Mariya’s overflowing feelings. Quick! Someone get her a butcher’s knife, some boxcutters, and an aluminum baseball bat!

image

I guess in the previous episode, Mizuho got some action with Takako, which made Mariya a bit jealous now. Unfortunately, it’s more a Nayuki-style of jealousy rather than a Kaede-type of jealously, as she kinda just shies away from Mariya. Because of that inicident, Takako herself has changed into something more reminiscent of Love-Love Louise. Meanwhile, the big Christmas dance party is coming up…

… and, oh, yes, Mizuho’s cover is blown,

UP Mizuho… I don’t care anymore. Just shoot me. No way there’s a penis on this. None. I won’t accept it. To the bitter end.

image

UP Mariya… for introducing minor, trace amounts of tension into the proceedings. Though, I was disappointed that when Mizuho stripped Mariya, we were looking at a ceiling the whole time. Though I’m glad that Feel bumped up the frames per second to a solid 4 or 5 during the scene where Mizuho washes Mariya’s breasts. I think this sentence just caused a mass stampede to Tokyo Toshokan.

image

This episode was definitely a Mariya episode (about frickin’ time) as Mariya tries to deal with her feelings for Mizuho. Besides the sponge bath Mizuho gives Mariya, the two go on a date (Mizuho even wears pants) punctuated by a new Yui Sakakibara insert song… though this date more resembles a Sex and the City shopping spree than a Makoto x Yuuichi wedding. Ghost Girl even tosses out a “They look like a couple!” It ends with Mariya and Mizuho having a playful moment in public:

image

“Mariya is Mariya. My feelings for you haven’t changed. Is that strange?”

“I see… we’ve always been together since childhood.”

“Mariya…”

Gomen. Just for this moment, I want to go back to how it was before…”

Can you imagine walking along the park and suddenly saw the two all over each other, especially with Mizuho looking like the “butch”?

image

UP Takako… I don’t recognize her. It’s like they secretly replaced my morning coffee with Folger’s Original. Considering that I skipped 8, 9, and half of 10, yep, I don’t recognize her at all. She’s now 99.9% デレデレ and 0.1% ツンツン especially after Mizuho agreed to be her date for the party. And, then at the end, when Mizuho fends off the yakuza (seriously, a Sunrise moment for this series) and slices off Mizuho’s left breast, yep, she learns the truth. Finally! The gender confusion issue returns… like six episodes too late.

image

DOWN Yakuza… seriously, talk about random out-of-nowhere plot line. I also can’t believe that Mizuho kicked the crap out of them. Generally, if you’re like 5 feet 6 and weigh 130 pounds, you’re not going to beat up two goons who are 6 inches and 100 pounds heavier (and they have weapons). This tomfoolery is what I hated about the recent Mission: Impossible… Tom Cruise is really short and tiny, yet he’s depicted as being able to beat up military types and other presumably trained agents much larger than him with a single punch on a consistent basis. Ain’t gonna happen. Even if he knows kung-fu. Same here with Mizuho-oneesama… but since we’re talking about an anime about a “boy” pretending to be a “girl” for no apparent reason (in the anime at least, Mizuho’s not getting money for doing this), I’ll let Mizuho-oneesama’s l33t hand-to-hand battle tactics slide.

DOWN Bird flu… a lot of people think masks will help contain/prevent the flu. Well, that maybe true, but the most effective way to stopping the flu is simple: wash your hands. Washing your hands (and not touching your face/ears with unclean hands) can prevent most flu germs from spreading. Also helpful are getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and eating right (such as including power foods like blueberries and tea into one’s diet).

DOWN One episode left… Otome wa Boku had a lot of potential, and I’m glad to see it finally using its gender confusion to create some tension. Unfortunately, it’s at the end of the series. I think I said the same thing about Mai Otome… OTL.

  1. I’m soo sad…. I’m soo sad…
Please, somebody shoot me on the head…
Now is up to Takako to make her decision…

  2. Just imagine the awkward feelings us viewers would have if they made Yin-Yang X-Change Alternative into an anime.

  3. Hey, it’s episode 11 and Jason hasn’t scream “Threesome!” XD

Well, one episode left, plus the DVD-only one; this show has been quite fun. Altough I wished we had Jason’s insight in eps 9 and 10.. oh well.

