hayate manga licensed

I saw that Hayate the Combat Butler got picked up by VIZ. I just threw up in my mouth.

  1. Wow, I’m very surprised that it got picked up at all. I hope Viz does a good job with it, I like it so far.

  2. Yeah. When it was announced I was pretty sad. I can’t really source for English manga over here and with this licensing, I’ll have to say good bye to reading Hayate.

  3. ?

    *scratches head*

The premise of the story sounds cute enough, why the negative reaction? Did the Manga wasted its’ potential?

I think the reaction is not from the manga, but the new publisher, Viz.

  5. Honestly, it’s nice to see any manga licensed here in the states, but the only reason to not be “cautiously optimistic” is if Del Rey is publishing the manga.

Viz in particular has a nice history of screwing with licenses and I’m personally still pissed that they edited I”s, one of the best ecchi/pantsu/love triangle mangas around.

  6. ^what did they edit aside from some of the nudity? just wondering.

  7. Oh man, at first I thought you were talking about Hayate Cross Blade! Which I bought and can’t read… orz

  8. NOOO!

  9. wackedfoo: For the most part, just nudity. It’s the fact that a) they covered it up even though other publisher’s titles like Negima have nekkid loli’s on every other page and are doing just fine and b) they do asinine things like use star pasties over nipples.

  10. Sounds interesting, but given the publisher’s rep I’ll probabaly let judgement be passed first before grabbing a copy.

  11. Viz is one (if not the) worst publisher of manga in the US. They make Tokyopop look good.

My oharuhi-sama, if Viz covers up any Maria panty shots, I’m going to go on yet another killing spree.

  12. Shitty then. I guess I’ll just learn moonspeak.
