gundam 00 16

Sumeragi fanservice intervenes Gundam 00!

“If you could do that, why did you wait so long? What the fuck are you planning, Celestial Being?”

(Warning: mostly recap episode. Even if this episode ain’t that new, at least this post is new… kinda.)

image

Well, the Superman Conundrum that I wrote about last episode gets worse when three new even more powerful Gundams are in play. It’s almost turning into the Justice League at this point. Since it’s a shortened recap episode, I don’t exactly have a lot to say besides “I hate recap episodes!”.

Points of Interest

image

OH GEASS NO! Wrathful Tsundere Loli Gundam?! If you’re going to cast Rie Kugimiya as Gundam pilot, at least give us an “URASAI URASAI URASAI!” attack. Or at least a “BAKA INU!” attack. More at least cut to Nena chomping on some melonpan. If none of the above occur, then I must guess that the Gundam Thrones are evil!

image

And… of course… one of her onii-sans is Kamina. But he’s using his Bamboo Blade voice. If he doesn’t break out a “Let’s combine!” scene, then I must guess that the Gundam Thrones are evil!

image

Most evilest looking Haro ever. I think this implies that the Gundam Thrones are evil!

image

But the greatest evidence that they’re evil? No bridge bunnies for us at gawk at! How can we get more Meisters but not a net increase in bridge bunniness? This shit ain’t right, yo. They’re evil. I just know it.

(Plus… Rie Kugimiya and melonpan and Gundam… feels… like really, really damn weird and evil, doesn’t it?)

image

Or they’re only evil in the sense that we endured this arc just to introduce more toy plastic figurines to sell. I’m cynical that way, but I’m siding with Sergei on this one: “If you could do that, why did you wait so long? What the fuck are you planning, Celestial Being?” It’s one thing to have your enemies confused, but even your friends? None of the original four Gundam Meisters knew about the Thrones, nor did Sumeragi or Ms. Wang or Mr. Corner. It does throw a monkey wrench into Gundam 00, but it’s a monkey wrench for the sake of monkey wrenches. It’s like if Sumeragi just decided to re-enact the last half of The Crying Game.

(People who have seen The Crying Game, I hope your cringing in horror right now. I am for even bringing this point up. For people who haven’t seen The Crying Game, I’m not going to spoil it for you… but… prepare to cry.)

image

I’m also curious why Sumeragi sent the Gundams into battle knowing full well that they are destined to fail. And why send them with that craptastic plan when they knew the AEU/Union/HRL plans in advance? My only guess is that Sumeragi is a double agent! It would be the greatest twist in Gundam history if it’s revealed that Crying Game Sumeragi is a double agent as well.

image

The comical plot recap with Mr. Corner talking to various works of art? So unintentionally hilarious. I’m not sure what kills me more, the fact that it’s so damn serious, the fact that only Mr. Corner’s face is shown, or that art and artifacts are being used to represent the various people of Celestial Being. It almost reminds me of the wide open orgy scene in Eyes Wide Shut.

And from last time

Sheba: Why did Fox cancelled Futurama already?

Good news everybody! There’s four new three episode movies for Futurama! If you haven’t seen Bender’s Big Score, I highly recommend it. Now that’s some fun time traveling.

Lana: Then again maybe I am cutting sunrise writers too much slack … but come on, this is so much more exciting than watching the Gundams effortlessly lay waste to everyone around them!

Well, I do agree with you that it’s a lot better than watching Louise and Saji. And Marina. And Mr. Corner. And Setsuna moping around. I still do not understand Louise and Saji… and I’m really confused now that we have a mighty tsundere, but Rie Kugimiya isn’t voicing her. It’s like I’ve entered the Vanilla Sky.

(I’m almost done with this post, so probably no third Tom Cruise reference.)

weirdofu: And for Bandai, they just want to sell more toys.

This theory is the most plausible for the introduction of the Thrones. I can actually picture the Loveless team fighting Sunrise and Bandai about introducing more mobile suits or introducing upgrades to the Meisters but getting overruled by their corporate masters. “You think this is fine art? Good entertainment? Sensible writing?!? WHAT THE HELL DO WE PAY YOU FOR?!? GO WHORE SOME TOYS!!!”

Blademun: Note: I really do like the new OP song, at least..

