An episode featuring lexicon and a ツンデレ rant by Taniguchi? I must admit… definitely in AoMM’s wheelhouse, kinda like asking Steve Buscemi to play a madman. Taniguchi did get it right that ツンデレ has evolved and was originally meant to portray a gradual change from the aloof to the cuddly. A classical example would be Motoko from Love Hina where as the beginning of the manga’s run, she was as anti-Keitaro as Sunrise is anti-logical-plot-construction. Then as the manga evolved, and due to her various confrontations with Keitaro, she warmed up to him to the point where she was writing trashy novels about how she stole him from Naru. That’s the proper evolutionary course of a classical ツンデレ… they must evolve.
However, this is a sorta of a bad definition as it is time variant and thus require people to follow an entire series and not make generalities that tend besiege C-list anime blogs like AoMM. Also, most people, I think, had trouble understanding it and applied it to just the general “hard on the outside, soft on the inside” character type. You can even read the tsundere discussion page on Wikipedia to see that it has much debate about who is and who isn’t a ツンデレ. (Best part has to be all the infighting about Haruhi. I can’t believe I enjoyed such a dumb thing so much.) I really don’t mind ツンデレ as having both meanings, as, Oharuhi-sama knows, English has many words that have multiple meanings. I do have a suggestion for an alternate term for what modernly is known as ツンデレ… what is “hard on the outside, soft on the inside”?
Well, for one thing, artery plaque deposits are hard on the outside, soft on the inside. These aren’t very moe and tend to be scary, so probably not a good meme.
How about teeth? They are a hard shell with a soft pulp inside? “Haruhi is a tooth!” Probably not. And I tend to think of LOL FANG-TAN more when it comes with dental work.
Bagels? Good ones are soft in the inside and have a crunchy outer shell. “Kagami is a delicious blueberry bagel.” Well, maybe not.
“Instead of picking Suzaku, Lulu should have picked that tasty red M&M Karen.” Better. M&M candy melts in your mouth, not in your hand. Plus it gives us a more appropriate term to describe a character who is hard on the outside, soft in the inside, but really, really hard in the side with Peanut M&M as in, “K1 made a mistake for falling for the creamy chocolate of Peanut M&M Shion and regretted it when he finally got to her hard, nutty core.” This could work.
I think ツンデレ is good enough. It’s a classic phrase like “ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US” and “jump the shark.” Why mess with it? But if you want an English equivalent, I’m tossing out M&M out there.
(But what about the opposite? Like a Ryoko Asakura who is soft and cuddly on the outside but extremely stabby and hardcore on the inside?)

A tossed up this poster almost a year ago. You know what? Still epic. But there’s been pretty much a new spread with every issue of Megami since then. I should do a Top Ten Haruhi Suzumiya Fold Out Posters but with the server as beat up as is, probably not a good idea.
Melonpan
Omega Self-Referencing of the Year! Is it just me, or did they put more effort in drawing model Mikuru than Tsukasa? Mikuru has a lot more lines and much more shading than Tsukasa… though it would be interesting to see Mikuru drawn in the Lucky Star style– it would have been a perfect storm of moe.
(I’m surprised that we didn’t get to see God Knows Haruhi. Maybe that one’s in her father’s room.)
Battletoads
So the first one was Keroro, the second is Tamama, that means that the third would have to be Giroro followed by Kululu then… mmm… I dunno, but the sixth one I would be hoping for Powered Natsumi.
Spike dies
I would guess that the cover is from Come Make My Day, since it’s one of the covers that I do not recognize (and it’s also the newest novel). Also, it supposedly marks the beginning of the end of the Full Metal Panic franchise… it is rumored that the 20th novel (the next one) will be the last, and I think events in Burning One Man Force helped set it in motion. Sagara tells Chidori that he loves her. You can grab translations and spoilers from Ravyn’s blog.

