Anytime I can write a post about an anime featuring a creepy guy in a suit who has a loli meido following him around like Potemayo, I gotta do it. I think.
I’ll be straightforward: Doujin Work isn’t what I expected. Most anime about making doujinshis just aren’t very funny (see Party, Comic), and most of them inexplicably feature hawt nubile females trying to crack the doujinshi industry, which is pretty much since I imagine that industry to be as much of a sausage fest as electrical engineering. There’s suspend realism for a “girl who plays with KFC statue in a junkyard” and then there’s suspend realism for “hawt nubile females drawing rape doujinshi.” I can suspend reality for one, but I have trouble with the other. The thing is… Doujin Work is enjoyable. The jokes work. The cast works. And the 12 minute long episodes are long enough… it’s obvious that there’s not much to this show, but they sure don’t bog it down.
There’s not a lot of meat to this series, but it’s an entertaining and relatively brainless show. There’s a lot that they can do to make it better, for instance, pull a Kyoto and start referring to other series and shows. I think doujinshi-based anime lose street cred if they don’t reference or at least parody actual shows and series.
Characters
Najima’s the main character. There’s not to her except that after seeing the money possible in the doujinshi industry, her need for greed takes over any sense of previously held morals. Rape? Boy’s love? Tentacles? Bring it. She’s a fairly dynamic character, and I think her ceiling is a poor man’s Miki. Hopefully she’ll be able to carry the series past the original premise and revolutionize doujinshi anime much like MKM with ramen anime. Voiced by Masumi Asano in her Mariya voice.
(That’s probably too much hype. Doujin Work is probably more like Yi Jianlian;there’s some tantalizing talent there, but seven feet Chinese guys rarely save franchises.)
Casually drops bombs like, “I draw rape doujinshi” and “My circle is named ‘pantsu kakumei’.” What’s not to like? Best case is that she’s a poor man’s Yuki Nagato.
Athrun’s mobile suit… uh… final boss for Guilty Gear… ? No, master doujinshi artist who has a blonde loli following him everywhere. Oh, Namiya’s childhood friend. Lucky dude or luckiest dude?
(Guy looks like he’s thirty, and Namiya looks like she could join the Lucky Star cast. Talk about time slip…)
No matter how crappy a series might be, you can rest assured that if it has meido in it, AoMM will probably be watching.

Hummm…. It’s Najimi by the way, not Najima. I’m guessing you missed the whole pun with her name. Osana Najimi. Osananajimi = childhood friend. Like, how awesome is it to name a character after a moe point?
And just wait till episode 2… Tsuyuri is probably my favourite character in this series. You’ll see.
Yeah this series was everything I had hoped for in the synopsis. Good stuff
The Sora/Justice
tagteamcombo is the best thing since Nyoro~n and Mikuru. Well maybe not Mikuru. She was never as great as Nyoro~n.I doubt I’ll watch once it’s part two Live Action time.
I enjoyed the part where everyone on the train eavesdropped on the fake-erotic conversation about a night filled with love. Except that it was really a night filled with non-consensual bloomer revolution or something.

doujin circles actually do have a surprising amount of females, at least more than say… EE or CS
prob a East vs West thing, since most chicks in states would rather be porn stars than doujin artists

But no, seriously, Gogi Power Hiroyuki is awesome.
What I liked about this was Najima’s acting offended by Tsuyuri’s offer on the train, but meeting up with her the next day to do “whatever” in order to get the $200.
Remember Najimi, anything worth doing is worth doing for money.
I’m having a vision… I see the future, about ten years from now… I see Sora, as a high school student, surrounded by friends… I see her reading H-doujin and dragging her hawt twin miko buddies to Comiket… I see her splitting her computer time between eroge and WoW… I see her in a bedroom surrounded by half the inventory of the nearest Animate… I see her bringing her friends home to meet her “father”… Something is familiar about this vision…

Just so you know. The show is actually a full 24 minutes long. So far the sub groups havn’t subbed the 2nd half of the episode which is in fact live action with 2 of the Seiyuu from the series talking about random shit having to do with the series and doujinshi.

Well, seiyuus speaking crap in real-life Japanese may be hard to translate, especially if they are female and get hysterical, the Japanese they speak tend to be incomprehensible (at least to non-native speakers). Anyway I just watched the first ep. Not bad, I’ll watch this. And those dancing bloomers in the ending? Very wrong on so many levels… LOL
Lol, even the Japanese sub the Japanese girls’ talking for their TV in places… Though I mostly get what they’re saying anyway.
Next episode Sora’s in a Cop outfit instead. Sorry Jase, looks like the Meido thing was just cosplay.
