Everyday young life Junes!
Best part of Persona 4 thus far? AIC Asta (Sora no Otoshimono, Amagami SS, the horrible R-15) kept the music! Shouji Meguro penned the best RPG soundtrack since Final Fantasy VIII, and it’s used to great effect. The Engrish is so good and overpowering too.
If you’ve played Persona 4, the plot looks to be a vanilla following of it (unlike Trinity Soul). There’s going to be some high points (the plot twists, eating Nanako’s pudding, the King Game) and some low points (the predictable plot twist, all the secondary clubs you don’t care as much about). There’s not a lot of reason to religiously watch this series if you have finished the game, but, if you haven’t, it’s much easier to watch this series than to grind it out in Nightmare Channel. Though not as fulfilling as finally being able to fuse a tri-elemental Leanan Sidhe.
Gosh, I like the status screens for the interstitial. Finally an RPG turned anime that works RPG elements into said anime! Nothing like trying to decide between grinding strength or knowledge… like deciding to grind Yukiko, Chie, or Rise.
(One of my favorite parts of Persona 4 is that you can try to score all the chix0rs, except they’ll end up cockblocking either other. Great fun. Unless you really need a date-o event with Chie, and Yukiko shows up to foil your plans.)
(Also, best interstitial since Nichijou. Yeah, not enough time has passed since Nichijou… but I do like what Persona is trying to do. I just wonder if the skills level up as the anime progresses.)
Iz dis sum Hanasaku Iroha? Anime about city boy moving to the countryside against his will? Never been done in anime. Never. And he only brings like 1 piece of luggage even though he’s moving for over a year.
I love me some Junes. It’s like the Meijer’s of the anime world. Now if only they had half-off bentos…
Teddy sounds so strange. I am used to his, uh, more flamboyant English voice.
(Definitely went to the Izanagi too fast… like they were rushing to it for the first episode. And they skipped out on all the early Yukiko flirting. Then again, I think I didn’t fight a battle in the game until the one hour mark… good old JRPGs.)
Animation is above average for the season, but seeing Doujima and Nanako in those outfits over and over makes me sad. I understand PS2 limitations, but I hope the anime has outfit changes… this is 2011 after all. The OP/ED are disappointing (but I’m hoping they are currently just placeholders) as the OP to the game was well done considering it’s a PS2 title. But I’d be more than fine if AIC Asta did the animation for the Persona 4 fighter… though if ASW is making it, it’ll probably go to Gonzo. Grrr…
(So when do we get to the horny nurse and the trap again? Yes, there’s a trap in this.)
Persona 4 is definitely one of the last great JRPGs that I’ve played. Love the characters, plot, and battle mechanics. And nothing terrified me more than seeing two consecutive days of rain coming up in the weather forecast.
(Except maybe Kanji try hitting on you in the bathhouse.)
PER… SO… NA!
*unbuttons shirt while breathing heavily*
That unbuttoning scene has already reached memetic status.
I really, REALLY would like to see this dubbed with the original English VAs.
Or to at least change the Junes song to something that makes sense.
“Nothing like trying to decide between grinding strength or knowledge… like deciding to grind Yukiko, Chie, or Rise.”
Everyone grinds Rise, she’s the Love arcana.
Seems to be better than most game adaptations so far. All the little touches from the game are nice. I was expecting to be disappointed with their personafying a silent protagonist but turning him into Hosaka is a-ok in my book. Still, the only Persona 4 animation needed is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mUTQKMRLYQ.
… and people say I’m obsessed with traps. Ah well – time to see how the anime spins the OST, since I’ve heard they’re remixing parts of it.
It seems only those that have finished the game are enjoying the anime at the moment, with the rest confused or disregarding it due to how rushed and segmented the episode was. There were lots of things to like about the closeness of the adaptation, the music indeed being the best part of that, but they should have taken this episode to set the scene and establish the characters a little more.
If anything terrified me in this game it’s how gay Yosuke was for the protagonist.
Kanji in the bathhouse flirting with you is practically straight in comparison.
That will probably be taken care of in Ep 2, and subsequent episodes with the introduction of the other characters. Unfortunately, Ep 2 may end up a talking-heads episode because of this.
Here’s to hoping otherwise. I’m loving this adaptation so far, and “Pursuing My True Self” is the only way to begin Persona 4, game or anime.
“And he only brings like 1 piece of luggage even though he’s moving for over a year.”
That’s probably because they shipped the rest of the luggage out already, and the single pieces of luggage is for the last couple of days of where he was living before?
No posts for other episodes?? Episode 4 was kinda epic…
