… but what are her hopes and dreams?
If there ever was a “Kiss me! Kiss me and ravage me like an animal you fucking idiot!” face, this was it. Andohbytheway, I think the collective harem of Clannad must have made this face a record 371 times during the first season with Kyou clocking in a healthy 191 times.
Definitely felt like a good lead-in to a sex scene.
Though I wonder who the Nagisa equivalent of Macross Frontier would be? Anyway, I hope Alto finally boned Sheryl. About time someone not named “Kogarashi” acted like a man in an anime that I’m watching… even if Alto-hime looks more girly than Luluko. Though I’m glad that they didn’t show the actual sex scene just so we can insert our own dialogue like: Sheryl says “Wait… there’s nothing down there…”
“Is it fun? Explaining ‘you’re going to die’ with fancy, complicated words.”
I’ll say to the same thing to any blogger who tries to approach Code Geass R2 with a straight face: “Is it fun? Explaining ‘trainwreck’ with fancy, complicated words?”
Hopes and dreams! Hopes and dreams!
Gonna take you
Right into the Danger Zone
So disappointed we didn’t get a Top Gun-like antic.
Highway to the Danger Zone
One way watching anime has changed me: I was fully expecting Klan to be, uh, dry humping an inanimate object here. Or maybe it’s just Code Geass. Worst case scenario, of course, would be the heads of Sunrise smirking as they read this… “Just as we planned!”
I can kinda understand why Alto isn’t going with The Pirates, but Klan? I thought she would have gone with them.
Flashbacks of Meyrin. Good times… good times… and if Gino suddenly hooks up with Kallen a la Shinn and Lunamaria, I will light myself on fire.
Welcome to the George W. Bush All-Stars! All he needs is to make ridiculous speeches in front of “Mission Accomplished” banners.
I like this outfit for Sheryl. It’s like a typical seifuku, only naughtier. Probably one of the least surprising revelations (besides Nunnally is still alive and pregnant with Schneizel’s child) is that fold waves are created with– gasp– love. What next? The Vajra aren’t evil?
You know what this reminds me of? The episode of The Simpsons when Krusty hits rock bottom (comedy-wise) and gets booed off some comedy showcase. So he vows to lose his shill image and goes back to do “edgy” comedy in small clubs without real pay. But at the end of the episode, someone offered him a Canyonero if he sold out. And he did. Oh Canyonero!
I guess my point is that it mirrors Sheryl’s fall and rise. And instead of riding a Canyonero, she’s riding Alto.
She blinds everybody with her super high beams,
She’s a squirrel crushing, deer smacking, driving machine!
Canyonero!-oh woah, Canyonero!
(And, yes, this was a Phil Hartman episode… that’s ooooold.)
Not a bad outfit either. Definitely draws the eyes…
There is no Ranka-puppy is cute montage this week. Sorry.
Both Ranka and Alto were a little disappointing in this episode — Ranka for running a way (sort of) and leaving Frontier in it’s time of need, and Alto for being such an indecisive arse. Mind you, the SMS wasn’t much better, but at least they had a good reason (Leon being an evil and powerhungry arse) for their defection.
I have to say though, Grace’s self-grope really came out of nowhere, ESPECIALLY when one considers the scene that preceded it (her killing off the lackeys Leon sent to arrest her).
@Myssa Rei: Maybe she’s a sadist/gets turned on by that sort of stuff. >_>
Now I’m just waiting for this blog to just roll out a Chika montage.
As for Sheryl currently beating out Ranka for how far she’s gone with Alto, This has convinced me that Macross triangles favor the older girl.
My theory is that her OTHER body got blown up by Leon’s thugs… but then she respawned in the VF-27, came back and wasted them, then had to feel herself in order to get her body-awareness back. Or that’s my theory for why she’s grasping her dreams of peace through power and conquest, one in each hand. Especially with that deliciously girlish giggle as she ponders what she’ll do once she has the Vajra homeworld under her control.