(Full Metal Panic ending is pretty crushing… though not sure if that, Keroro, ã‚ã‚ã£å¥³ç¥žã•ã¾ã£, or Haruhi‘s ending would be the crushingest. At gunpoint, I’d have to go with ã‚ã‚ã£å¥³ç¥žã•ã¾ã£ just because Belldandy fanboys are fearsome. I can picture a typical one heading out into the San Diego sun drinking milk or trying to draw Belldandy’s face on a volleyball after hearing how the series will end.)

(Another cute Tsukasa moment not involving a cellphone was when she was giddy watching Konata make that curry. Chopping veggies is a possible turn-on?)

I wonder if Kyoto will spin off a romantic harem comedy involving Taniguchi and Akira? I think that has some legs… we’d get a behind the scenes look at Akira (they could even do it a la VH1’s Behind the Music) that would be fascinating.
Delicious flat chest
I think Konata’s father is currently the leader in the clubroom for “most likely to end up on Dateline: To Catch a Predator.” I am kinda surprised that Kagami and Tsukasa weren’t terrified after that shrine maiden comment… and more surprised that they stuck around knowing Konata’s father may or may not mistake the situation for an H-game. Or maybe they’re just used to it because of Konata,

This series has really improved. I like the way the characters all go together, even with Miyuki appearing only occasionally. Provides a lot of good screenshots for 4ch too.

Hey. I’ve been a lurker here for some time but finally got motivated to comment about this. I can’t believe that didn’t get mentioned as an option for crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside! It fits so perfectly and there’s a comical advert to go with it!

The guy who could be an alternative of Kamina really looks likes Jouji Gouda from Akane Maniax. Lol they both have the same fiery passion too lol.
The scene of them looking at Konata’s Mom and dad together in the picture was really well done, it helps accentuate his character more and makes me believe that somewhere in the future Konata will find a photobook of a bunch of photos of loli’s where she will give him an epic “Good Job” and a thumbs up.

Konata’s dad is great. Guaranteed unanimous first ballot hall of famer. From the camera at the athletic festival, to his late-wife, to his H-game dreams! Legend.
And I know its just me, but the way Tsukasa blushed and said “Oto-san” when he asked her to help him with his cellphone made me melt. The fact that he asked Tsukasa and not Kagami as would be logical, leads me to believe there may be some fun in the tub going on.

I’ve tried a lot of anti-spam solutions, and this is by far the best. The image types discriminate against the vision impaired and cost a lot more CPU time. As someone who gets 100,000 comment spam a month, I’m pretty picky what anti-spam tools I use.
(BTW, if your comment gets moderated, do not keep sending it. That will piss off Akismet and probably get you moderated on other blogs as well. The mod queue gets e-mailed to me a few times a day, so it’s not like it’ll sit there for long.)

The annoying thing about the spam protection is that on half the comments I’ve made since the update I’ve just forgotten to fill the field in, and then had to retype what I said. Wouldn’t be hard to put something like that in, and no reason not to on the spam protection front, so laziness on someones part.
I came across a tag for the antithesis of tsundere while browsing danbooru back in the day. I think it was something like “yondere” maybe, but I’m probably wrong.

Also, Strato used ‘bipolar’ before, but I guess the term is more of a medical/two-faced condition than a hard/soft personality trait. I’d describe Akira as a bipolar than a tsundere, for example.

Seriously, Jason, you should take a break from surfing 4chan all the time.
And seconding the idea for an AoMM mascot. Maybe Tsukasa in a meido outfit? You could even make it a periodic thing, so you can swap it with Satoko in the coming months.
Finally, age to counter sage.
Its not the math, or the light shaded and small font that are easy to miss. Its the fact if you hit enter and something goes wrong and you need to go back; all your text will be gone. I know its possible to code a textbox to where it ‘remembers’ what you typed. I’ve seen that on a lot of forums and some other sites.
Its a very useful feature, because lots of things can happen to cause a post not to post. Just letting you know for future possible code improvements.
I third the idea of meido Tsukasa. Probably the best thing since, if not better than meido Mikuru.
