I. Am. ZERO!!!!!!
Code Geass returns kinda taking place after where the first season ended. Lulu returns, strangely enough, as a carefree student, with most of Ashford’s students the same. One thing bugged me is that when they swapped Nunnally for Rolo, wouldn’t the other Ashford students know? Like, wouldn’t Shirley, Millay, or Rivalz ask, “Hey, what happened to your sister, and how’d you get a brother?!”
Suzaku is no longer of the academy, and we’ll know from a later episode that he’s been promoted to the Sunrise rip-off of the Knights of the Round Table. I’m, of course, bugged that Britannia has been exposed to be America yet they’re using all British metaphors. Would it kill ya to use an actual American historical reference?
Most of the Black Knights around Lulu were captured or killed. A few remainders, like the insane Diethard and the Urd-like Lakshata escaped to the HRL… err… China. A few others stayed behind and are now plotting Lulu’s rescue, like C.C. (who was last scene drowning, IIRC) and Kallen (who was last scene panicking over realizing that she had been lusting after Lulu, much like Mako-cakes’ finding out that Mako-cakes is out of mascara after being invited to a sleepover by Kana). Kallen is also no longer with the academy, supposedly, and I’m surprised no one brought up a “Hey, what ever happened to Suzaku, Kallen, and Nunnally?” yet. Or did Britannia just tell them that all three transferred to Canada?
In some symmetry with the first episode of Code Geass, this season starts off pretty much the same way: a mishap at a chess playing event leads to Lulu receiving his geass from C.C..
OH GEASS NO
The thing that stuck out at me the most? The animation quality. Code Geass R2 is significantly better than Gundam 00, light-years better than the original season of Code Geass, and stepping into Kyoto territory. I always knew that they had the funds to do it, but now they’re actually making good on that potential… except that potential is potentially wasted on another series that can most lovingly be described as a train wreck. That is until I saw Bunny Girl Kallen. Mmm… that’ll do. That’ll do.
(Kyoto, if you want to remain in the top spot, five words: Bunny girls Kyou and Ryou.)
I’d have to place Kallen as the #2 overall seed for any bunny girl tournament behind only Mikuru. And even that’s potentially up for debate as while Mikuru has the baby face going for her, Kallen has more shapely legs and looks fantastic piloting Guren Nishiki in a bunny girl outfit.
The scene that sums up the OH GEASS NO experience in its entirety: Lulu dumping Bunny Girl Kallen to escape (and hold hands with) his brother. I’m glad that some things just don’t change.
I was a bit confused at “Wait, Lulu has a brother?” for a brief moment, but it’s all part of the pseudo-restart. I feel like Rolo was inserted as a character after Suzaku shot Lulu thus making any OH GEASS NO moments between them inexplicable in addition to uncomfortable.
Didn’t Gundam 00 start off with a waving flag followed by a quick overview of the current political situation? In any case, we now know for sure that Britannia is America. At first, I thought it was England / Europe with America, but, nope. I’m not sure what I would rant more about: the anti-American imperialism sentiments in recent Sunrise anime or how England is much better choice as a source nation for “Britannia.”
(Hilariously, in the following episode, Lulu establishes his headquarters as the “United States of Japan.”)
Is Sunrise still going to try to cram school harem romance elements into Code Geass? It worked so well the first season…
“Your breath smells like pepperoni.”
Yep, can’t be Code Geass without blatant Pizza Hut marketing. I can’t wait for C.C. to be spooning a Cheese-kun again.
pizzapizza where’s my pizza it be in the hut chigga it be in the hut
C.C. Kiss = Season 1 Recap…..
You do realise that this season is based a year after the last one ended, right? It would make no sense for everyone to be shocked over appearances/disappearances that took place that long ago. Lelouche doesn’t seem the type to have told everyone about his family so a brother transferring in probably wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, anyway.
Good to know I wasn’t the only one that went o_O when I realized England wasn’t part of Britannia. A second o_O appeared when I saw New Zealand was.
its like the American Revolution didn’t happen, and after Germany stomps England during the World Wars, the King decides to relocate to the largest and most powerful colony he has got. Thus changing the center from the Isles to North America. Give then a century or two and the Scots and Irish can decide to brake away from the Empire, thus leaving America as “Britannia”, (because the “Americans” outnumber the English, and thus now really don’t care about the Isles).
This is the only way I can see this working. Unless the Japanese feel our “imperialist” way with our British allies will lead to a Royal take-over once the American public gets feed up with our own political system, and voting for the lesser of two (or three) evils grows tiresome to the average American.
Actually, according to one of the first season DVD extras, IIRC, the American Revolution failed and the Royal House plus certain members of the Btitidh government fled to the Colonies after a united Europe went after the U.K. In other words, Britannia is what America became after becoming the center of the British Empire… and thus the ‘Americans’ are really transplanted British nobles.
Shit, does that mean, we will be facing the likes of a Bismarck German Army? ACHUNG NACHTPANZER!
>> In other words, Britannia is what America became after becoming the center of the British Empire… and thus the ‘Americans’ are really transplanted British nobles.
I see so many problems with this history rewrite that I’m not even going to stick a fork in it. I will say it would have been easier if they just made Britannia England instead of having this convoluted America scenario.
Still, I wonder if Britannia is using the metric or English system.
I cracked up upon realizing that Kallen was holding the key to her mecha in her cleavage. It also looks like the animation went up a notch. The confusing part of the history is that they mention George Washington… but there’s no America… you know what? I’m not even going to try.
I don’t know about metric or imperial (yeah, imperial, lol) measurements, but I noticed in the first episode that the currency in Area 11 is the Pound (it’s on a receipt for parking).
The rebellion taken place but failed because Benjamin Franklin turned Benedict Arnord (and yes, I been waiting to make this pun).
Acaualy i can see that happening….
“Ben, come on. Join the winning team.”
“Never!”
“Well include a life time supply of beer and French hookers.”
“All right! gigity gigity goo!”
Mmmm, Pizza Hut…
Wait. Really? 2nd best bunnygirl?
…you have just initiated hell, Jason.

…okay. Maybe not hell. But I’ve been waiting to pull that one off for a while.
We’re back i naction
Um… what?
Well, the British isles were lost to France back then (Napoleon) and relocates its capitol at the East side of the Americas. The American Revolution DID exist but lost, Washington killed and Benjamin becomes an Earl or traitor. In the 1800’s the European nations combine to create the EU becoming the US of Code Geass, the European countries become like the US “States” and is a democracy, supporting equal rights, the British Isles are part of them as well as Russia and Africa are. China is still a Dynasty and controls most of Asia (Indai, Malaysia etc.) including the Asian Islands. The Middle East, Japan, New Zealand and the America’s are controlled by Britannia.
