I’m beginning to think we need to have an intervention for Sumeragi’s drinking problem… but then the odds of her inappropriately seducing a Gundam Meister would be reduced… oh forget it… let’s just stop by BevMo and get her even more alcohol.
(Without Ms. Wang screentime recently, Sumeragi has really stepped up to the plate.)
While this episode felt like pure filler, it’s actually a nice bridge after the previous intense episodes features the AEU intervention and the recent HRL assault. I’m definitely curious about the Gundam Meisters’ backgrounds, if only because each Meister seems to delight in being even more mentally unstable than the previous. We all know Setsuna has some social and loose lips issues, but Allelujah trumps him with a dual personality split that reminds me of a less intense Nyuu/Lucy split. Add to that, Tieria doesn’t seem all that normal himself, and we’re in a position where the most seemingly normal Meister is the one that hits on a 14 year old girl. It’s beginning to look like that Mako-cakes is not crazy enough to be a Meister. The dream, like the 0-fer 2007 Miami Dolphin season, is dead.
One complaint that I do have about Gundam 00 (but Gundam 00 has so far destroyed all my expectations for it, even if we didn’t get Ms. Wang fanservice this episode) is that every loose end can be tidied up by blowing up a building. They took out the terrorists comically by attacking their bases, and now Allelujah slays the demons from his past by launching missiles into a research building. If only life were this easy.
Points of Interest
Oh man, really reminds me of Elfen Lied. Or maybe Xenosaga. “Hey, we got this potentially damaged kid who created a second personality to handle the trauma of murdering others… he’ll make a great pilot for our machine of death!”
So depending on how he parts his hair, he’s either less or more less mentally stable? I am giddy at the thought of more emo facial distortions from Allelulah/Hallelujah… but I’m not as giddy at the prospect that we could be seeing Allelulah selfcest doujinshis. There’s just so many pitfalls with Gundam 00… though I might concede that because I’m so worried about Gundam Wing breaking out (still), I’m not giving enough attention to the Marina x Shirin doujinshi that are out there.
Allelujah got it right: Celestial Being is a global terrorist organization, who cares if they are obeying drinking laws? And what drinking laws? It’s 21 in the US, 19 in Canada, and many places don’t have a drinking age. Of course, the 20 refers to Japan’s drinking age.
(Of course, it was just, uh, 3 minutes prior that Allelujah slaughtered dozens or hundreds of innocent kids. With so much hypocrisy, I think it qualifies Sumeragi to run for President of the United States. Or at least coach NCAA football in the SEC.)
Can someone… anyone… explain to me what does Louise’s mom coming to visit her have anything to do with Celestial Being? I am glad though that she’s finally changing outfits, but the scenes with her, her mom, and Saji are quickly turning into a really bad romantic comedy.
We finally have a name! Shirin! I still think that Shirin’s jealous of Corner because she wants Marina all to herself and doesn’t take kindly to the nice man from the UN.
Graham Acre! How ya been? All the mecha battles so far have been, uh, very one-sided in one way or another, and hopefully we can finally see the Flag Fighters in action and put up a decent fight against Celestial Being. Though I have to say, Graham Acre, Sergei, and Gauron are all more than competent foils for the Gundam Meisters. They all see more mentally stable and with it than the Meisters.
Tieria definitely wins the “how far up did you stick that rod up your ass?” award.
What’s with Sumeragi’s drink? Why is it in ball format?
(If you told me a year ago that the next Gundam series would feature an alcoholic strategic analyst in the running for Best Melonpan of 2007, I would have said, “If there is a Haruhi-sama, please let this happen.”)
My last word about the whole dodging laser issue is that lasers are well-understood transmissions of light. In order to transmit energy from A to B in space, you need light to do it. Particles or solids of any kind don’t work because (a) they would cause massive recoil in space and (b) space is absolute zero and would rob them of all energy before hitting a target, leaving only velocity kinetic damage. I’m going to believe that they are firing lasers, and that the pilots have undergone rigorous wrench dodging training with some HGH tossed in to accomplish this task.
