summer 2009 coming fast and furious

Summer 2009… oh the apples we’ll eat.
I’m kinda conflicted about summer 2009. Until you factor in that Haruhi Suzumiya is really a summer 2009 series, it doesn’t look that spectacular. Sure, Pink Supervisor and Horo~n return, but the rest of the season looks as dull as spring 2009 did (before we saw Taki’s Johnny in Eden of the East, Mio’s rice bowl in K-On!, and Octavia’s sword trusts in TTT).
So maybe there’s a few dark horses… but… I wouldn’t hold my breathe. Expecting Kyoto Animation to deliver K-On! is less of a reach than expecting Feel, Studio Deen, or AIC to come through in the clutch. I’m intrigued by two studios this season, PA Works (Canaan) since I’m not sure if they’re a good studio or a bad studio after True Tears. Need more evidence, but they have the animation talent. Second is Brain’s Base, which doesn’t need to do much to improve over Imagin’s sub-par adaptation of Horo~n. They’re like the nice guy boyfriend who follows the abusive, crack-smoking ex-boyfriend. They did Baccano… so I have hopes.
(And, of course, Kyou OVA soon. I’m probably more excited about this than anything else.)
Don’t forget Umineko has EFD potential, meido, and a tiny hat.
I see they decided to go the subtle route with the Akasaka OAV name.
I am surprised. Nothing to say about Minami Ke OAD/OVA(w/e it is)?
You seem to forgetting Umineko. It may start boring, but after it gets rolling it will not stop and by Ep 3 Banquet of the golden witch it will be full strange characters (magical bunny girl snipers, seven yandere sisters who dress like they work in Angel Mort and a demon butler). Also the gore level will be much higher than Higurashi level, because the characters die and get revived and die and get revived and die and die and die………
CANAAN (Nasu), Bakemonogatari (lolshaft), Umineko (lol 07thexpansion), and of course ZSZS (also lolshaft) are my picks this season.
Since Haruhi won’t really pick up until mid-August, I’ll have to have something to pass the time.
No love for Aoi Hana? Sure it’s JC Staff but it’s also from the guy who made Hourou Musuko. Crossdressing is definitely on par with costume rape, but more legal.
Also, Bones and Shaft.
Umineko no Naku Koro Ni?
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni?
What
Yeah… Nothing looks interesting to me. I was vaguely interested in Umineko but then I remembered what a let down the last few arcs of Higurashi was… I’ll be sticking just with Haruhi this time, thank you. Although if Brains Base actually animates Horo with nipples, I might be interested. Might give Fight Ippatsu! Jyuden-chan!! a look, too. Know absolutely nothing about it, but you have to give anything that includes a “mysterious office lady” named “Plug” a chance, right?
Of course, I am looking forward to Hellsing Ultimate 6. Can’t ever have enough animated vampire dismemberment set to classical/techno music. Only complaint is that the Zorin v Seras fight and accompanying Pip GAR is in Volume 7 of the manga, and probably won’t be in this OVA.
I was just sharing this pic with some friends and having a good laugh at the state of anime today. LOL
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is the only show on there that is going to be worth watching. I’m wondering if will be just as weird and off-the-wall as Zoku or if it can possibly be crazier.
Also, two mentions of K-ON here – you’re still talking about that crappy moe anime? Is that still running?
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 actually looks pretty cool… like one giant disaster movie. Except since it’s animated, they can do whatever they want as it’s easier to animate then live-action stuff.
UMINEKO NO NAKU KORO NI (NUMBER ONE I’M ANTICIPATING!!) soooooo hyped for it
a-hem, also spicey wolftsu, canaan looks promisin, maybe TM 8.0, and that magical one… i think i’m looking forward to more OAV/OAD/specials xD – Minami-ke, Utawarerumono, Nodame, Negima, AkaSaka (HARD CORE LAWL?!), aika…(?)
Umi Monogatari – girl looks totally anorexic .____.”””
