Doesn’t this remind you of Shirou and Saber from Fate/Stay Night, only with more books?

(The scenes where Keima acts manly… he acts manly. Seriously, if I only know back when I was 17 that playing eroges would train me to seduce various types of women from idols to librarians to reverse traps to astronomers to ramen girls to teachers to shogi champions… I would have played eroges instead of Final Fantasy Tactics, StarCraft, and Civilizations. Sigh.)

When the books were twirling around and surrounding Shiori, I kept thinking, “Damn, I can’t forget how badly JC Staff did Read or Die TV.” The OVA was just so awesome– a real anime competitor to X-Men… and then the TV series came around and became some typical insular anime plot coupled with sisterly bonding (in the K-On! sense). The only way it could have been worse is if they made one of the main characters a tsundere… at least we got some nudity…

(Needless to say, if only Keima could capture Yomiko Readman.)

Little Shiori is pretty cute. I wonder if she has an older brother.

So. Fucking. Adorable. I just loved the squeal. If I had a high-pitched, nasally voice I would do a Cousin Sal impression of Bill Simmons, only with Kana Hanazawa instead of Jaash Freeman. “Kana Hanazawa is just moe. Give her the top seiyuu award, the top fucking adorable voice award, the NFL MVP, and every award known to man. Kana Hanazawa took the cake and baked it for Shiori. She then scored ten fantasy points in her opening drive as Kuroneko. She is Larry Bird, Tom Brady, and David Ortiz all rolled up in one. She doesn’t need PEDs… her saliva is a natural PED! Kana Hanazawa wins football games!!!”

(If you don’t get what I wrote, you just don’t appreciate Jaash Freeman enough. And, yes, if I ever have a boy, I would definitely consider “Jaash” as a first name.)

(Also hilarious: the Ergo Proxy book. Come on, too easy of a self-reference for Manglobe. They should have done what Kyoto did and had a completely random book. Still disappointed Kyoto didn’t get to animate Mirai Nikki… I think it would have been ultra compelling and defining moment for them a la Haruhi Suzumiya. And, yeah, I would have loved a scene where Yuki sang “Fuwa Fuwa Time” to Yuno.)

(Also enjoying how TWGOK‘s Twitter feed currently has Shiori hiding behind a book as its avatar. But why isn’t their avatar a shiny, red fire truck?)

Barricading yourself in a library is pretty much a felony, I would think, after the clowns who shut down an LA freeway are probably going to Federal fuck-me-in-the-ass prison. Then again, they probably wouldn’t charge her with that… instead target her with a multinational arrest warrant, charge her with rape, and deny bail as she waited for extradition.

Indirect ki-su more impactful than a direct ki-su? I liked how Shiori brought so many lucky charms as part of her barricade plan… yet only one puny onigiri and one small bottle of tea. I probably would have stocked up on more water and food. And possibly brought some blankets, batteries, flashlights, and my iPad. But that’s just me.

My guess: Shiori’s writing involving her and Keima is probably juicier than Simon and Nia’s 7 days. You just know those mousy, quiet librarian types are also beasts when finally unleashed. Not that I know. I’m just speculating.

I’ve had a dream before where I was buried under a sea of books with a cute girl. I might have been the manga-ka for The World God Only Knows in a parallel dimension. Only in my version, Elsee wears a devil meido fuku.

You’d think that more people would notice that the library has been blocked off for the day and that someone would have reported to an authority figure by now. Or it just sad commentary on how people only go to libraries to rent DVDs these days. I’m leaning towards “sad commentary.”

Enjoyed Elsee complaining about all the “work” she has done. Isn’t this like the Republicans ramming the Bush tax cuts down our throats will proclaiming fiscal responsibility and a desire to cut the deceit?

Manglobe definitely dragged out this chapter a bit too much, but I’m all for more Shiori screen time. But I think they should have either compacted it into two episodes or put in a five minute Elsee shiny, red fire truck filler bit. But I enjoyed her arc– just the right amount of shyness, sweetness, and Keima capturing ability. Sadly, we’ll probably never see her return in anime form. Nonetheless, Shiori is quite sweet and cuddly, especially on a stack of books. Now there’s an argument against e-Readers. They just don’t give the same physical support and comfort that books do when you lie on them.
