Well, it was a blowout. Poor Nanoha as Chidori wipes the floor with her 61% to 39% and earning Chidori a spot in the finals. Chidori overcame two niche favorites, Suigintou and Nanoha, to reach the finals… will her general appeal (and swimsuit fanservice) be enough to make her the first AoMM March Madness champion?
The last semifinal match pits the two cutest chibi characters in anime history… I mean… look at them! å¯æ„›ã„!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe shana is winning the poll right now. I mean..loli beats goddess? Belldandy is pretty much THE perfect woman. She has awesome powers, kind, caring, faithful.
This’ll be close… but I’m still voting Belldandy, if only because she can appear loli as well as chibi in the series without needing to step completely out of character, as Shakugan no Shana-tan does. :D Plus, she can destroy a lot more than Shana could, if absolutely necessary… although Shana is more emotionally capable of it than Belldandy ever would be.

As much as I like Shana, I have to give it to Belldandy.
Besides, all Shana would have to do is look at Keiichi the wrong way and Belldandy would show her what for.
My vote goes to Shana, but my feelings for Belldandy are with her, she was the first female anime character that I fall in love with, Arigatou Locomotion LA for that chance. And now I hope a victory for Shana, maybe tomorrow’s final episode of Shakugan no Shana can make a BIG difference between win and defeat for her.

Jason: Nope, although with the way Celastin in the movie acted, I’m pretty sure he was a loli too… so I guess that’s why he voted for the real child in body, rather than the ageless goddess for whom a body is a vessel easily adjusted to circumstances.

Depends on if the subject is male or female, Musashken: one such rapist got off with only 9 years for raping his stepdaughter after she fell down the stairs and lay dying on the floor, instead of calling 911 like a normal person, and another got just 60 days from the judge in Vermont for raping a seven year old for four years. Incidentally, you get more time for drunk driving causing death or even without doing so than this.
Besides, Belldandy can be a little Flame Haze if she chooses to change form that way. Shana’s stuck as a little girl for the rest of her life, due to her job.. which will make Yuuji’s own life somewhat interesting (read: inconvenient) in the years ahead… if only because none of them will age, IIRC, which means that they’ll be eternally children despite being old enough to vote, drink, or drive.

Sure, Belldandy has a lot of attributes that Shana doesn’t, but because her status as a goddess gave her all that, include her personality. I don’t remember any change in her way to be, apart of falling in love with Keiichi, while Shana discovers a new world that never were showed to her.

Well, you don’t need to pe a lolipedo to like Shana better than the competition presented here… The competittion is simply… too much. As others have said, not much character developepent and too perfect…

Shana doesn’t develop all that much, ultimately, IMO: she basically stays the same, but it’s more that she develops feelings for Yuuji, and the human world in general, which in the end leads to her final actions in the end of the series. Yuuji is somewhat better than Keiichi, IMO, if only because he’s somewhat more useful in terms of the show… although both of them are heads and tails above many other male lead characters in anime.
Personally, I don’t see how Shana going around in bandages or refusing to admit she has feelings for Yuuji advances the cause of women’s lib any, but that’s just me. Sure, she has a sword and kills things… but Wilhemina and Margery together perpetrate the stereotypes that women must either be sexy and brazen or demure and subservient… except when it comes to killing people.

Well, my original point was to make sure you people remember this.. SHANA is not only a LOLI icon, she has more cualitis within. And the fact this match is sod tie is because many of us knows that truth.

Belldandy does have her flaws. And it’s these moments which makes AMG so fun to read. Whenever some girl gets cozy with Keiichi, Bell’s “perfect” composure doesn’t seem to change but we can see in her eyes the spark of jealousy and poof something explodes in the house for no reason. Never make a goddess jealous. Because AMG is such a long series, it takes quite a long time for Bell to gain human traits but eventually she does.