Well, if you liked the new ED, I would have given you a “Yep… these are my readers.” But, no. In fact, I’m disappointed it’s been a few episodes, and I still haven’t gotten a decent Gundam 00-related YTAMR. Sad, sad, sad times.

  1. Well, compared to the last few recap episodes we’ve gotten out of Sunrise (Code Geass and Gundam Seed Destiney), it’s not nearly as bad.

  2. It’s funny that Rie Kugimiya has had a ton of different roles, but she’s typecast into the wrathful loli.

  3. None of the original four Gundam Meisters knew about the Thrones, nor did Sumeragi or Ms. Wang or Mr. Corner.

Actually, Alejandro knows. Heck, HE CREATED THEM (dun dun duuunn!). He said so himself during the meeting/recap between the SEELE CB Observers. And the Trinity squad is outside Veda’s plans. Tieria said this himself earlier. Evil (dun dun duuunn!)!

(People who have seen The Crying Game, I hope your cringing in horror right now. I am for even bringing this point up. For people who haven’t seen The Crying Game, I’m not going to spoil it for you… but… prepare to cry.)

I’ve seen Vandread season 2, nothing phases me anymore.

  4. I was pretty surprised to see Tsundere Version Haro in this episode, anyway.

    -v-

  5. You forgot to mention that the other brother has Rock’s VA. Now wouldn’t putting Shana, Rock and Kamina in a team together yield great results. Kamina would wipe out all the enemies with his manliness, Rock would handle all of the negotiations and Shana would sit atop his head eat melon bread and scream uruchai uruchai uruchai.

  6. Wait, where’s the Epyon, driven by a guy whose name sounds like bad innuendo? Am I missing something? What do you mean, I’m 10 years too late?

Yup, still waiting for Celestial Being to finally decide “Hey, we own a space station, let’s just crash it into the Earth!”

Also… I’d de-“Throne” that redhead…no? Not a bad enough pun? Blah, whatever. Looks like you’re going another week without a “YTAMR”

  7. Rie Kugimiya voiced Kamyu from Utawarerumono. That was an unusual type for her because she is far from being a tsundere, and has DD cups.

  8. “It’s like if Sumeragi just decided to re-enact the last half of The Crying Game.”

She can’t help it, It’s in her nature.

As for crying during “The Crying Game” those were manly tears damnit…still it did have a heck of a twist.

Ah if only Sumeragi were a double agent who alone held the fifth freedom, but as it stands she still sucks as a commander.

  9. I hope they freeze their asses while sitting on that Throne…^^

  10. Maybe you haven’t gotten a YTAMR-level post yet because Gundam00 isn’t even exciting enough for one?

(I’m just guessing, I’m watching Hayate no Gotokou)

  11. @Turambar
And considering Code Geass had two FULL recap episodes in its 25 episode run, a half recap episode that is at least told in the context of the show (silly talking art or no) is much better.

    @Jason
“I can actually picture the Loveless team RIGHTING Sunrise and Bandai about introducing more mobile suits or introducing upgrades to the Meisters but getting overruled by their corporate masters.”

This is me nitpicking, but it should really be writing. The improper use of the word seriously inhibited my ability to appreciate your joke. I tried to keep reading, but it just sat there, nagging me. Fix it!

  12. i really want to see two haro’s fight
a purple vs orange haro grudge match would be great.

  13. wouldn’t a haro grudge match be about as “exciting” as 2 balls fighting each other?

haha, geddit? balls? haros?…nevermind. I really have been spending too much time on /m…

But more gundam is good, right? I mean, about half the target audience are gundam fans and their fathers (obscure lucky star joke), obviously we’d want to see more gundam.

    It IS good, right…?

  14. Jason! Why are you blogging this crap instead of Shinra-sama’s melonpan in They Are My Noble Masters??? Who cares about stupid robots, it’s Wilhellmina’s seiyuu in a role as a hawt, melonpan-riffic tease! You’ve even got a DFC in Miyu, and we just won’t discuss Benisu in a meido outift… and rope.

What’s wrong with you, man? Go watch episode 3 — but cover the keyboard first. Sticky keys ftl….

  15. I think its almost genius to tack a recap ep onto the end of a “cliffhanger resolution” ep. If I know its a recap ep going into it I would never ever watch. I even skipped the mighty TTGL recap ep (maybe ill go back and look one day soon. A TTGL recap is 10x more interesting at this point than most of the new shows this season).

