“Well, she is at that age.”
(“That age” being… 14?)
Trying to decide what the new Lockon looks more like. A pirate? Or Geddoe from Suikoden III? In any case, I didn’t exactly understand why Meyrin suddenly developed a crush on Athrun or why Luna did the same for Shinn, but at least a possible Lockon and Felt pairing had some foreshadowing. But then again, I didn’t see Tieria x Lockon coming either… I’d always assumed that it would be Setsuna x Lockon, and then Tieria would be the generic bitch… butch… whatever.
(I also don’t understand why Sunrise doesn’t do a Gundam series with lesbian pilots? It worked so well for Full Metal Panic. If I were scripting a Gundam series, I’d definitely have lesbian pilots.)
Points of Interest
“He always acts tough, but he has a fragile side.”
The last thing I really needed to see was a melancholy Tieria with Lockon providing sympathy for him. The problem is that I just watched a similar scenario unfold… but it was between Hinagiku and Hayate… not two male Gundam Meisters.
“How long do you plan on doing this? It ain’t like you.”
OH GEASS NO!!!!!!!!
Well, Graham is upholding the literal words of his promise, not the spirit of his promise. Sigh. Okay, now outside of the bridge bunnies, I don’t like any of the characters in Gundam 00.
If you are smart enough to predict that evil men will come and kill you while you hibernate next to Philip J Fry, at least build some defenses. Or buy a bulletproof cryogenic chamber. And why do you need cryogenics on the moon anyway? Isn’t it damn cold as is?
(The funny thing is that Aeolia hides in his cryogenic chamber and wasn’t planning to leave until others have finished fighting for him. Why doesn’t he just lead his troops like a real man? If you want something done, do it yourself. Don’t entrust it to emo Gundam Meisters, 14 year old bridge bunnies, or Sumeragi’s melonpan.)
Trans-Am is the new SEED mode? I thought the Meister’s names were bad enough, but this one takes the melonpan. Trans-Am? You kidding me? I’m going to be thinking about KITT every time I see Exia now. Might not be a bad thing considering that the 1980s did have some great many television shows (Knight Rider, A-Team, Airwolf, MacGuyver)… what ever happened to good old manly TV? Now I turn on the TV, I see shows like Cashmere Mafia, Desperate Housewives, Lipstick Jungle, and Extreme Makeover. What the hell is happening to this country?
Wasn’t Michael almost out of GN particles? With Gauron piloting so aggressively, wouldn’t he run out?
Used and discarded like the druggies; another set of mildly interesting but ultimately underdeveloped characters. Probably not a surprise to you, but Sunrise isn’t very good at developing or pacing characters. Why were the Thrones even in this series besides to pwn Saji’s life? They could have had the same effect by having Exia drop a sword on Louise during a fight. It’s like they were introduced just to introduce more mobile suits… it’s almost as if more mobile suits equals more toys to be made based on said mobile suits… mmm…
“Ore no GUNDAM!”
If Setsuna either said “Ore no DRILL!” or followed his line up with “Ore no GUNDAM! GIGA EXIA!” I would have fainted.
Not quite a flying V… flying O?
And, finally, from last time…
Haesslich: One question: If you paid Yoko up with Saiji, who would die first?
Haess, I’m very glad you’re contributing on posts that don’t involve traps, but with Tieira, all bets are off for Gundam 00. But I think if Yoko and Saji kissed, it would have the opposite effect and start bringing everyone back from the dead and thus starting the spiral nemesis.
Xeifa: Well, with a 2nd seaon planned to release later this year… I got my money on seeing a timeskipped Saji being the ace pilot of (insert faction name here), trying to bring an end to the war while piloting (insert Greek word here) Gundam.
Safe bet. I would love to see Saji piloting Leonidas Gundam. Its special attack would great a giant gaping hole that he would toss other mobile suits into.
K.K.: I didn’t think it’d take 5 whole responses before somebody cracked a “14 is the new 17″ line. How is this not on Chris Hansen’s RSS reader yet?
You mean Gundam 00 or Derailed By Darry? The funny thing is that I don’t have a “moe: loli” tag but do have “moe: bullying” and “moe: symmetrical docking“. And it’s been almost half a year since my last moe: symmetrical docking post… this is horrible!
