Code Geass is now officially Death Note with mecha and bunny girls.
Watching this episode of Code Geass, it almost seems like an episode of Death Note with Light-o and L jabbing at each other. Lulu does a respectable job as Light-o by using everyone around him to his best benefit while making ample use of his special ability. Britannia and Rolo take up the slack for L as they try to figure out if Lulu has regained his memories or not as Lulu leads them on, very much like the giant portion of Death Note focused L trying to figure out if Light-o is indeed Kira. Shirley even plays the pawn in the Misa role. I was thinking, “Hey, Death Note with mecha and bunny girls isn’t a bad direction to go” and was feeling pretty good about R2 until Suzaku and Lancelot pwned half of Europe. Ugh. Somethings just never change.
OH GEASS NO
I forgot to ask this eariler, but why is Lulu riding around on a white horse in the OP? He could have been riding around on a white unicorn, and it wouldn’t make less sense.
I was thinking about it a bit more, and if Lulu really did Nunnally a locket for her birthday and now Rolo has it, does it mean that Rolo is really Nunnally? If Dilandeau, Mako-cakes, and Touma can pull it off, why can’t Nunnally? The only disconnect would be that Nunnally is crippled whereas Rolo isn’t, but I’m sure technology could fix that. After all, in Nunnally’s story, she pilots a frickin’ knightmare frame superior to both Lancelot and Guren Nishiki.
(And if Lulu did give Rolo a locket for his birthday, it would be horrendously gay. But not as much as Rolo cherishing it like Shinn cherishes his sister’s cell phone.)
Anyone else thinking Gundam 00 when Lancelot made its R2 debut? One mobile suit that owns like 50? Oh well, at least Suzaku isn’t shooting weapons out of people’s hands like Kira Yamato. Yet.
I’m all for more Kallen shower scenes and more Kallen wardrobe malfunction scenes. Symmetrically, episode 3 of the first season was the episode that featured the nakkid Kallen shower scene. I’m beginning to dislike this 5 o’clock time slot.
Why does Kallen have a set of Lulu’s school clothes nearby while she’s showering? And is it too late to start a “Which Code Geass character will start dry humping furniture first in R2?” pool yet?
I think Kallen was the right choice for the bunny suit, though I like C.C.’s new outfit a lot. Mini-skirt and thigh highs > her old insane asylum wardrobe.
The way Millay was barking out orders and understood the limitations of her minions… hell, she would be a better tactician than Lulu and Sumeragi.
Is it just me, or did Shirley’s bust size shrink?
Still, it seems like the entire student body of Ashford was wiped and reprogrammed to slide Rolo into Nunnally’s spot. It would have taken a tremendous effort to do all this… and for what? To try to catch C.C.? If the emperor got his geass from someone other than C.C., why does he need to bother with C.C.? Wouldn’t it be better to just kill Lulu, stop any chance of Zero coming back, and then hope C.C. spends the rest of her life sulking as a Pizza Hut delivery girl?
(And I think this is the fourth time I’ve heard “I’m all sticky!” while watching anime in the past 48 hours.)
Shirley’s “date” with Lulu was cute, but I liked how she panicked at pointed at the trolley where she lost her memories… I guess she got parts of them back since after she lost them, she didn’t know who Lulu was… and now she’s back into puppy love mode thanks to (another) geass. The funny part is that I think Shirley has no chance with Lulu. He just uses her like he does with everyone else, and I think his heart is still with Suzaku. As the current poll indicates, Shirley is barely beating out Rolo as Lulu’s best match and badly losing to Cheese-kun and Orange-kun.
The explosions… the turn by the Chinese… I don’t get it. Typical drama manufacture. Oh wait, duh! Sunrise. I get it.
I found the next episode preview disturbing. Highly disturbing.
Yes, first comment…
The last picture didn’t look right ever LoL.
I have a prediction in about three or four episodes, that C.C and Kallen will have a little rivalry going on. Something like ” Lulu is mine, bitch”. Can’t wait for the that cat fight. :D
speaking about Kallen’s bunny suit…
I am only one who want to Geass the hell out since the last episode. :P
At times I think Shirley is incredibly cute and others I want to stab her in the eye with a mechanical pencil. Does anybody else feel the same?
So when does the CC and Kallen rivalry turn into lesbian sex? I also want to see Millay back in that bunny suit she had on during the ending theme sequences last season.
“The way Millay was barking out orders and understood the limitations of her minions… hell, she would be a better tactician than Lulu and Sumeragi.”
I agree with you
The part with Shirley and trolley was not her flashback, but Lulu’s.
She panicked because she was staring at the kissing couple becoming all horny when Lulu’s came back asking what she was looking at. She simply pointed at something higher, which happened to be the trolley. That in turn made Lulu remember the incident.