Bluestreak2: I thought it was more that Macross favors the girl who spends the most time with the guy and who doesn’t run off with someone else as soon as fame hits her.
As for Klein? I think she’s sticking around because she knows if she leaves the hime alone, he’ll get himself killed.. and that’ll do Mikhail’s memory no good. Plus she wants to see him perform one more time, thus needing Big Sis Klein there to keep him alive, especially seeing how Luca’s a worthless bastard who couldn’t score with Nanase and thus takes his anger out on Ranka who could’ve had she not run off with the Vajra.
I really hope I’m not the only one that thought evil bitchgoddess belldandy looked incredibly hawt in the pilot suit. And I don’t particularly mind the lack of Ranka in this episode. I think I only find her annoying at this point.
Evil belldandy is almost always hawt…run up until she kills you.
“I’m asking you nicely and you better do as I say”…or else, I suppose.
Alto-hime is sticking around to uphold his oath to Sheryl. Klein is staying because Alto-hime is the key to defeating the Vajra, Ranka and Sheryl’s songs merely give the bugs pause, but Klein knows that once they bugs see the greatest oyama in the galaxy a Sakura-hime they will be broken and the war will be over.
Now that we know Grace is a Valkyrie pilot too I cannot wait to see her dominate all of SMS and NUNS. Hard to believe she was once considered a milquetoast.
12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
T’was a great commercial.
I’m surprised that Jason didn’t make another reference to Gundam SEED Destiny by calling Alto-hime the next Shinn. Alto is suffering the same problem where he is following the thinly-disguised evil leader (Leon here, Durandal in GSD) because it is the least mentally-stressful choice. Will he be like Shinn all the way to the end? Who knows…
Now if we were to complete the Meyrin analogy, who would the pink-haired girl have to pair up with? I am assuming that the rest of the guys on the Quarter are pretty old…
Oh, and Jason, shall I bring the gasoline? The Gino x Kallen pairing looks likely with the way they flirt with each other.
Yep, this is our blogger.
Though right now, I’m trying to come up with an anime that wouldn’t have been improved with a scene where a male lead catches one of the female leads humping an inanimate object. I can only come up with two: Ryofuku-chan and Earth Defense Force Mao-Chan.
batshit insane Grace is really messing up my brain…oh well, i guess that’s cas i’m a reader of this blog. hah
w4: Any show that centers on underaged kids can’t be improved upon by that scene, slice of life shows, or likewise shows that are absurdist to begin with. Try it, I dare you, on something like Ichigo Mashimaro or ARIA.
I’d think Ryofuko-chan is an anomaly, in that it’s both absurdist AND has lolis as its leads. Plus it’s only 4 episodes long.
Correction, Gino X Kallen isn’t reminiscent of Shinn and Luna….It’s Meyrin x Athrun at best

Hey atleast noone from the old Macross show has shown up in the Jesus Macross and hogged all the showtime relegating Alto into a stupid badguy who gets killed without landing a hit on the old Macross character…
>>> and if Gino suddenly hooks up with Kallen a la Shinn and Lunamaria, I will light myself on fire.
I demand pics when this happens.
At least Gino is established as the last sane character in Code Geass. I know Nina has always been the character everyone loves to hate, but being paired up with Rivalz is A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH!!! (or alternatively, karmic justice?)
But I digress. Good for Alto-hime and Sheryl, even if it happened by default. I just hope they don’t turn out like Ozma and Cathy in 15 years. *shudders*
That next-to-last picture really brings out the Utena resemblance – has that been noted before?