Lord Kamina: Sumeragi is the saddest excuse of a “tactician†Ive ever watching in an anime.
(Four Canadian readers… sadly didn’t have enough for an all-Canadian feature. My theory is that because Canada is so damn cold, they watch more anime. I mean, it was 30F in Toronto today. It was 70F in San Jose.)
teabeans: All I can think about after this episode is that we’re 21 episodes in and I still can’t think of what “00″ is supposed to signify.
It’s a pictograph of Sumeragi’s melonpan?
Andrex: By the by, is anything at all going on with Hallelujah in the near future?
You mean happen plot-wise or gay relationship-wise? I’m hoping for no on both counts as the season only has four episodes left, and there’s already a lot of unanswered questions. There’s also plenty of uncomfortable moments between Lockon and Tieria to go around.
Jounin: I was comparing melonpan size and damn if Felt isn’t catching up fast at the tender age of 14.
Yep… these are my readers.
Well, Graham is upholding the literal words of his promise, not the spirit of his promise. Sigh. Okay, now outside of the bridge bunnies, I don’t like any of the characters in Gundam 00.
Wow Patrick fell out of favor that quickly huh? Well at least Graham has a brain. Just in time too he needs to at least wound a meister quick to keep his coveted ace title. As it stands Ali has 2 kills, and Patrick has one meister wounded for life. Its funny how Ali is the one who avenges Louise, but in turn was responsible for killing Kinue. It be incredibly funny if Saji becomes one of Ali’s minions in the war against Meisters.
A pity that you still use the TV for sitcoms and what not. Just about every guy I know uses the TV for a few things, sports, games, mythbusters, and the history channel for the above 30 crowd. Now with the internet for some stange reason I am seeing an unsettling increase in the number of people playing WoW. Guess goofing around in a virtual world is more fun than TV these days.
Funny how Aeolia’s Tomb had a red carpet but nary a single automated defense turret. He could have at least has a big round bolder roll out from the ceiling, or pit with spikes…
If Aeolia lead from the front he’d break his hip…funny how he had jackboots but never used the to goose step his way to victory.
Gundam is Trans-Am, Bumblebee is Camaro. LET THE PISSING CONTEST BEGIN!
i guess i was the only one pleased to see that our old Union ace isn’t going to be left out of the fight after all. still, would have been more GAR to see him unleash some Flag skills that put all the GN Drive equipped units to shame, or discover Spiral power…
Darry: That age†being… 14?
Yeah, that’s about when girls start getting into one-eyed emo pilo…wait…wasn’t that 12?…
Darry: Don’t entrust it to emo Gundam Meisters, 14 year old bridge bunnies, or Sumeragi’s melonpan.
One does not simply *predict* 14 year old bridge bunnies…or Sumeragi’s melonpan, for that matter…
Darry: Not quite a flying V… flying O?
They don’t like pointed melonpa…err…wait…what?…
Darry: Trans-Am is the new SEED mode?
At least SEED (the expanded form of the acronym, anyway) made some sort of sense…what is this, a new passenger train or something?
What? No love for Graham despite the GN-Drive inserted into his OverFLAG? As it is, it was the only logical move for him to keep competitive, in light of the GN-Xs and the GN-Arms the Gundams are getting. It’s a means to an end to fulfill his vow, that’s all.
I can’t blame Graham for the upgrade.
It would have been more awesome if he just piloted a regular flag, but he needs something to penetrate the Gundam’s armor – and unfortunately there don’t seem to be any giant drills laying around.
What the hell was Nena doing, anyway? Couldn’t she just have stepped on Ali while he was trying to get into Michael’s mobile suit?
What – is a random reception is okay to smash, but not the guy who just killed your brother?
Wait, Sumeragi’s Melonpan is not trustworthy?
Anyway, here is some gift for you guys

Yen, I don’t know if that’s the greatest picture ever, or the scariest.
>>Yen: Image Link
Oh god my eyes!!! The goggles. They do nothing!!!
Yen, how could you unleashed such thing on the humanity?
>>zodmanor: Yen, how could you unleashed such thing on the humanity?
*act like Nena* Sorry, I pushed the wrong button XD
>>My theory is that because Canada is so damn cold, they watch more anime.