As far as throne being evil… Now that would actually be a good thing and would totally solve the “superman” issues that you point out the show as having. I think you may be on to something there. Or at least im wishing you are.

And finally the side note. It sure was funny watching Patrick Colasour get pwnt before he even knew that an attack was incoming. That guy has consistently been everyones bitch starting from the very first “battle” of the first episode. How the hell is AEU even a superpower with that guy as the “ace pilot”? His skills are summed up by the capture of Virtue in ep 15. Tiera was totally exausted and was hella slow to aim and fire, the shot was so slow and telegraphed that someone on foot could have dodged it. So “Patty” dodged the shot, with even a bit of grace. And the rest of the squad captured Virtue in some type of energy box. Immediately “Patty-cakes” claims that the gundam was captured “all thanks to me”! I guess he deserves the bitch slappings he gets every 4th ep. …How the hell is AEU even a superpower with that guy as the “ace pilot”?

  16. >> This is me nitpicking, but it should really be writing.

LOL. You got it wrong too. I’ll fix it properly.

  17. They should just rename this Gundam: Endless Deus Ex Machina. I mean, come on, so close to watching the emo brigade get spanked, and they bring out this ass pull. It’s like Blue-bloody-Peter with their “Here’s one I prepared earlier” gundams (only Brits will get that probably, but the NFL stuff makes me go “Huhwah?” so meh).

  18. @Jason

Ah! I see what you originally meant. No wonder it made no sense to me when I read it. Very well then.

    @Alt

This seems to be the reason the HRL has to get soldiers from the likes of PMC and other foreign parties (Ali entering the French Foreign Legion comes to mind). Besides, Patrick is no ace. He just has a major case of inflated ego. Our good friend Katie is helping to deflate it some.

  19. @ Amuro1X
“And considering Code Geass had two FULL recap episodes in its 25 episode run, a half recap episode that is at least told in the context of the show (silly talking art or no) is much better.”

Sounds much better in concept, at least. Haven’t seen Gundam 00 #16 yet, so…

Btw, Code Geass had 25 non-recap episodes, all in all.

The two recaps just led to a ridiculously long wait for 24-25, not to a permanent loss.

  20. Heh, Blue Peter “here’s one I made earlier” is actually a pretty good analogy. The whole story about these nerds secluded in space for decades and getting like 4* anyone else’s advancement is a bit hard to swallow to begin with.

  21. Tidal, that Haro-match becomes a lot more interesting if they condone bouncing of the seventh variety.

  22. Thank you sooo much for that Picture Jason. With just a little bit of time In paintshop I was able to turn it into a great 1280×960 desktop. Kinda like that car commercial…”When you turn it on, does it return the favor?” Well…..now my comp certainly does.

  23. Gundam is going nowhere

Their weapons, seem to blast with a single shot some mobile suits but others survive a complete barrage (like that disgusting pink MS)
the pilots performance in the previous battle was a total failure, combined with the tactical prowess of their commander…..
their armor was barely scratched by the artillery, why they did’t left the battle? or regrouped? or do SOMETHING!!
They dont seem to use ammunition, they are virtually indestructable, yet they did nothing (i havent seen ep 16 but as it is if they havent destroyed at least 80% of the enemy force….)
    the series just became G00

  24. Well, Rie does one role that isn’t a tsundere, Kagura from Gintama. Though loli, its the type of loli that make you question “it this right?” but some what “easy on the eyes and mindset.” The show’s talky but its mad fun.

  25. I really like Rie Kugimiya in Gintama as well. It’s a kinda unusual loli voice.

  26. I dunno, this ep was pretty decent for me. Nena is cute, and we now know why the heck Alejandro’s in the show at all. Plus his Observer buddies remind me of SEELE but weirder.

Maybe the next recap episode will explain the underlying reason for the incest-threesome-doujin-waiting-to-happen that is Saji, Louise, and Louise’s mom.

  27. gundam 00 dvd vol. 1 first week sale on japan :

    22,847

    no good.

  28. You know, I bet there would be no complaints at all if there was an entire episode recapping all of Sumeragi’s/Ms. Wang’s outfits.

  29. Yeah, but it would be even better if there was a recap of Mako-cakes’ outfits; therefore, Gundam 00 loses again.