>> Correction, Gino X Kallen isn’t reminiscent of Shinn and Luna….It’s Meyrin x Athrun at best
No way. Luna had a crush on Athrun, and after he ran off and ditched her, she sought solace in Shinn’s– SHINN!!– arms. Kallen will be the same. She had a crush on Lulu, and now Lulu has gone and run off. Though I will be less disgusted with Gino than Shinn… though I still think Kallen should have just sought comfort from Sumeragi instead a la Shuffle…
Gino x Kallen is highly unlikely at this point but I’m not saying it will not happen. As for the whole Gino as Shinn and Kallen as Luna, I don’t see that because Gino wasn’t as important as Shinn in the series. I don’t see anything to compare the pairings at all actually. Blah who knows. We are talking Sunrise there.
Now back on the topic on hand, the episode did hint that Alto and Shery “did” something, but it is still up in the air if they actually “did it” or not. In comparison to the original Macross, I would say that Ranka is Minmei while Shery is Misa (of course Alto being Hikaru). So I’m not sure but if that’s the route, then Alto will most likely get with Sheryl. Still have a few episodes left though so we shall see.
As for Klan, that was no surprise. Haesslich pretty much explained it. She probably feels she need to watch over Alto in Mikhail’s place since that was probably what he would do, especially when she gave her thoughts about Alto being so dumb about getting into a relationship so that he doesn’t suffer the same fate like Mikhail and Klan.
So if Ranka ends up in Brera’s arms, is that like Lunamaria and Shinn?
And is it incestual if only half of Brera is still human (i.e. so he’s only half-related to Ranka now)?
“I have to say though, Grace’s self-grope really came out of nowhere, ESPECIALLY when one considers the scene that preceded it”
she is a sadist, i believe one night of passion with her will probably end up killing you… mmm… tempting…
I’d grasp those hopes and dreams, if you know what I mean.
I like how in a post about the newest Macross episode, we inevitably start comparing the worst shippings of R2 and GSD. Can we call this blog, “Derailed by Sunrise and Traps” now?
“So if Ranka ends up in Brera’s arms, is that like Lunamaria and Shinn?”
Not going to happen because Brera is carrying the “death flag” ever since he shown up, question is how he is going to go.
I think Klan stayed behind because she wants revenge on the Vajra, she is not really a “mentor” to Alto (Ozuma filled that role for most part).
Did Sheryl forget to mention to Alto that she has a potentially fatal infectious disease called Vajra mojo or whatever? Alto needs to make sure his partners are tested.
Also, I’m assuming Grace’s container did die and she just happened to have a back up. What I don’t get is why doesn’t she just make an extra clone/body of herself and just selfcest herself like in Kaiba rather than do some weak groping?
I am starting to think that Sheryl is getting her fashion tip from Toni Braxton because her Seifuku is cut out the exact same way as Toni’s dress from some…. award….. show? Btw, Sheryl’s career is starting to mirror Braxton career. It’s slowly fading away. :)
Megaman0, I wouldn’t be so sure… For all we know that planet that Ranka found might have the Megaroad and Hikaru and Misa might still be alive and they might upstage the Frontier group. After that pineapple cake ep, I’m not counting anything out.
Anyone else think that the lyrics to Sheryl’s new song are reminiscent of Britney Spears’ single ‘Piece of Me’? They both deal with the same themes… not saying that Ranka’s nearly as scary as Spears, but if Alto-hime managed to get her preggers maybe… :)
Okay. This feels like a challenge. 8D
Azumanga Daioh: The scene practically writes itself. Osaka has trouble clearing the vault in PE class, prompting heavy blushes from the… more knowledgeable… girls.
School Rumble: Same as above, but replace Osaka with Tenma. Alternately, Harima catches Eri on the desk, and hilarity ensues.
Fruits Basket: Ayame Sohma. That’s all that needs to be said.
Galaxy Angel: Oh, that wacky lost technology. It brought furniture to life, and those end tables are awfully frisky.
Girls Bravo: …wait, isn’t it canon already? They’ve done every other form of fanservice.
Grenadier: Yajiro catches Mikan. Hilarity and helium ensue. This scene just might beat Yajiro’s “I NEED PANTIES!” scene as the funniest in the series.
