ESPN, Travel channel. Follows die hard poker players who anted up $10k to play in a multi-million dollar winner-take-all tournament. Plays Texas hold ’em, and the action is actually quite enjoyable. I never knew poker could be fun to watch, then again, most of it is watching how the players react and bluff rather than flopping cards. Verdict? Mildly addictive, watch with caution.
Spiderman (TV) — airs on MTV, yes, I actually tuned to MTV. The new spidey series tries to be edgier and hipper as Peter is now a hip young college student, and Mary Jane runs around in tank tops. It’s very flatly animated, and the dialogue and storyline are just typical superhero cheese. There’s really nothing exciting about this except that Doogie Howser voices spidey. Verdict? Best thing on MTV, but that’s not saying much.
Queer Eyes for Straight Guy (TV) — airs on Bravo, the alternate lifestyle channel. It wasn’t my idea to watch this. It’s about five gay guys giving one straight guy dating advice, and they really do a good job pimping him up. My problem with the show is that any guy can be pimped up with money, and there’s really no way a normal guy can afford some of clothes that they buy– they need to be more like Date Plate on Food Network or Trading Spaces on TLC where the guys have a set limit of money to spend. Verdict? Wholesome fun for the whole family!
Stripperrela (TV) — airs on TNN, the country music network. Created by Stan “I Luv Milking X-Men” Lee, Stripperrela is an animated story that follows around the adventures of a stripper by day, superheroine by night, Pamela Lee. It’s extremely racy for something that’s aired on standard Dish, and there are moments that go beyond good taste… like how the whole OP is just Pamela’s character stripping and those vibrating bananas. I kept thinking, “Wow, I bet some Japanese kids are fansubbing this into Japanese right now and distroing over BitTorrent.” Strangely, this was more entertaining than MTV’s Spiderman. Verdict? Exactly what a guy needs after watching Queer Eyes.
Guilty Gear Reloaded (Game) — it’s called “Sammy needs to make a quick $” (or yen). The problem is that this game does not add anything to already excellent Guilty Gear X2. In fact, it takes a step backwards in that it’s missing the bonus characters, and Robo-Ky v2 is a pretty lame and rushed addition. It’s not like Dynasty Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends where they actually added items and gameplay… here, it’s the same thing as the last game with a few moves nerfed. Verdict? Toss this back, next to Devil May Cry 2.