I’ll give it a shot to a few series this time… maybe a couple of shoujo series, one or two action series and, if we’re luckily enough, a shoujo ai one.
Time to go.
More zetsubou sensei pretty much makes the season for me. But as a bonus I get some horo, and umineko could be alright. not to mention a smattering of decent OVA’s to check out. Specifically minami ke, nodame cantabile, and utawarerumono.
I think I’ll be checking out the Minamike OAD, Zan SZS, Horo~n 2, Fight Ippatsu! Jyuden-chan, and as a bonus, Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou just because of the name…
Either Umineko is amazing or DEEN screws it up and everyone has to read the VN instead.
Bakemonogatari is a Nisio Isin comedy light novel being adapted by SHAFT so it has potential.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is the latest by Bones so I’m looking forward to it.
Canaan is an adaption of 428, a Visual Novel on Wii that actually got a perfect score from Famitsu. Also, scenario written by Nasu.
Spice & Wolf by Brains Base should at least be better than the first one.
Madhouse has two new shows. At least one of them should be good considering they need something to replace Hajime no Ippo and they’re a pretty good studio.
Hetalia Axis Powers is an amusing mini-series.
Haruhi.
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
Each season there’s some show I end up enjoying that I hadn’t heard about before-hand.
The quality of this season really isn’t that bad, guys.
>I was vaguely interested in Umineko but then I remembered what a let down the last few arcs of Higurashi was…
Why are so many people so pre-judgemental? Umineko is very different from Higurashi. It’s pointless to compare them. Try watching something before deciding not to.
>You seem to forgetting Umineko. It may start boring, but after it gets rolling it will not stop
Half of the first Episode was back-story and introductions so yeah, it’s pretty slow until the murders start. Either the anime will skip most of this part (doubt they could fit much in anyway) or it’ll have a more comedic tone.
Z(an)SZS is of course going to be something I’m looking forward to as well, but unfortunately it’ll be unwatchable for me without a sub.
I’m in despair! This dearth of subbing for Zetsubou Sensei has me in despair!!
What I plan on at least checking out: Canaan, Economics 201, Bakemonogatari, Umineko, ZSZS, Umi Monogatari.
What I am currently expecting to finish: Economics 201, ZSZS.
I guess Netflix/Old Shows will be my anime entertainment for the summer with this poor selection. That’s all well and good but I HATE what they have done to Aika. Where have all the sexy grown women gone. Why must we have them look like their 12 years old!!!
Is Kuruneko LOLcats the Anime?
SZS for the despair! Aoi Hana for the Yuri! Umineko for the Facial Distortions!
But… I will still miss K-on! No more Mio? Despair!!!!
Wow. Not even 4 comments down and some guy who played the game starts throwing out Umineko spoilers out the wazoo. Though given the massive amounts of probable emo facial distortions coming up, it’s just jason’s cup of tea.
Umi Monogatari has Junichi Sato as the director and Kaleido Star’s scriptwriter, so I’m hopeful about it.
The only one I’m really looking forward to is Umineko. I wonder how they’ll handle the gore, though…
Isn’t it funny, even though we know Haruhi 2009 is airing, that it never appears officially anyplace?
I’ll try Umineko. I’ve read up on it and like some of the designs and music…but still not sure exactly what is in store for the audiance. With Higurashi coming to an end by August, the need for more “killer-lolis” becomes greater…and Umineko, if the designs and patterns are correcct…will hold killer-lolis in spades and aces. Also the potential of Battler using Hosaka’s laugh it too good to pass up.
Speaking of which, I’m very curious about the new Minami-ke OAD (what does that mean anyway?). I know it ships with the new volume of the manga (the sixth one out), so that means there will be more material if someone picks up the anime for a fourth season…and the Broken need there Haruka-neesama and Mako-chan.
>>OAD (what does that mean anyway?)
Original Animation… Disc? I think it’s mainly used to identify OAVs that are released as a bundle with one of the manga volumes, as opposed to their sold separately counterparts.
All hail Bakemonogatari.
