Animesuki denizen Sushi-Y reports that both Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Zero no Tsukaima are getting more episodes. Both are tentatively scheduled for next Fall.

Oh, how I pray this is true! It would great if it’s true!!!
I’ll wait for an announcement from KyoAni; my poor heart won’t be able to stand another dissapointment…
And I hope we get some cheap romance novel action in ZnT2. :P
I’m not too excited about Zero no Tsukaima 2… It’d be wonderful if Haruhi 2 is a 26 ep+ random comedy much like Fumouffuu (it’s not hard, just start each ep with Haruhi bursting in “Good news everyone! I just signed us up for (*insert name of event*), now start practicing or heads will roll!”)… but I’d take anything if it comes to more of the whacky antics of the SOS Dan.
My prayers have been answered more good news in addition to a long awaited seperation, no more snowflakes and more SHnY. Behold the power of Haruhi-sama!
I have mixed feelings about more ZnT though…hopefully there will be more Siesta and Jessica next time around.
We give praise to Haruhi-sama and the SOS-dan. We have a glorious struggle of a wait ahead of us. Honor and Blood for Her Yellow Ribbon.
A poster over at bridgebunnies.com reported the same news about Melancholy was posted at Moon Phase. It was originally planned for 2008, but they’ve moved it up to 2007. He does not confirm it’s KyoAni…but it better be. No lesser studio is acceptable. Heads will roll!

Sweet! Although I’m afraid ZnT Season 2 will be the same crap we got this summer, I’m still definitely going to watch it. And there’s no doubt that I’ll have more Haruhigasms, woot!

Though I’m surprised ZnT got a new season, I don’t really care… the novels are so much better.

Well, we knew it was coming, just how soon was the question.
That’s like a year away :S Can’t we get a summer release? I don’t mind if it’s only 13 eps again…
This is a very bad news, because milking always is. But we knew that it would be tempting, especially in the world where it’s getting harder and harder to come up with new ideas. I sincerely hope that both extensions come out as tremendous flops and thus teach studios a lesson.
Looking back, I think that the only series which had an sequel better than the original was Crest of the Stars. It may be just the exception which confirms the rule.
It is true that I do not have to buy these new releases and just treasure the originals, but even then there’s a significan opportunity cost, which eventually is passwed down to us, the fans. If studios weren’t busy cranking sequels, they would be doing something else, and who knows… maybe even something with an egaging story and compelling characters.
Well, if it is true (and we all hope it is), there’s really only two important questions remaining.
1) Who will animate it?
Unless Kadokawa is stupid, and they haven’t shown any evidence of that so far, “Kyon”Ani will do it. They were wildly successful the first time around, and have only done well since, so this is really a no-brainer. Although I am curious how one of the less-reliable studios would screw it up. Ryoko returning from the dead wearing half an opera mask and piloting a new Gun***? A Kyon x Itsuki subplot with a dramatic rise in the amount on crappy, unnecessarily CGI animation after the first five episodes? The trainwreck appeal would be off the charts.
2) What would it cover?
A wile back I made a comment somewhere–might have been here–about what SHnS2 should cover, in which I came to the conclusion that if you take the remainder of the books and animate them, you’d end up pretty close to 26 episodes. Whatever they end up doing, Book 4 is an absolute necessity, as is Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, if they want the unspoiled audience to have any chance of making sense of Book 4. That would take care of 6-7 episodes right there, easy. Unless they know the author has more books planned in the very near future (and Kadokawa would certainly know), I’d go ahead and animate the rest of the books as well. Besides, you can always OVA anything else that they decide needs to be animated.
One problem is that if they animate everything else, they’d likely need to remain with the episode shuffling structure they had in S1. I had no problem with it, but apparently I was in the minority…

You either have very specific tastes, or have not watched much shows, but anyways, it is far more than just one. :P Off the top of my head, I can immediately think of FMP:TSR and Slayers.

It’s not really milking given that the story is yet to be finished.
I’ll be happy if both of them came out. Both series haven’t really gotten to show off the real story and there is plenty of material for good episodes.
Other characters in the animes are also needing the new air time. Tsuruya being one of them, knowing that she plays a vital role in the winter chapter and the mysterious elf person in ZnT. (forgive for forgetting her name) Also, Louise’s sister still needs to be introduced. Another must see would be the younger Haruhi.
Heads will spin if there aren’t new seasons.

Kyoto is milking a series ~uguu but it’s not Haruhi Suzumiya ~auuu.

I am delighted at the wonderful news that The Familiar of Zero will get a new season! I am not sure why some people’s comments tend to show so little respect for the anime, since I loved most aspects of it! Maybe it has everything to do with me not having read any of the light-novels, since watching the story or characters changed in any way could make it awkward to accept it for most people. Is that what happened or didn’t you like the novels too? Just curious..
Anyways GREAT news for the new season, now only to be patient till Fall! :}
yay “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” gets another seriers, I wonder if they will give it more of a storyline instead of random episodes. Although that what makes it so good.

I love this! I think both of them were too short, there wasn’t any real ending and Haruhi Suzumiya was pretty hard to understand. MORE OF THEM BOTH!!!!!!!!!

This is wonderful, since after i finished Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya for a couple of months ago, i’ve always hoped for a new season. And since i found, saw through, loved and finished Zero no Tsukaima today, its finding a chest with gold, next to another chest with gold for me! (I’m not gonna kill any birds!)
Needless to say, I’m totally looking forward to it!
So The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2, will be comming out in september or august of 2007? If im incorrect about when it’ll be released please correct me. Second Season of Haruhi Suzumiya SHOULD NOT BE LICENSED. The 1st season is licensed that’s why I thought that the 2nd season will be licensed.

I have just gone and done some quick research on the second season and this is what i found. im not sure if this is true, but dont get your hopes up to high. I have been seriously let down. Haruhi is a GOD. I really hope like every one else that there will be a second season, this is my favorite anime yet!
Are you happy now? Finally we have more details about the second season the Haruhi franchise. I think it’s pretty damn clever all the tricks they’re pulling. Haruhi “being†the director? The site disappearing and replaced with a reference to the “final†episode? All around, pretty neat. I am just hoping that the season will be more than 14 episodes! We want a full length one dammit!