Most of the supporting female cast in SnS are in very traditional female roles (victims, sexpots, housewives, maids). In contrast, AMG has Megumi (female biker/mechanic type), Sora (member of the Auto Club, later its president), Chihiro Fujimi (founder and former president of the Auto Club, former member of a racing team pit crew, current owner of a customizing/chop shop for bikes, enterpreneur), and even Urd and Skuld used to run Yggdrasil as debuggers and system admins – all very non-traditional, technical trades and occupations which contrast strongly with the very ‘feminine’ roles that Chigusa and the others in SnS occupy. And none of AMG’s female supporting cast spend much time as victims of circumstance, unlike Hirai Yukari who ends up being completely helpless and ‘disappeared’, never to be spoken of again?
And… somehow… a goddess whose sisters were sysadmins for a goddess-supporting computer system, who works in the chop-shop run by another woman enterpreneur, whose boyfriend’s sister is tomboy, and who is also a member of an auto club which has a visible female presence there besides herself, founded by the woman whose shop she works at now… completely sets Women’s Lib back more than a show where women are either victims, sexpots, or housewives and maids?

Don’t get me wrong people. I actually enjoy watching Shana anime but it’s the story that gets me going. I seriously don’t give a damn about how Yuji finally ends up with Shana (haven’t watched ep 24 btw) since he’s such an idiot. Even Shirou of FSN is beginning to be a lesser moron than Yuji. And if Kazumi is on the poll, I’d rather vote for her than Shana. At least Kazumi works hard to get Yuji look at her. I don’t hate Shana (I find Shana-tan cute) but I think there are better anime brats out there that deserve better votes.

I don’t see how this kind of “legal” cheating is any different from the regular cheating. You are using your control over your friends to gain more influence in the voting. Regular cheaters are using their control over computers to gain more influence in the voting.
Anyway, I am sure that cheating of both kinds happen regularly for both contestants here.

I hated the very image that Belldandy projected. “Perfect girl”, falls for a colorless, characterless idiot. Seriously, AMG has a much longer lifespan than Shana(come on, AMG is already 10+ years while Shana is only out like this year and who the hell reads the Shana novels other than the Japanese?). So it’s inevitable that there should be a larger fanbase for Bell than Shana. You Shana fans should be proud that you’re neck to neck with Bell.
As for you female Bell-haters, don’t even talk abt Women’s lib here. This is a poll of female characters (which is about as degrading as a Miss Universe contest) for hormonal fanboys like me. And this is ANIME, purely fictitious so there’s nothing wrong to fantasize abt some “perfect” woman.
Most importantly, anime is a Japanese product. Many of you seem to forget the very core of Japanese social values, the partriachal influence is still very much present in today’s Japan. The Yamato Nadeshiko (The Perfect Japanese Female Homemaker) concept was a highly regarded ideal in Japan. Even now, Japanese women aim to be the perfect housewife. There’s nothing much the rest of the world can do about this. Belldandy is just a remnant avatar of what a Nadeshiko is.

That’s because many Shana viewers are probably newbie anime viewers. Belldandy supporters are probably old-timer anime viewers like me. We have seen so many animes in one lifetime and seriously, Shana is just one of them. However series like AMG are actually considered classics and they leave deep impressions in the otaku world (you can’t deny that AMG was freaking popular during its time in Japan). In 10 years time, if Shana is still popular and around, we will be having the exact same argument with fans of a popular anime 10 years later. The reason why so many pple voted for Shana is because it’s one of the most popular series THIS year. I doubt most of the Belldandy supporters actually know about this site. Even I knew abt this only when I heard abt the Shana vs Saber poll from another forum. And that’s because I’m a FSN fan.
And I give Jason 3 thumbs up for giving me something so interesting to read.
Well, you do have a point there, and while I admit that 10 years ago I was faar to young to be exposed to the full spectra of animè, I am not fully a newcommer though (as I have watched several anime, including the two discussed here), and have also managed to go throughs everal of the classics. Having seen shana, including the ending, I think it was a rather deserving series not only as 05-06 goes, but also as older series go. Not the best series in hsitory nor my favourite, it provided a nice diversion from the many series which have been going on one after the other, after all it’s the way the world should go, the youngsters taking the place of the geezers :D
TBH what REALLY won shana over me was her Urmi-like act during the beginnign when she appeard in school, as Urumi is probabelly one of my ABOSULTE animè favourite characters, anihilating even beloved Shana here…
But hey, de gustibus non est disputandum, so let’s just all praise the blog for the fun (it really kept me going through the _two_ assigments which have kept me busy for the last, uhm, 30 hours straight :P)

After reading all these posts i think i am clearly Belldandy’s side now. Shana is popular at the moment, but i doubt anyone remember her 2015. It’s hard to find character that first aired 12 years ago and still has so large fanbase among anime “veterans”.

