The following is from June’s Animage reader poll.
Favorite Anime Series

- Mobile Suit Gundam Seed
- Get Backers
- Saiyuki Reload
- Uchuu no Stellvia
- Inuyasha
- D.C. Da Capo
- Prince of Tennis
- Peace Maker Kurogane
- Naruto
- D.N.Angel
- Onegai Twins
- 12 Kingdoms
- Kaleidostar
- Ojamajo Doremi Dokkan!
- One Piece
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
- Hikaru no Go
- Meitantei Loki Ragnarok
- Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi
I’m not surprised at the over-abundence of mindless shounen… more than half the list consists of that category. Three romantic comedies… and I’m amazed that Onegai Twins is ranked so high… especially when Fumoffu aired in roughly the same period. And this is from a magazine that two years ago ranked Chidori ahead of Belldandy. Da Capo’s the only dating game that made it, and it’s vastly inferior to both Tsukihime and Yami. My gosh, did Narg write in like ten thousand votes for Yoriko? I’m also surprised Naruto is so low… it’s by far the most l33ched anime looking at tracker stats. Maybe it’s because Americans like pointless ninja antics more than the Japanese. Then there’s Kaleidostar ranked ahead of Stand Alone Complex. I don’t get it.
Most of my favorites from the past season were all left out in the cold… my top five from the past year in no particular order:
- Fumoffu
- Yami to Boushi
- Jubei-chan 2
- Stand Alone Complex
- Scrapped Princess
(excellent humor)
(excellent chix0r on chix0r moments)
(l33t ninja action)
(a bit too well-written)
(cutest superweapons)
But there’s boy on boy action in Prince of Tennis AND Get Backers! And they’re both like crack!