It’s true.
>I also don’t understand why Sunrise doesn’t do a Gundam series with lesbian pilots?
Silly Jason, if you wanted mecha with lesbians you’d go to Studio Deen and watch Simoun.
Or if you just want women with your mecha, Sunrise has Xenoglossia…which in my opinion was made of several types of FAIL.
Oh god my eyes!!! The goggles. They do nothing!!!
I just cried out the same thing. Good thing this lecture hall is empty….
Bah, forgot to add. Wasn’t it you Jason that coined the phrase “14 is the new 17”? I’d say Felt is doing a standup job upholding that rule.
“I don’t care if you’re only 14
cause 14 is my lucky number!
Jailbait Jailbait!
Statutory rape!”
I wish I remembered all the lyrics to that song. (the band was actually called “The Child Molesters” and technically the song was called 13 is my lucky number.) The song is ollllllld.
That being said, i’d still rather have Nena.
14 is legal in italy and japan and canada i think.
Stalker Felt is very cute. Now if only she did something about that purple/yellow outfit of hers… All of that clothes shopping that she and Christine do and no weekly post in Derailed about the latest bridge bunny outfits. Even Ms. Wang is failing us by recycling clothes (reuses safari outfit this ep). It used to be such a highlight of the series too.
I gotta agree that Graham has failed me by putting a GN Drive on his Overflag. I don’t see how Corner is going to take over the world by giving the superpowers Gundams unless he sabotages them in some way, then Graham would have gone around owning them all in his ordinary Overflag. Does this mean that Bandai is going to come out with a Graham Custom Flag equipped with GN Drive model?
14 is legal in Ontario! Whee! And we had 1 foot of snow this past weekend in Toronto, sucks eh?
I’m still waiting for my obligatory Gundam masked man… DAMMIT.
And now that Exia has become Destiny (minus glowing shield), I’m waiting for some more crazy emo action with surviving deer in headlights too stupid to squish Gauron sister.
As for Graham’s choice to go with the GN drive I saw it coming from the beginning. I think I had the same reaction as Kyou at the tennis match.
“I knew it all along. (I just didn’t want to admit it.) I knew it all along. (I just didn’t want to admit it.)”
>>My theory is that because Canada is so damn cold, they watch more anime. I mean, it was 30F in Toronto today. It was 70F in San Jose.
I live in Toronto, and I actually watch Aria.
Also, RED = 3 TIMES FASTER
@Epi
during the timeskip Saji will put on a Mask and become the Red Avenger

I never needed traps to comment on a post before. However, that being said, that wouldn’t be a BAD thing – then we’d have our Evil Trinity idiots back for another few episodes of character development before dying, and Saij’s angst would be significantly reduced. And we’d get more Yoko. Everyone wins in this scenario.
Graham DOES need a GN engine to contribute, however – especially in the wake of Exia’s upgrade. Even with superior skills, he won’t be able to beat out Patrick or anyone else if he doesn’t keep his Flag up there with all the modern bells and whistles. It’s like a Full Metal Panic without Gauron piloting something that had a Lambda Driver going up against Sousuke in Arbalest or Leonard going up against Sousuke while piloting a Savage instead of Belial in Continuing On My Own – it’d be a lopsided fight which wouldn’t pose a real threat to the other side.
What was amazing this episode was that a Gundam was not just stolen, it was jacked GTA style. That doesn’t happen often in a Gundam series. You see Gundams stolen back and forth alot, but very little of shoot the pilot, take the gundam.
Yeah, Trans-Am is a horrible name for whatever the mode is. They better have at least some engrish explanation for it, but I wouldn’t keep my fingers crossed.
The flying O did seem to be a fairly effective as opposed to the AEU or Union formation of split up.
Jesus. The sexual tension between Lockon and Tieria is just so thick this episode. To think that I’d first find something like this not in my harem anime, and not even my serious relationship story anime, but in my giant robot anime… Oh shut up and just shoot me already.
Beowulf: Click on Yen’s image link, then find yourself a pistol. That image should break you, if Minami-ke hasn’t managed it yet, or Sumeragi’s magical melonpan. Or Wilhemina’s Bondage Bandage Festival.