I’m not arguing about whether Shakugan as an entire show advances women’s lib at all! And AGAIN, I haven’t seen the entire series, so I don’t even know some of the characters mentioned yet – and this isn’t a vote between Ah Megamisama and Shakugan no Shana as series, it’s a vote between BELLDANDY and SHANA as characters – as a CHARACTER as tons of people have mentioned before, Belldandy possesses all those “nadeshiko” / perfect woman traits that ANY real woman today should not be subject to and expect to be upheld. That applies to Belldandy REGARDLESS of her opponent.
I am not making a “Shana > Belldandy” comparison here, nor am I trying to swing votes in these comments (cos hey, we all know how effective a post would be here in changing your minds, right?)
And look at the legion of fans that love her because of those perfect qualities – over decades. OVER DECADES! Look at that idealism there! I mean, there’s nothing with liking a perfect character – go for it, it’s your fandom. I will never tell another person to “like this character” or “hate this character” because I don’t believe in changing people’s minds like that. Belldandy is a Goddess, replete with a Goddess’ knowledge and maturity. She’s in her 20s and has gorgeous hair and physique. Belldandy is kind and generous and funloving.

She is like… 4 a half feet tall and has a big sword ^^;;; Among the various pedo-fanservice shots of her, she’s got to have one of the most child-like bodies in all of anime. Ok, sometimes Shana runs around naked in bandages, and there are several mild and not-so-mild sexual images created throughput the show, but that is not pornographic at all, and I beleave the show was made in a manner balanced enough to avoid making the fanservice take over the quality of the story overall.

WOW lots of posts but man come on this is a popularity poll. Just as the two cadidates are diffrent. WE ALL ARE DIFFRENT TOO. We each have are likes and dislikes. some of us like the perfect house wife and some like someone with their good-sides and bad-sides. Some of us are attracted to the ideal perfect person and some i guess are attracted to things that satisfiy their inner lolipedofin. Either way arguing about who is better is kinda pointless but very fun to read.

I do not call myself a veteran just because I’ve seen all the animes you stated above. I’m merely one who watches too much anime. And I agree that DBZ wasn’t as “great” as Naruto or Bleach but that’s too unfair a comparison. DBZ was the pioneer in introducing fireball and quick fighting techniques to manga. It was revolutionary during its time. How the hell you think recent authors got their ideas and influences in fighting mangas?? And I LOVE the old Gundam series (Z, ZZ ec). But I also like Gundam wing for its refreshing use of Bishonen protagonists. The thing about AMG is that after all these years, it’s still going strong! And it’s keeping up with times. If I were to compare AMG with even older classics like Maison Ikkoku, hell I’d still be in a loss since I respect these titles.

Not follwing the same laws, yes. At least for italy, minors who engage in sexual activity with other agreeing minors, providing the age difference is not extreeme (like 13 and 17 or something like that) its not illegal. The age of consent there for example is 14, but rape is a statute which is above any other law, including age restricitons. If a minor does rape another person, be it a minor or an overaged person, the minor can still pe prosecuted under appling minor laws. This, of course, usually differs from the normal alws and sentences which are produced for adults, but yes, rape would be prosecuted. I’m sure this is the same in pretty much any other country, special cases exempted of course.
BTW: if you’re 14 you shouldn’t be reading this blog, it’ll damage your brain and wou’ll end up like the rest of the people here, or if all goes bad, like the blogger that hosts the place… run away till you can! :P [yes this part was a joke, don’t ban me :P]

