Current Addictions:

Food: Taiwanese-style roasted peanuts. They taste different from Planter’s… not as salty or dry, and a lot more peanut flavor. I used to only be able to eat this when my parents visit Taiwan and bring me a bag full, but recently I discovered that the Ranch 99 at McCarthy Park carries it. A runner’s up would be Yoplait yogurt, but this is more of a “I bought a bunch at Costco and must eat before it spoils” type of thing.

TV: I don’t watch much TV outside of TechTV and sports programming, but recently I’ve been watching Cram on Game Show Network. It basically locks two teams (usually couples) away from 24 hours, deprive them of sleep, and give them ridiculous stuff to memorize, like DMX’s life history or various martial art poses. Part of the fun is watching the reality cam showing the breakdown of the contestant’s mentality– though, to be honest, I think they’re wusses. I went 72 hours without sleep and still managed to ace my final at the end of the 72 hour period. Runner’s up would go to Tour de France coverage since I think it’s amazing that anyone can finish the race four times in a row let alone win. Go Lance!

Manga: Duh! Nagasarete Airantou.

Games: Initial D Special Stage is probably the best anime-to-game example that I can think of. It’s an arcade style racer that’s really up my alley in that you can bump and crash as much as you want, and the upgrading/tweaking system is easy to understand. The game feels fast and really slick. It’s hard to put down. Runner’s up would be NBA Street. It’s a great party game, and I named my “Create a Player” Sol Badguy complete with a red tanktop and red sneakers. If only I can rename a dunk to be “The Gunflame”.

  1. NBA Street was pretty well done, but it failed to pass the Senbei 10 Minute Game Attention Span Test. ;P
