Long overdue showdown between the two great melonpan complexed DFC mages.
Volatility
Louise only goes bonkers when her breasts or Saito are brought up as conversation topics. Lina goes to Homer Simpson-esque pieces whenever and however she chooses. Also, when Louise gets pissed, she just takes it out on Saito (who is quickly turning into Dokkoida‘s Pierre). Lina takes it out on everyone around her– friend, foe, bystander, it matters not. Louise is flammable because of the feelings that she holds for Saito. Lina is just guilty of being Lina.
Magecraft
While Louise is training to be a mage, she sucks at it. She sucked so much, she summoned Saito instead of something more useful like a flying dragon or a digging mole. But she is one of the few users of void magic, and ultra-powerful branch of magic in the Zero no Tsukaima universe. Lina, on the other hand, is a master of all magic and all destruction. I think Lina would be a competent challenger to Nanoha Takamachi.
Competition
Louise has a lot of competition for Saito’s affections. There’s the big-breasted meido, the big-breasted tavern wench, the big-breasted classmate, the big-breasted queen, and the big-breasted elf. Gulp. I think hanging around them all only makes Louise seem even smaller. Lina, on the other hand, just mainly competes against her sisters… and Louise has sisters too so uh… nevermind.
Voice
Lina is voiced by one of the greats of anime, Megumi Hayashibara. Louise is voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who is probably the defining voice of wrathful lolis.
DFC-ness
Lina is actually drawn with bumps. Louise is drawn with a straight-edge. End of story.

Yeah, I’m not sure about Lina but Louise goes insane about breast size every episode. I like the new elf though…
I think I’ll stick with the WMD, rather than the yandere-masquerading-as-a-tsundere. :D
This is a terrible conflict of epic proportions…tttteeerrribbllleee indeed….hmm, who to choose, who to choose…I choose Louise because she is a fresh meat DFC unlike Lina that is way too old (anime era and age-wise) than her and I do want to see if Louise hair is naturally pink…or not…^_~
Mage-wise, Lina of course is the better mage because she has a patron god (from What I remember) in the slayers universe right? And she got loads of experience, ability and knowledge in the magic dept. While Louise is just a student making her way out.
But in terms of magical DFC-dehydrated loli’s, I’ll stick to the classic Sakura Kinomoto…^_~
Yeah, collateral damage is just so much more hilarious than an overmatched tsundere.

Lina, despite having thermonuclear-level spells, has something Louise lacks in her spellcasting: variation. Void magic aside, Louise can barely cast common utility spells, whereas Lina can do recovery spells aside from her iconic Dragon Slave and Giga Slave.

Louise is young and therefore, has potential to grow. Lina has been flat since the early 90’s and is now in her early twenties.
And lets not forget that Lina has destroyed the equivalent of gods in her world, as well as summoned them.
Louise can barely cast a spell without a human shield.
In ZnT, Louise is known as Zero.
In the Slayers series, Lina is known as “The Enemy of All Who Live.”
Unless one wants to try and link Louise to Capcom’s bishie android, I have to side with Lina. After all, I can survive a kick to the nuts. I can’t survive a Dragon Slave. X_X
Louise tends to take the spotlight away from superior characters in her own show.

Wow, so far no one really sticking up for Louise. I thought it’ll be a bit closer than that, but the night is young. I will say that if I were going on a journey to either save or destroy the world, I’d take along Lina. It’s a no-brainer. However, if I were going to involve myself in a harem comedy situation, Louise would be involved. It’s a no-brainer. What I have trouble with is if America conquers Japan, but I, as an American prince, leads a rebellion against the Americans, would I rather have Lina or Louise at my side? They wouldn’t actually fight– they’d just sit around eating pizza all day long.

But Louise doesn’t even come close to Lina, seriously. ;)
Also in terms of presence, Louise has just got a 3rd season and all of her seasons have 13 episodes. Lina just got a 4th season and all of them have 26 episodes + movies and ovas. Louisa has 14+ light novels, Lina has over 50.
Also Lina has quite a temperament, but she’s not half as exagerrated as Louise, whose just childish.
And Lina is only 17 in Slayers Try, so in Revolution she might still be 17 or maybe 18. Louise is 16 already. So Lina has done quite a bit more in the same time ^^;
Plus Gourry easily wins over Saito in terms of loyality, usefullness and maybe even intelligence XD
I’ve only seen 2 episodes of the current season of Slayer but both seasons of ZnT. I must say, even from those 2 episodes, Lina’s so much more win than Louise.

Gourry without doubt is the better swordsman… but I have my doubts on intelligence… a jellyfish brain will always be a jellyfish brain…
As a DFC: Lina is still in school, late development is still possible. Lina has been stuck with those tiny bumps for over a decade. Clearly she’s forever DFC.

As a Mage: Louise may certainly have access to the greatest magic possible, but she also lacks all ability to make effective use of it, and screws up more often than using it effectively. Lina has been using her magic to wipe out scum for ages, and is capable of leaving craters in her wake.

Results: Lina 3 vs Lousie 1, winner Lina. That said, if I was picking one to be a haremette, I would still choose Louise. However, this is not a haremette contest, it’s a who’s the greatest DFC, melon-pan complexed mage. Therefore, my vote goes to Lina.

older generation folks (dat’s it? we are ‘folks’ now) probably remember the side splitting laughter from seeing the first episode of slayers.
Also Lina gets to be a char in dota (Defence of the Ancients) and gank people…. Louise is probably a free kill.

Now we wait for the next generation of DFC-magic filled and definitely crazy mage to take over Lina. (Nonoha lacks the crazies and Louise lacks the magic usually, we need one who has all three in one package.)

Psh, Lina in a heartbeat. She’s one of the all-time greats. Louise is an excellent example of her archetype, but that’s all she is- an example.
Plus Lina wears her underwear on the outside. I think it looks stupid, but that takes guts to walk around in, and you have to admit her costume will never be mistaken for anyone else’s.
Mine is definitely Lina because I have been watching slayers since I was 7 in subtitles on the international channel so I’ve been following it for 10 years. Lina is also the very reason I always choose spellcaster type characters. I like to imagine i’m using the dragon slave on everything in games such as bugs. (>_<)

Lina, hands down. I first watched the series in the late 90s so the series had nostalgia to go for it, that’s for sure. But come on, Lina owns Louise, totally.
I’m so glad to see all the old crews back, and Megumi singing again <3 My favourite OP is still Give a Reason, though the new singles do just fine to recreate the Slayers spirit.
