I went to see The Two Towers today, and it was not as crazy as my experience to see The Clone Wars. Note how they’re both the middle film in a trilogy…

Anyway… this time, I chose the theater, and I picked one that made you wait indoors. I’m sensible that way. I bought tickets for everyone in the morning on my way to rent Splinter Cell so we got to the theater around 7 for a 9:15 show. We were the third group in line, and people were filing in up until they let us in around 8:45. I was disappointed that I didn’t see anyone dress up… another of my friends who went to see it in a theater that made you wait outside reported a Legolas sighting.

The movie was fantastic. Three hours that grips you and doesn’t let go. If you’ve read the book, you know what goes on… but the way the that the battle of Helmhold is done is spectacular. The final charge led by the King and Strider as well as a few others highlighted how wonderful CG can be. Legolas fans can rejoice in more l33t archery. The Fellowship of the Rings extended DVD has even more since in each scene where he shoots one arrow, he does it twice for the DVD.

My only problem with the movie is the CG work on Golem. You see him a lot, and sometimes the CG looks good and sometimes looks bad, but his eyes never approach the level of Dr. Aki’s eyes from Final Fantasy. It’s a shame because you get to see Golem’s ugly eyes so much during the movie. But this is a very minor point.
