xenosaga impressions

I really want to get back to playing the game, and that’s a good sign. One thing that I don’t like about the game is that the controls are exactly opposite in respect to the Final Fantasy and Suikoden series in terms of what the “yes” and “cancel” command buttons are. It really messes with my mind sometimes.
The plot is very deep and detailed, and there are a lot of cutscenes. A small fraction of them are KOS-MOS kicking butt and taking names, and I enjoyed these quite a bit.
Combat is fairly deep with the ability to mix it up with combo attacks (implemented via a Tekken-like button pressing system), A.G.W.S. mecha (like summons), and boost, which basically either breaks you out of an enemy combo or refills your tension gauge (I’m serious).
Out of the 8 hours or so that I’ve played so far, I’ve spent maybe 90 minutes in actual battle. This normally would not be a good thing, but the plot is just that compelling. Let me put it to you this way: people came over my house and actively choose not to play Guilty Gear X2 and instead watch me “play” Xenosaga for three hours.
Oh man, that sounds so good. I went to a buddy’s house last night so he could show me Xenosaga, but we ended up playing GGX2 all night. I heard that Xeno plays like watching a movie. Argh…I really want to play it now. Hahaha, boost gauge. That’s classic.