Darry: “You mean happen plot-wise or gay relationship-wise? I’m hoping for no on both counts as the season only has four episodes left, and there’s already a lot of unanswered questions. There’s also plenty of uncomfortable moments between Lockon and Tieria to go around.”
Definitely not gay relationship-wise. At first Tieria’s sweaters were enough gayness for the whole episode, and now this new Slash-Lockon plot means that all future Gundams must be pure-hetero in every way to balance it out.
Well… this post came out… bigoted…
I just think it’s so pathetic that all H/Allelujah does anymore is the obligatory uke-sigh and a few words.
Also Dynames looks flat-out ridiculous in the GN Arms. He’s even more of a flying target now than Virtue. And what does a sniper need uber-armor for anyways?
Hmm…love all this talk about melonpans and would love to contribute, but wanted to inquire why the h3ll Setsuna didn’t just finish off Ali while he was in his Trans-Am KITT mode? I guess they needed to save it for the next episode.
Melonpans!!!! That’s why I love anime. :-)
(I also don’t understand why Sunrise doesn’t do a Gundam series with lesbian pilots? It worked so well for Full Metal Panic. If I were scripting a Gundam series, I’d definitely have lesbian pilots.)
But Sunrise HAS produced such a show. It’s just not wearing a Gundam nametag.
Well if it’s specifically lesbian subtext and mecha you’re looking for, IdolM@ster Xenoglossia is the show you’re looking for. (I’d take Imber over Exia anyday. We have common interests, specifically, Haruka’s melonpan.)
If on the other hand, you’re just looking for ridiculous-over-the-top battles with overpowered weapons, plots that defy logic and reason, and blatant yuri-bating, there’s always My-Hime/Otome.
Hmm… now that I think of it, Lockon kind of looks like Harlock now.
He just needs a scar.
I love iDOLM@STER Xenoglossia. It’s really average but I really enjoyed it.
Despite Gundam 00 getting really good at this point, why must the scriptwriters abandon all sense of common sense??? Nena didn’t step on Ali when she had the chance, Veda not having turrets and stuff, etc.
Oh well, at least Nena’s still alive, hopefully creating more of a harem for Setsuna and bringing in some catfights later on.
Turrents wouldn’t have mattered in this case. Ribbons would have had all the authorizations to shut them off.
This wasn’t an outside attack, it was internal betrayal.
“Wasn’t Michael almost out of GN particles? With Gauron piloting so aggressively, wouldn’t he run out?”
Wasn’t Graham coughing up blood from too many Gs? With Trans-Am whizzing Setsuna so fast, wouldn’t he pass out?
Plus, how can Setsuna even focus on a target smaller than Los Angeles when his world is now the same as that of someone who ate a magic mushroom? Last time I checked, “Soran Ibrahim” was not an alias of Chuck Norris, but APPARENTLY, Sunrise has no qualms with applying the formula:
“If you can see Setsuna, Setsuna can see you. If you can’t see Setsuna, you may only have seconds to live.”
Thank god for random google searching, this blog is everything I’ve always been looking for in an anime blog. Finally forced to post thanks to Yen nearly breaking me with his evil image.
Anyway, did no one think it interesting that Ali is likely working for Corner or did everyone just figure it out weeks ago? It would explain his miraculous escape, he’s got to come back later on to lead Corners evil army.
>>14 is legal in italy and japan and canada i think.
So 14 is legal in space too? Uchuu banzai!
>> So 14 is legal in space too? Uchuu banzai!
Question: What’s illegal in space? Does space have a set of laws? Is it something Jason needs to explore in his next post?
And oh by the way: why is it that there is more sexual tension between Tieria and Lockon than Marina and Setsuna? Damn it Sunrise, give me at least one normal relationship in this series to cheer for!
Are we sure Tieria isn’t a reverse trap?
@Lana
Patrick and Katie are the only functional “couple” left…so go cheer for Patrick he needs the help.
“Plus, how can Setsuna even focus on a target smaller than Los Angeles when his world is now the same as that of someone who ate a magic mushroom? Last time I checked, “Soran Ibrahim†was not an alias of Chuck Norris, but APPARENTLY, Sunrise has no qualms with applying the formula:”
Most obviously, he has acquired the Sharingan Eye as well.. xD