GTO: …see comment for Girls Bravo.
[shakes head] I could keep going, but I need to wash my BRAIN.

Anyway, it looks like Cool and Spicy won against the puppy dog. The only question now is how Alto is going to put that dog out of her misery.
Drakron: Given that Klein and Alto seem to go on ‘daito’-like trips around Frontier, I think it’s more that she’s being his big sister and mentoring him the way Mikhail can’t anymore. I mean, how often do we see those two together? Certainly far more often than Alto and Ranka, or even Alto and Sheryl up until the last few episodes. I think she’s there mostly to make sure that Alto’ll keep his head on – if she just wanted revenge, she’d have gone out to attack Quarter with Luca and Alto, not salute as the Quarter passed by.
Klein seems to have burnt out her need for revenge in episode 21… beyond which, she’s a Zentradi; people die in wars, and Reramaria died a few episodes back, but you don’t see her going psycho in battle over it. She’s mourning Mikhail, but at the same time still is taking care of Alto to make sure he doesn’t end up like Luca… aka a psychotic little dwarf with a frustrated sex drive.
Although, for some reason I’m imagining Alto using Touma’s line: “ORE WA ONNA DA!”
hehe, Luca hits a little too close to home for most Otaku (minus the boyish good looks), thus much dislike for him. lol
As for Hopes and Dreams, they are something I would cling to everyday, if only I had them in my life. : (
Roy Mustang: Her misery or yours? I think she’s made the people of Frontier more miserable than she’s making herself. Well, she’s also made the Vajra miserable too with her singing getting bunches of them killed and all.
Isn’t Sheryl’s Space Aids sexually transmitted?
Sorry Haesslich but I do not see it that way, it also seems you are trying to ship Alto-Klan and I certainly do not see that way, besides they rarely interacted much before.
Besides if Alto is using the “its us or then” in relation to the Vajra means Klan can think the same way, she had very personal losses to the Vajra.
As for her saluting the Macross Quarter … well it is their choice, she can respect then but staying behind seems her choice is to continue to defend the Frontier from the Vajra.
Could they be setting up for a reverse original type Macross fight? Where Frontier-Galaxy is basically the invading Zentradi forces and Quarter and the Vajra are the Macross (SDF-1) and the deculture-ized Zentradi forces?
And the only way to stop the war is either Sherly-Ranka communications/singing…or Alto making a choice/taking a stand.
Drakron: AltoxKlan’s a joke – and one I’m willing to use with anyone who ships based on ‘number of times together’.
Klein being Alto’s big sister, on the other hand, is NOT a joke. She’s given him advice before and prodded him into doing things or thinking in the past, like when Alto was being beaten like a girly-man in Episode 9 after pissing Mikhail off and asking Alto to think about WHY Mikhail would be so hair-trigger about something like accidentally hitting a teammate and relating the story of Mikhail’s sister… or later when she and Mikhail tag-teamed him into talking to Sheryl. There were even signs of this sort of thing in Episode 5 when he listened to Klein talk about why she flew, and instead of getting snarky with her response as he may have with Mikhail had he said the same thing, Alto listened.
In a way, their relationship mirrors that of Claudia LaSalle and Misa Hayase – one’s the bigger sister with more experience giving advice and support to the younger and emotionally uncertain one. Besides which, you’ll notice that Klein doesn’t look as psycho as she did in episode 21 – she’s angry at the Vajra for killing Mikhail, but doesn’t seem to feel an obsessive hate for them the way Luca or even Alto do. Her job’s to kill Vajra, and that’s as far as she takes it – but at the same time, she’s spending time with Mikhail’s friend to ensure that the latter doesn’t end up getting himself or his teammates killed because he’s a hothead who really needs a brake on his temper… and the last brake on it was Mikhail.
GOD DAMMIT, we’re approaching the end of Macross F and nothig is still celar between Sherryl, Alto and Ranka. Well, episode 25 will decide.
