gainax anime wins tokyo anime fair’s 2007 award

If I told you that a Gainax series won Tokyo Anime Fair‘s 2007 Best Animation award, you probably would have believed me, right? Damn right. The Evangelion remake won Best Animation. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Dennou Coil split for Best TV Animation. Other winners: Death Note for Voice Performance, Yoko’s breasts for Character Design, and Evangelion for Best Direction (shockingly, not given to a Sunrise series). Sola won jack, but it did get picked up by Bandai Visual, thus guaranteeing a ridiculous price tag.

  1. Did Kara no Kyoukai at least get an honorary mention or something?

  2. /feigns surprise

  3. Are you telling me that Byousoku 5 cm lost to the Eva remake in terms of best animation?!

  4. Are you telling me that there was an Eva remake series & I just didn’t give a damn because I was too busy crying tears of GAR for Kamina, Kittan & Nia?

  5. Seems like a pretty good list to me. I’ve been wanting to see the new Evangelion remake and this just adds to it. I wonder how close Gurren-Lagann was to winning best music, though it’s very hard to beat Yoko Kanno.

  6. At Least Sola got some recognition, why is Bandai licensing everything I love?

  7. Actually the first EVA Rebuild movie has been available for quite some time now (a subbed version came out a month or so ago), but it’s best not to expect much as it’s pretty much a ‘recap’ and ‘re-introduction’ to the characters and the universe of EVA (except the awesome redo of Ramiel and a better-executed Operation Yashima). The continuity shift begins with the second movie though, with the expected appearance of Prototype Unit-05, the descent of Unit-06, and Kaworu…

  8. anyone write a review of any of the kara no kyokai movies anywhere? I’m interested to read about them.

and go Anno, good year for him i guess. Maybe he wont go apeshit and find another excuse to remkae eva for a fourth time.