One thing I will note – Belldandy has evolved over the years, although at heart she’s still a ‘nice person’ with darker aspects to her personality which have revealed themselves over the years.. which she’s had to deal with.
Shana, at the start, didn’t have much of a personality at all, in contrast – but over the course of the show, she’s picked up one; she’s a classic tsundere-type, although it took the Ball Masque arc, and Wilhemina repeatedly trying to kill Yuuji, to admit to herself (and then him) that she did like him, even if she’s not quite sure of why she does so.
Honestly, part of her (Shana’s) popularity here is that she’s got a show which is current, which makes her a hot property, anime-wise. Between the fact her series JUST ended, and the announcement that she’s got a movie upcoming, she’s very much in the minds of many new (or at least newly returned) anime voters. Belldandy’s series ended last year, and the new season hasn’t started yet… PLUS her movie was a few years back, along with the OVAs, which means that her popularity is based mostly on people who remember those, and who follow the ongoing manga series. Some of the conflicts I’ve seen on this thread stem from that ‘new girl versus established character’ arguments, although the ‘women’s lib’ ones… well, Shana learning to cook for Yuuji to make him like her, and the other main female character being very ‘stereotypical submissive stalker’ girl aren’t exactly outstanding examples of progress for women characters either. Even BELLDANDY is out in the workforce now, albeit of her own free will and to help Keiichi and Chihiro at their shop.
Still, why bother stuffing the ballot box? This has happened for Shana at least twice now (well, three times in total: two during the first vote against Mai, once here), and was why I initially commented she should be disqualified. For those who suggested someone stuffing the ballot box was trying to get Belldandy advanced through default, I have to point back to the previous two attempts where this did NOT happen, so suspect they’re just being idiots. Advertising the vote on your blog’s fine – Kurogane did it, and in a way which isn’t more than a simple ‘Shana fans, go vote!’ statement, which works for me. Encouraging people to vote for Shana because “Belldandy’s old and domestic or too perfect” isn’t, just as telling people on your blog not to vote for Shana because she’s a useless sword-wielding maniac who appears in bandages more often than Rei isn’t.
Incidentally, I could’ve done without all the panty flashes in the last ep – Marjorie by herself is enough fanservice for almost anybody. Remember her grabbing Eita and Ike and holding them to her at the end? Now THAT’S fanservice. :D

I’ve watched all of AMG! and Shana, and Shana just happens to be who I like more. So although it’s easy to get caught up in arguing why one should vote for this character or that character (myself included), all you need to do is vote for which you like more~
Aaaaand… because I love to put my input in so much, I must make a comment on the post from a while ago saying how AMG supporting girls show more rejection to female gender roles when compared to Shana supporting girls. That was a bad, for lack of a better word, point to make. It is a fight between Shana and Belldandy themselves, after all~
And I do not see Shana wanting to learn to cook to be something she should be attacked on so quickly. I am quite a femminist, and I see nothing wrong with cooking. Or wanting to learn to cook for someone important. I have that feeling myself. But when a couple is living together, I believe both people should do equal work, both at home and at their respective workplaces.

In the bottom of my heart I love Belldandy, because Ah My Goddess was the first anime series (OVA in that time) that I was aware, like my first time. After more than seven years along the road… more than 500 anime series, more than 100 movies, and more than 700 OVAs, is hard to say how much am I attached to some characters. Indeed Belldandy is one of the most loved by me, but that doesn’t mean I can appreciate in different ways every character I saw. The first time I knew about Shakugan no Shana was on October 2005, thanks to a good pal and his habit of showed me everything about Anime Network. After seeing the trailer, I make big hopes for Shakugan no Shana, and thankfully my guess was right. Since then, week after week, episode after episode, Shana make a space in my mind, not because I like lolis, the only fact I know for sure is that I like her way to be… is like when you fall in love with somebody, at the beginning you don’t now why, but slowly your mind learn to deal with it.
Maybe Shakugan no Shana is still in diapers, but every history has a beginning, then every step help it to be remembered or forgotten. A few hours remains to the death line, but these three days had been fun… so, let support our favorite until the end.

Personally, I have to agree that bringing anime and different culture roles and rules into a discussion regarding gender politics and theory is a bad idea. However… no matter which side you’ve voted for, I’d have to say that this is a nice, tight race – as tight as the Mai/Belldandy one, with good points for both characters.
We’ll see how Shana does in the movie… and if she and Kazumi get any further in their War over Yuuji than they did in the series since he hasn’t commited to ANYONE yet, merely promising Shana that she wouldn’t face her possible end alone, which by itself may mean either true friendship… or perhaps something a bit more. We just don’t know yet.

I also just realized that I voted for the losing side for EVERY SINGLE match! Am I really weird in my preferences? Oh well. I guess the gods of female anime character polls (AKA Jason & co) are out to get me or something.