Shirley knows nothing.
On another note, Viletta needs to get nekkid again.
Millay has always been the most awesome woman in the series. I know i’m in the minority thinking this, but i’d say she knows way more than she’s letting on, and she’s more fun than the rest of the cast combined. She needs more screentime.
Kallen has Lulu’s jacket because he gave it to her to cover up her bunny-ness in the previous episode.
As far as the Chinese “betrayal” goes… I’m getting the feeling this is part of Lelouch’s plan.
Like… the Chinese suddenly pretend like they’ve turned against the Black Knights, turns them over… and then pwn! Guess what? IT’S A TRAP!
and here i was worried jason was going to blog junjo romantica.
with code geass, i think we have all the FABULOUS we need. Now give me a second as i burn my eyes with acid courtesy of the last picture.
Rolo might still be Lelouch’s brother, perhaps just one he never knew about previously-seeing the ending with Britannians having white wings and the Black Knights with black wings, Rolo had one of each, so he’s either a spy or has conflicted loyalties (perhaps likes Lelouch but hates/sent to kill Zero).
And it was probably just the student council who had their memories rewritten, as we didn’t see Nunnaly outside of their company in season 1.

palxenon dont post spoilers for later eps ;)
@@, oh shit, Suzaku is kissing a fish in paxkenon’s spoiler pic!
Well, SUNRISE has done that before: Celena into Dilandau and back again in Escaflowne. Reverse trap isn’t as effective as Mako-chan in breaking the erojiji viewer demographic though.
I kind of thought it would be more fun if Rolo were really Lelouch’s brother… and even Nunally’s twin brother, seperated at birth by the emperor and now sent back. So it actually WAS his birthday.
Also I thought everyone thought Code Geass was Death Note with mecha after R1 first season?
Finally, regarding Suzaku’s p0wnage, just remember that Lulu already had the Hadron cannon last season and owned the entire Britiannian army with his mecha.
I also like how Lancelot stood there and waited for the European Frames to come to it to be sliced up. It didn’t move for 15 seconds and the grunts couldn’t even land a bullet on it. Why do grunts in anime shoot like they’re all blind-folded?
So, on the one hand Jason finds Lulu giving Rolo a locket to be horrendously gay, but seems to find that last scene with the blanket chasing to be less so? :D
I think the best part of the episode was watching Lulu go through the photo album, and then we got a lovely shot of Lulu and Millay staring into one another’s eyes while Rivalz tried to use a broom to interrupt them, forcing SatokoRolo to keep him from interrupting the pair. You’d almost think he was paying attention to C.C. or Kallen’s cleavage… for whose covering-up he donated his jacket, which explains why Kallen had it in the shower. It’s the ‘oh, Lulu gave me clothing off his body, I must keep it as a souvenir’ jacket.
I think I’m the only person who was surprised by the fact Lu was wearing pink and carrying a purse. I guess I was the only person left who still thought it was possible for Lu to be straight.
@Jounin: see The Principle of Evil Marksmanship http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stormtrooper_effect
What I find interesting is that Lelouch seems to be portrayed in a more… humane angle than before, where he likened people to pawns, and now he seems to genuinely care about the Student Council members, with him not wanting to involve Shirley and getting pissed that the Emperor toyed with their memories. Whereas Suzaku was pretty much made an asshole with his selling out of Lelouch (ep2). I mean, despite how amoral Lelouch was, he never really did betray Suzaku, saving his ass on at least two occasions and trying on two occasions to try to get him on zero’s (his) side
Sadlis: Being fucked by the Emperor the way you fucked with everyone else probably has something to do with his change in attitude. Now he’s also a victim of a Geass, which probably gives him a bit more sympathy for Millay and the others, especially since Rivalz and company did dote on the now-vanished Nunnaly a bit too. Between that and being sold out by the douche Suzaku, he probably is feeling a LITTLE more guilty about doing similar things to others, unless they’re obviously against him (like Viletta).
Besides which, it’s harder to cheer for the anti-villain unless he’s a more sympathetic character, as this version of Lelouche is.
Ah, last comment waiting for moderation due to bad words.
Anyone else here think that, after seeing C.C. in a Zero outfit, followed by that skirt-and-thigh-high set, that they’d be willing and wanting to shout “Yes, m’lord!’ whenever she entered a room?
The Chinese haven’t turned — just that one guy. Rolo Geassed him at the end of Ep. 2, I bet. Look at the last scene again.
“I was thinking about it a bit more, and if Lulu really did Nunnally a locket for her birthday and now Rolo has it, does it mean that Rolo is really Nunnally?”
