the good, bad, and ugly for july

Random stuff I couldn’t properly organize into a cohesive post.

The Good

1. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Yes, only one episode will air in July, but I’d rather watch it than anything else that month (especially when I’m getting stung to death at Mosquito Falls).

2. Keroro Gunso. If what wikipedia reports is true, Keroro Gunso will end the same week as Haruhi Suzumiya. Sad, sad week for anime.

3. Tonagura. Lecherous guy with hawt girls.

4. Utawarerumono. Now this, my friends, is how to do an h-game turned non-h-anime conversion. Are you listening, Type Moon?

5. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Anxiously awaiting “Mion Moe Mode” arc.

The Bad

ああっ女神さまっ ~それぞれの翼~ production budget. Could definitely use some more moolah!

How certain Strawberry Panic characters never followed through. Dammit!

School Rumble‘s epic 132-131 basketball game. Come on… a bunch of 5 feet Japanese girls scoring over 250 combined points in a high school basketball game? With no subs? And with some epic 100 point comeback in the last quarter? With Tenma involved in ways other than “cheering from the bleachers”? (Many high school leagues use 8 minute quarters too.) I want my anime at least in the semi-realm of believability.

The odds that they’ll show To Heart 2 for this new UC Irvine class on anime and manga. Seriously, if someone is taking the class, I’d like to hear your opinion about it.

Karin… from the looks of things, I’m glad I bailed on the series before the end.

The lack of fansubbing for Saiunkoko Monogatari.

The oversubbing of Ergo Proxy.

The Ugly

Black Lagoon ended at 12. Planet of the Beast King ended at 11. Mushishi wrapped up as well. Gah. With Haruhi and Keroro ending soon as well, what does this leave me to watch? I only have Utawarerumono, Higurashi, and Inukami (yes, Inukami) on my plate now. Oh, well, at least it leaves me time for my summer reading list… either that or I’ll end up watching stuff like Binbou Shimai Monogatari… not that I’m expecting it to be bad, just devoid of Mikuru-class fanservice.

    With Tenma outrunning the 86 from Initial D, Yakumo reading the minds of evident ecchi, and Harima commmunicating with dumb animals, you actually expected reality? lolol

  2. What wikipedia reports about Gunso is false.

  3. Hope Tonagura anime is as funny as the first 2 books.

  4. >>> 4. Utawarerumono. Now this, my friends, is how to do an h-game turned non-h-anime conversion. Are you listening, Type Moon?

    To which my wife and I will sing 2nd half of last chorus of Handel’s Messiah.

  5. Dude, Jason, if you’re watching stuff like Inukami, why not watch Soul Link and Joshikousei, too?

  6. just watch blood plus then :P

  7. >4. Utawarerumono. Now this, my friends, is how to do an h-game turned non-h-anime conversion. Are you listening, Type Moon?

  8. Lies! Lies! According to the Doomsday Count Down machines, Keroro Gunso should have another 98 episodes!

  9. How certain SP characters never followed through?

    *scratch head*

    You lost me.

  10. Shizuma sure failed her follow through in episode 12.

  11. Her?

    Shizuma is a MAN.

  12. we will have to see how Yaya does in 14 since in the end of Ep13 she was channeling Chikane :D

    Well she score or get throw out?

  13. You could always go blog old school anime. Otherwise you could lampoon bad series or Kanon come out early and you can release the dogs of war. In the end you could watch Ouran.

    Oh there was a search and rescue case today some where I can’t go into details, but if the rumors are true you may want to check the local bay area news.

  14. just out of curiosity, how many of you guys live int he bay area? and how many of you guys attend the foot anime club(san leandro/castro valley area) every month?

  15. – Black Lagoon ended at 12

    Black Lagoon ended at 12?!?!?!? that can’t be right…>_

  16. Utawarerumono is turning out to be a real treat for me. I wouldn’t have even guessed it was originally an H-game since there are so many guys in it.

  17. Let’s just say it doesn’t act like a proper H-game, having only 7 H-scenes and “hidden” thoroughly in the second triad.

    A.k.a. No H in 1st and 3rd parts.

    (Funny how masturbation wasn’t pixelated but sex was.)

  18. sperm song

  19. Nooooooooooooo
    Keroro Gunsou anime CAN’T end!
    Nooooooooo

  20. Sunrise just posted Keroro Gunso episode descriptions up to #120 (it only does it a month in advance, at the end of the previous month). Don’t believe the (Wikipedia) hype. And the countdown machine counts days in the Keroro universe, not episodes in our time.

  21. hey, ive heard from a guy in the animesuki forum that studio DEEN totally screwed the ending scene in higurashi tatarigoroshi-hen 5 and that the mangascene was 10 times better. now i dunt really look forward to it….

  22. Is Karin that awful to watch? I was planning to watch it after Canvas 2 left a bitter taste in my mouth…

  23. >> Is Karin that awful to watch? I was planning to watch it after Canvas 2 left a bitter taste in my mouth…

    I have heard a lot of bad things about it.

  24. “Is Karin that awful to watch? I was planning to watch it after Canvas 2 left a bitter taste in my mouth…”
    ~~~~ ~~~~
    That depends on your tolerance for the corniness. ;) Karin excelled when it got serious, but the writers never could seem to make up their minds on whether they wanted a comedy, or a drama series.
    Garten wrote up good summaries for the entire series, and if you do not mind being spoiled a bit, you can read the summaries for the first few episodes and judge for yourself.
    I myself enjoyed Karin.
  25. Thanks for the link, Skane. From the summaries, it looks fairly entertaining. At least the animation and production quality looks better than Tsukoyomi -Moon Phase-
  26. Though low budget…Bell is still my fav!^^
    Haruhi is good! No doubt I laughed like crazy when looking at the parodies(just 3 made me laugh though…at youtube.)the solo guy…the conan…the gundam.
  27. Actually, the ending for Karin was rather good, imo. one of the more conclusive endings out there instead of those rubbishy open rubbish rubbish things
  28. Hmm… if you haven’t got much to watch, you should re-try Simoun. I know your initial impression of it was crap but you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, as the saying goes. After the first couple of episodes the kissing has been toned down quite a bit and some of the more interesting characters are brought in. So far, there’s been a lot more focus on the effects of the war than actual Simoun battles and the new subbers are better than Doremi. Neviriru angsts quite a bit over her previous partner’s death (the kiss/es between the two were really bad, I agree) but apparently the angst stops soon…
    I still need to watch Black Lagoon, Mushishi and get started on Kerero. ^^
    I’ll start watching TsuyoKiss ~ CoolxSweet and Zero no Tsukaima this season and I hope there are a few good others.
    I can’t wait for Zero no Tsukaima to get subbed! Apparently watching it is like watching Shakugan no Shana (same production company and the seiyuus for the two main characters, Louise and Saito, are the same ones that did Shana and Yujie, plus she tells Saito to uresai. ^^ I have to download the raw…). More info at this blog: http://randomc.animeblogger.net/?p=939&cp=all
    …Episode one was subbed yesterday and I hadn’t noticed. T_T well shows me I need to start checking TokyoTosho.com rather tham animesuki..
    Cool, I just looked around and there’s first-impression blogs for eight of the new season shows at BasuGasuBakuHatsu blog. Starting with Mamotte! Lollipop (which looks pretty bad, IMO)here: http://www.basugasubakuhatsu.c.....s-preview/
    I’m not going to say anymore since I can’t think of anything. ;p
