ああっ女神さまっ 5

K1 wanted to spend some special time with the ladies, so he dressed up in his Hugh Hefner robes, put on some fancy cologne, dialed the iPod to “Barry White,” and got the goddesses drunk. Very drunk. Then he got his groove on… oh, baby!

Errr. Let’s try this again.

K1 wanted to get slightly closer to Belldandy, so he dresses up in a suit rejected by the Salvation Army, didn’t even shower, plays muzac on cassette, and he makes Belldandy cook for him. K1, man, I don’t think being short is why you’re not getting the ladies. In fact, I think that’s the least of your worries.

For some reason, the last episode on the first DVD was very painful to watch. I’m not sure if it’s because of K1’s horrible, horrible suit or because the Bell/K1 relationship has been tormenting the fans for seventeen years now. It’s kinda both sad and comforting to know that episode five Bell and K1 aren’t that different from volume 31 Bell and K1. Then again, approaching a girl for the first time, like what K1 is doing here, can be a pretty anxious, awkward, and nerve-wrecking experience.

Media Blasters has done a good job with the DVD, and the boxset looks fantastic. It’s a two piece box that’s a bit higher quality than most other boxsets (*cough* ADV *cough*) with a plastic slip-on that goes over the box. It does take a while to extract or return a DVD, but it does look great chillin’ next to my copy of Biodome and that Homeboys from Outer Space season one boxset. The first run ああっ女神さまっ boxset also includes an official Kodansha cell phone strap; cute, but not as awesome as the one they gave away during the movie premiere.

The encoding quality is better than Pioneer’s original release of the movie, and I’m impressed that they kept the visuals looking great. Sound quality is average, and yet again, the dub cast changed. Why even bother dubbing as this series probably will never catch on with the mainstream or reach Cartoon Network? The extras include a brief interview with Inoue Kikuko and Yoko Ishida, but they fast-forward a lot and cut out the part where Ishida sings. Seriously, why even bother including this clip if they are just going to show a few snippets?

Finally, before I start on the second DVD, remember how I pondered how watching Jigoku Shoujo affected my watching of ああっ女神さまっ 1? Well, I finally realized during this episode that Sayoko is voiced by Mamiko Noto– who is also the seiyuu for Ms. Enma Ai.