Recall that a year has passed between R1 and R2. Unless I’m watching a crappy translation Lulu said he gave Mr Choco the pendant on his b-day which was really his sister’s b-day. There wasn’t anything about giving it to Nunully.
Rolo’s geass don’t work that way…
>> I think I’m the only person who was surprised by the fact Lu was wearing pink and carrying a purse. I guess I was the only person left who still thought it was possible for Lu to be straight.
Lulu basically has three girls fawning over him, and he ignores them all. I feel more sympathy for Kallen as she’s pretty much admitted her feelings for him, and he’s only using them for his own end. Lulu is actually protective of Shirley, and he buys all the stuffed crust pizza C.C. could ever want.

Hey, at least you didn’t write about home equity loans, male enlargement, or cheap Adobe software.
>> I also like how Lancelot stood there and waited for the European Frames to come to it to be sliced up. It didn’t move for 15 seconds and the grunts couldn’t even land a bullet on it. Why do grunts in anime shoot like they’re all blind-folded?
Reminds me so much of Ah-naud in Commando. The final assault when he’s out in the open mowing people down without getting shot himself must be queued up 24/7 at Sunrise HQ.
my heart says that Kallen is the the best, but my gut says
incest is best!Nunally. all hail britania!>> “that they’d be willing and wanting to shout “Yes, m’lord!’ whenever she entered a room?”
YES, MY LORD! CC doesn’t need any geass to have others do her bidding… :)
So, this episode explains what Rolo’s geass ability is. I had theorized it is some kind of ability to alter other people’s perception of time, and not needing an eye contact… But this was jsut a theory by the end of episode 2, because he stepped out of the knightmare to confront the guards, and he didn’t need to if his power was as I had theorized. Alas, it does work that way, and the last scene of eps 2 was meaningless, it’s only intent to show us that he has geass power.
As for Nunnaly, even considering “we can rebuild her, we have the technology” I don’t think she’s Rolo. Even though logical reasoning can always be subverted in anime (see Hecate-Konoe and ‘lol its magic’ in Shana II) one year is hardly enough time to learn leet piloting skills Rolo exhibits, the hair is different color, and their facial features are somewhat different.
>> “Anyone else thinking Gundam 00 when Lancelot made its R2 debut?”
More or less, tempered by the fact that CG went this way during previous season already.
The turn by the Chinese, don’t know what to make of that… while ti might be part of some plot I don’t think they’d risk their soldiers that way in “haha only kidding” attack on Zero’s soldiers. Then again CG is not a show that expects you to think, just to enjoy the ride and drive around those plotholes dotting the road.
If Suzaku starts taking Kira Yamato lessons of disabling enemy frames instead of destroying them it would be very, very wrong. He turned in his best friend for possible death for a selfish reason and spared those he doesn’t even know would just make me dislike him even more.
My first impression of Code Geass back in R1 after 2 episodes was already of a Death Note + Gundam and now we’re getting bunnies in R2 XD
And Rollo is one very confused boy with a sense of logic even more twisted than his “brother”…
Rolo’s Geass is such a ZA WARUDO rip-off, if his mecha will ever throw a knife, then this series should be named “Code Gayass: Rolo’s Bizzare Adventure”.
Oh GEASS NO! Damn it, when Jun Furukawa is o na show as teh main lead, you know that series will be or have yaoi hints on it.
Spice and Wolf emitted no such aura. Lawrence least he leered a bit at Horo, and teased her as if he was interested. So we know Jun Fujiyama doesn’t have to do yaoi-type characters. It’s just CLAMP that enjoys yaoi, which is why you so often see Doumeki and Watanuki holding hands…
As for Rollo, I suspect that if Zero ever makes a ‘Together, we will rule the Empire as Onisan and Ototo-san” speech, Rolo’ll be all over it the way Luke Skywalker never was. Or even a family speech would do it: “Listen, you join me and you’ll not only have a big brother but a sister to take care of, if we can get her free of our bastard father’s custody.”
It seems silly that Rolo’s geass would continue to be effective after the first few times. One would imagine that the knightmare frames have some sort of black box that would reveal how his geass works. Then, all they need is a firmware update to put some anti-Rolo AI and he’s a goner. I doubt he’s a pilot on the level of Suzaku or Kallen.
I dunnoe, he showed some pretty slick moves in his Knightmare frame in ep 2 when taking down grunts. Interesting though. if Rolo’s geass only alter’s people’s perception of time, then like you said, i think an AI-driven frame (mobile doll?) can fight with him normally, though if you consider his geass in addition to what happened in ep2, it would be kinda weird. If he stopped Kallen and Urabe, then surely their frames would continue charging forward and crashing into a wall rather than stopping nicely in front of where he was… hmm
The Dawn comes and goes of it’s own will
