So we’re still stuck trying to figure out if there’s an anime character capable of defeating Miki’s mom. I’m been stuck on this as well… my current train of thought is why fight her directly? Maybe someone like The King would have success wooing her. Anyway, great comments all around.
I wonder what ever happened to Miki’s dad. Did Miki’s Mom break him? What sort of man could win the heart of someone like Onimaru Makiko and survive the loving!? – Gary Ee
I’m wondering about this too. It’ll be funny if Makiko Onimaru was her new name after she and her late husband, Maebara, fled out of Hinamizawa. After all. she has the same hair color as Rena.
Sorry if I’m stupid, but what exactly was she scared of? Was it the spider? And then she got over it really quickly? – wp
That Miki would never find a husband and have to live with her forever? Actually, I don’t know either… she could just have made it up to throw Miki off the trail. Or maybe “weakness” is exaggerated when it comes to her just like how “enough” is exaggerated when it comes to number of meido in an anime series.
The watermelon miki scene was just ace. I haven’t laughed that hard since FMP fumoffu. – Goshinga
Agreed. Pure funniest moment in anime since Sagara’s rugby match. (Though I think they’re cabbages…)
So nobody is going to mention one of the highlights of the show? Did anybody else realise that Nya-san talked normally during his “I need more training†speech? – Skane
The phrases “Nya-san” and “highlight of the show” should never be used together. I feel strongly about this.
It’s a shame not many people know about this show. – t3h Dave
I think fanboys get too absorbed into what they want to see in a show and what they actually see in a show. I think a lot of people write off Miki because it’s gag-filled and doesn’t have the same cachet as Kanon, NHK, or some other better known series. When I originally asked what I should blog about for Summer 06, no one suggested Muteki… and it’s definitely one of the more entertaining shows on right now.
I’m definitely enjoying the simplicity and lack of egoness of the show. It just tries to make us laugh, and it succeeds. It’s like the director just said, “You know what, I don’t care. I think this would be hilarious, and we’re going for it.” Miki and her friends just feel like they were made by people who enjoy anime. Toss in some Megumi fanservice, Hell’s Bunny, Sensei, and outfit changes, it just took Muteki Kanban Musume to another level.
BTW, there are only three episodes left; do you think they could pull another 13 episodes? – Nemo_N
I think they could, but I doubt they’ll make more. You’d think that for such a simple dynamic between the characters that they’d run out of ideas by now… but I think it’s great that even though the cast is small and fairly well stereotyped by now, they’re still coming up with organic storylines.
(For example, rather than a queen flying through their window and forcing them to travel with some long lost fiancee, the plot to overthrow Miki’s mom came about kinda naturally.)
Y’know, I think shows where *everybody* is an idiot are funnier than ones where there’s a couple comic relief characters, or one or two smart ones. – Kendra Kirai
This is the exact reason why I’m still watching Battlestar Galactica. “You need plutonium? Why, I’ll just give you a bomb! I can trust you… it’s not like you gave out the secret codes for all our defenses before!” I think Roger Ebert was the first person to use the meme “idiot plot” to refer to stories driven by idiotcy. While he’s referring to deus ex machina via idiots, Muteki is definitely moths to the fire.
You could always have Ginko exorcise whatever Mushi gives her that freakish strength and stamina, and turn her back into the cute little flashback-Makiko from episode 5, at which time she will instantly start crushing on Ginko like every female (and most males) in the Mushishi-verse. – quigonkenny
I thought about Ginko for a second… there’s just one problem: the mushis would be scared of her.
(Have you seen the screenshots for the Mushishi live action movie [link to review with mild spoilers]? Ginko wears traditional clothes… BTW, it will be screened in Toronto this week.)
Well, Alucard pointed out that “only a human can kill a monsterâ€, a motto he follows after his defeat in the hands of the Hellsing family. Miki’s mum would be exactly one of those people whom Alucard alluded to.^_^ – Vallen Valiant
+10 fanboy points. Great comment. I have nothing to add.
Haven’t you read, she’s part of the new EVA movies, they replaced eva 01 with her. – SH
In that case, I do NOT want to know how Shinji pilots/rides her… – Haesslich
Yep, these are my readers.
Seriously – DO you want to know? I don’t.
If they can’t produce more episodes, at least I demand a beach/pool OVA, with Megumi and Hell’s Bunny as the leads.
> Have you seen the screenshots for the Mushishi live action movie [link to review with mild spoilers]?
“Joe Odagiri stars as a bugcatcher who’s after Mushi, basically tiny bugs with fluorescent tentacles in Japanese animator Katsuhiro Otomo’s ‘Bugmaster.'”
Wow… that review is astoundingly off. You’d figure it’d eventually sink in that it wasn’t attempting to be a horror movie.
>>>Did anybody else realise that Nya-san talked normally during his “I need more training†speech? – Skane
I hadn’t picked that up before seeing the above remark, and watching the scene again, it certainly appears
Kankuro is “regressing” back to a time before his training, begging the question of who exactly he trained with. I’m going with the obvious choice and guessing the reason he still can’t beat Miki is he skipped out on his master before learning the finer points of soft drink warming. If he pops out of a Coke machine a couple episodes from now and says, “Taion desu, nya,” she might just be in trouble.
>>>I’m been stuck on this as well… my current train of thought is why fight her directly?
Speaking of Nekokami-sama, he might just be able to annoy Makiko-sama to the point where she might kill herself.
just send in the mai-otome cast to go take her on ….they honestly dont die…well that or any of the other “imortal” charactars sunrise has made over the years….
>>>I’m been stuck on this as well… my current train of thought is why fight her directly?
lmao lets go make a cannon and shoot chiyo-chan at her (sorry got azumaga on the brain….)
>>>Haven’t you read, she’s part of the new EVA movies, they replaced eva 01 with her. – SH
In that case, I do NOT want to know how Shinji pilots/rides her… – Haesslich
oh god thats gonna give me nightmares….but really how the hell would he?
In the vein of PPD, has anyone considered that Makiko’s maiden name might have been “Ichijou”? She certainly fits the breed. ~_~
“(Though I think they’re cabbages…)”
Haha, yeah. It seems obvious now that I looked at it again. I think her football shaped head threw me off at first.
>> Seriously – DO you want to know? I don’t.
Well, let’s look at it this way: Unit 1 is already supposed to be Shinji’s mom, and the plug is really a metaphor for a womb… actually, forget I said anything. My, they’re skipping a lot of plot in Welcome to the NHK…
(I don’t know where else to post this…so do excuse me.)
Here’s something to jump our guns on!

I don’t know moonspeak, nor do I know if it is offical or not though.
So we’re still stuck trying to figure out if there’s an anime character capable of defeating Miki’s mom.
Any anime character? Are we permitted to consider characters like Vegita, who can destroy entire planets?
Jason: I -told- you that we didn’t want to know.
I think the only anime character capable of defeating Miki’s mom is probably in .hack, if you moved Miki’s mom into their realm rather than the real world, since they could hack her stats down to minimum, then data-drain her.
I still think this is the best Miki expression to date:

She looks so different that it’s hilarious… or masculine. Or both – something which Kankuro’s yet to do.
I think if they data-drain Miki’s mom, she’ll turn into Skeith…