(Of course, the laser dodging is still more realistic than the “plot” of Ninomiya-kun. My gosh, is every frickin’ girl on that series a succubus?)
And, finally, from last time…
AndreiBurnside: H/Allelujah has just become my favorite character. Because he snapped first, and there’s something hilarious about the absolutely psychopathic personality having Hallelujah as his designation. CAN I GET AN AMEN!
He’s not on my top 5 (bridge bunnies 4tw) nor is he even my favorite Meister (Lockon, just because he might be joining Mr. Wang in Dateline: To Catch a Predator, Sunrise Edition), but I think it speaks more of the cast that Sunrise has assembled than any lack of awesomeness on Allelujah’s part. If Allelujah were in Gundam X or Gundam Seed, he’d be a top character. (Though for Destiny, he’s not beating Meer.)
teabeans: Having watched and followed the gundam franchise long enough not to care about people dodging lasers be they actual beams of light or some supercharged mass of particles that seemingly travel at the speed of Roger Clemen’s fastball
That’s it! They’re dodging the lasers all thanks to HGH! I hope this doesn’t lead to a doujinshi about Tieria and Lockon injecting each other’s bare asses with HGH much like Clemens and Pettitte.
Northernshadows: Quote of the episode, though only relevant to this blog: “The plans are getting derailed!â€
It’s only relevant to this blog if Darry x Yoko or Kotomi x Kyou fanservice is involved.
IKnight: Celestial Being seems pretty broken, though I find it hard to sympathise with them. Which Gundams would the boys of Minami-ke pilot? Presumably Mako-cakes would pilot Indeterminate Gender Gundam (Virtue) . . .
Mako-cakes for Virtue is a great choice. I’d go with Fujioka for Dynames, since he’s the sane one. Hosaka would get Exia, since that’s the one that’s all flash but most useless. Touma would then get Kyrios, which shapeshifts. Also, shuttlecocks.
Lana: You know, I’d love to see a Gundam show with the Minami-ke boys instead of the four meisters. For god’s sake you can stick the male cast of EF in this show and they’d probably come of as more mentally stable and then you’d at least be sure that they are all straight.
Mmm… if we’re talking ef, this is harder. I’d say Renji for Kyrios, Hirono for Exia, Kyosuke for Dynames, and Kuze for Virtue. The only ones that’s really obvious is Kyosuke because of the lens, and Kuze because he’s as metrosexual as Nadleeh.
sixten: Sunao, Mudo, Kaoru, and Yasumi. They’re powered by Potemayo. Also, their questionable sexuality would make them fit in quite well as Gundam Meisters.
Sixten, I knew you were going to post this comment. The Potemayo cast is even harder than the ef cast. I don’t even know where to begin… I think they’ll make better pilots for Gundam Wing though… Shenlong for Mudo, Heavyarms for Yasumi, Sandrock for Kaoru, and Wing for Sunao. Sunao even has the silent Heero Yui stare down.
Laizane: They should have just made a sequel to Escaflowne…^^
Oh please no. The PS2 game was bad enough with Van fighting against F-14s in Escaflowne. If I were Sunrise, I’d focus more on upping the animation quality for Keroro Gunso. One thing that Gundam 00 reminds me is that Sunrise used to be one of the top studios in terms of animation quality… they still got some way to go, but Gundam 00 has been impressive in an HD standpoint.
Knowngni: Is it me or did I hear Fukuyama Jun’s voice (Lelouch) from that Wolf and Spice CM?
Yes, and as Syaoran Li already pointed out, Ami Koshimizu, Kallen’s seiyuu, voices Horo. In addition, Chloe is voiced by Nunnally’s seiyuu. I’m very excited that we have a good chunk of the Code Geass staff assembled for Wolf and Spice, but I’m very concerned about the director when I saw Cosprayers, Love Love, and Strawberry Panic on his resume. I’m beginning to be more and more concerned about this series now. I just hope it isn’t a Nagasarete Airantou level of disappointment.
Phil Collins: waitwaitwaitwaitwait. wait.
14? 14, you say?
Felt?
14?
Uh-oh…
I guess I AM one of your readers.
