  1. Hmmmm, but what do you really think?

  2. It’s a great show
    Thanks for the spoilers lol.

  3. damnit i haven’t watched…just only dled…

  4. Very interesting episode. Tome is very sharp, isn’t she? She’s got a sixth sense for danger, even without experience.

Show is starting to get a little odd, supernatural almost.

  5. Starting?
Its been dropping the post-war technology-gone-mad vibes since the beginning. The steampunk stuff is getting more explicit, though, your right about that.

Emo Kei makes me sad (hmm maybe emo isn’t the right word-he did lose all his friends, his father figure, his eye, and his mom tried to kill him-still he pushed away a DFC, no excuse for that). Why doesn’t Chiko tell him about the train explosion? Might make him realize that Twenty Faces didn’t abandon him and only care about Chiko.

  6. This 4koma is awesome.

I recently caught up with the last few episodes and there’s something I’m a little confused about. Is the show supposed to be set in a more or less believable alternate version of post-war Japan or is it supposed to be set in a totally alternate world that just happens to have some parallels with post-war Japan?

  7. It should be set in the secert underground workings of post-war japan. Just sorta think of all those Cold war conspiricy theories and make some of them true.

Yes this show is awesome. I love how Chiko plainly knows that the Aunt is out to get her. and the Aunt plainly knows Chiko knows as much. Also the Detective Guy that motivates Chiko, I thought he was 20 face but now I think he is the Uncle. I’m glad Emo Ken is back on Chiko’s side (I think), He will be member 1 of the new Daughter of 20 Face gang.

  8. But where is Tome in the meido pantheon?

  9. You know, I was going to theorise that Tome is 20 Faces, but this bedroom scene ruined that.

  10. @Yukimura-

I think its supposed to be alternate history post WWII Japan. There are elements of real history-places, school uniforms, the Catholic Church is referenced I think. But you have the steampunk elements-super serums, robots, puppet people, and of course, the deal breaker, a dirigible. If you ever have any doubt as to what genre a piece of fiction is; ask yourself ‘does it have a dirigible?’. If so, then it is steampunk. This is true whether we’re talking about the Little Nemo movie or Indiana Jones or Final Fantasy. It defines the genre.

  11. Tome-san has a nice rack; that alone should qualify her for the meido pantheon.

I’m hoping for an onsen episode.

  12. That was such a short comment for such a good show.

Did you notice how the rain drop looked like a tear on Chiko’s face while another extiniguished the fire in Ken’s cigarette? This anime is full of awesomeness, so please do write more!

Who was twenty faces? and what was his legacy? I’m imagining the legacy to be something within each and every one of us that we have to discover as we grow older, and hopefully wiser.

I’m starting to get tired of Maid Guy, but Chiko still has momentum. Like you said before, there isn’t a wasted moment within the anime, but there are a lot of wasted moments with Maid Guy, even with all his golden badges. There are new elements within Twenty Faces ANime that entertain fans every week, without mimicking the train wreck status that Code Geass has. Full of awesomeness and great storytelling. Dolls.

  13. This show could have another tagline:

“Fun with Japanese Science During WWII!”

Do a wiki search for Daughter of Twenty Faces and do some research on the original works of Edogawa Ranpo that inspired this series, and it will quickly become obvious (since he gave his name) who the “motivating detective” is.

  15. …this post practically forced me to start watching the series.

My only real regret is that, after marathoning up to this point, I’ll have to start waiting for new episodes to come.

  16. I thought you of all people would compare this episode to Haruhi!

Approach to island outside boat – check
    Mysterious island – check
Giant mansion atop island – check
    Meido – check
    Murder – check
Sneaking outside of island at night – check
Imouto in a suitcase – DOH

I think it would be more accurate to say that Daughter of 20 Faces is set in PULP ADVENTURE! post-war Japan. In the same way that Raiders of the Lost Ark was set in PULP ADVENTURE! Egypt. Realism is strictly subordinate to drama and spectacle.