Yep, these are my readers.
This marks the 2nd time Ms.Sumeragi has attempted a shota-pickup…she
must have be a horrible judge of character haha.
well the meisters WERE designed to have women fawning all over them after all.
And can we stop discussing lasers? I mean, there’s so much else to focus on the screen (*coughmelonpancough*) and all we talk about are lasers. Where are the “Yes i am your reader” readers?
“Hey, we got this potentially damaged kid who created a second personality to handle the trauma of murdering others… he’ll make a great pilot for our machine of death!â€
Fei Fong Wong – Xenogears, anyone?
Well, for Xenosaga, Albedo and Rubedo ( Jr.) might be the equivalents, being twins.
You know, 11 eps in and this show still wasn’t quite as entertaining as Gundam Seed was to me… and I have no idea WHY.
It’s like outside of the girls I don’t really quite care for any of the characters… nor the mobile suits for that matter, and I’m practically a permanent resident of /m/.
Okay, fine. Don’t heed my warnings about $unrise.
Here’s some more stuff to ignore:
I’m currently “……….” with this series since it has Shirin’s nice hot ass, Rebecca Subaru and her BOYFRIEND, Light Yagami, Professor Despair, Miss Wang, and the “Titans – EVIL.” Other than that, ………………..
Warning: Logic ahead.
The ball form in her drink I’m guessing is the shape of the bottom of the inside of her cup. I know, there’s probably some other reason, like “oh, it’s zero gravity, but they’re still stuck to the floor” or some crap, but that’s what I’m going with. Simplest explanation and all.
As for the
“Northernshadows: Quote of the episode, though only relevant to this blog: “The plans are getting derailed!â€

Ahhhh, the pic that started it all.
Yeah the bottom is from the shape if the inside of the cup and the top part is from her swirling the drink
In regards to the wolf and spice CM, I am worried about that too. Argh! lets just hope it doesn’t get screwed up but with that producer’s past record, I highly doubt it.
Side-note:
I wonder how long before we get a group bath/onsen scene with sumeragi x felt x christine? Since we did get one in Gundam Seed with Lacus
As it’s Christmas, I prefer to think of the lasers as bright beams of love, but I realise this may be a minority view.
Sunrise had better integrate Louise’s Mum into the story sometime soon.
I think it is clearly an inconsistency oversight by the production team.
1. Why would there be a cover if the drink wasn’t floating?
2. Given the bottle sitting out there, that would imply that she poured it somehow, rather than being a prepackged beverage.
3. I’ve never seen water go convex like that when I swirl a drink.
4. What’s with the anti-gravity in the corridors but not in any of the rooms? Just goes to show you that this kind of oversight is happening all the time.
My money’s on her dying due to an intervention of sorts. I really can’t see anyone other way to incorporate her into the story.
>> Kotomi x Kyou fanservice
Please?
Fei’s hair would also to strange things just prior to his complete transformation. (At least Gundam don’t morph with the personalities.)
It would be more entertaining (though harder to explain) were (H)Allelujah to grow and shed sprout a Spock-like evil goatee on a moment’s notice.
Louise’s mom is Veda.
You can dodge a laser by moving right before it gets fired. While once shot, it’s light speed, but you see the guns light up before they fire, so you can dodge beforehand. Meh, why am I trying to makesense out of this?
Sumeragi should just spread her legs and take that laser right up her…um..for some extreme heat…
Does anyone think they can search up a good screenshot to get [H]Allelujah into the emo facial contortion pantheon? That freaking out and blowing up the building on the colony was classic stuff, but I couldn’t get a good enough shot of any of the emo.
I think the whole series will end with tieria finding setsuna in bed with veda
Wow, I feel dumb, only by Episode 11 did I realize this..
Sergei Smirnov is the unholy naming combination of Sergei Wong and a Alcoholic beverage. Suddenly I feel Like I understand the psyche of the writers at Sunrise a lot more…
This leaves only one question to be asked. Will Soma ask Sergei to sleep with her to ruin her Nan- er, Quantum brain cells…or will Smirnov offer her a few drinks and a hotel suite?