I hope for a Mariya ending, but it seems almost impossible now; Takako is OK in dere-dere mode, but still…

I just hate how Mizuho is now insensitive to Mariya’s nakedness, due to her flirty nature. In any case, he should have grabbed, grabbed, grabbed!

  4. Well I have to say I like Takako because it was developing slowly over time as Mariya was kinda of a “up and down” with episodes 4,5,10 and 11 with her displaying romatic feelings of hints of such feelings towards Mizuho but Takako moving from “enemy” to “Love” since she was introduced.

A pity about Shion that was left in the dust … even the lolis end up getting more screen presence that Shion and looking back at episode 1 I was certainly not expecting so little screen time.

  5. Dang the subs are so far behind now, still Kung Fu Fighting and Mariya using Kaede tactics…only to eschew the weapons of unrequited love.

Well here’s to Shion picking up the pieces of Mariya once a new financial juggernaut is consumated. Though there is the possiblity of an Ellis upset in the final minutes, at least Takako has one megane yuri fan in reserve.

    >>Mizuho… I don’t care anymore. Just shoot me. No way there’s a penis on this. None. I won’t accept it. To the bitter end.

Will this hold up to and after the post mortem? There will be a post mortem yes?

  6. I see you got my message, Jason. ;)

Although, I must admit, given Mizuho’s figure so far… that’s a surprisingly manly (albeit tightly-muscled) chest, given that he shows few other apparently masculine physical traits in the anime. Still, if there was any way to reveal the truth to Takako and possibly the right of the school, I guess Yakuza kobun are as good a way to do it as any, especially as it emphasizes Mizuho’s chivalrous nature, which has been shown again and again.

And yeah, I do wonder if this means there’ll be a Romeo & Juliet-type relationship blossoming between the two companies, or if it’ll end in an orgy of violence, poison, and death. Me? I’ve voiced my thoughts on the Random Curiousity post on the subject.

  7. Way to go Jason, way to go…

Like I said before, please don’t give us a bullshit ending like Kashimashi (I don’t hate that much the Hazumu/Tomari ending, Yasuna acting like she was fine with her of walk alone made me feel sick). Lets go for a Takako ending and then… in episode 13, a happy day… no more, no less.

  8. Syaoran: I had less of a problem with the fact it was a Tomari ending, so much as the way it happened, especially it appeared he’d chosen Yasuna in order to ‘cure her condition’, and then she suddenly shows absolutely no jealousy whatsoever. Now, if they’d explained that those two had broken up amicably, then I could understand… but no such development was shown or talked about.

  9. Dear Jace,

Thank you for the tips about avoiding bird flu. It’s a real help and it will save a lot of lives.
But about your review… meh. :P

(Just kidding. Mizuho + Aikido = Combat Trap ftw)

    -meganeshounen

  10. Actually Jason, they’ve already announced an OVA episode with the DVD releases. Hopefully that’ll just be an extra and not contain the resolution (as Kasimasi did), but we’ll see.

  11. Mizuho the Combat Butler, anyone?

  12. Can you imagine walking along the park and suddenly saw the two all over each other, especially with Mizuho looking like the “butch”?

    *fap*

Speaking of fapping I just went over to Kurogane’s blog and informed him, that because of his famous maxim, I am now “worried”.

Oh yeah, Judy Garland At Carnegie Hall is on sale on Amazon for only $11.99, useful now for all of us that believed Jason’s assertion of No way there’s a penis on this and followed Kurogane’s “advice”. Oh, and we can also get Broadway tickets cheaper if we buy as a group.

  13. Don’t worry Baka-kun, in this matter “You’ll never walk alone…”

I was sure about Mizuho being a guy, but follow the show anyway, as the same thing I did with Strawberry Eggs. Now everything is in hands of Takako; if she choose to love him or hate him for what he has done.

  14. So the bastard rejected Mariya? Man the childhood friend curse strikes again.
I am so tired of the childhood friend being used a cannon fodder. The same thing seems to be happening in Kubiki, but in that case it is childhood friend vs childhood friend so it kind of works.

  15. >>I think this sentence just caused a mass stampede to Tokyo Toshokan.

I can`t count how many animes you made me watch.

    >>Even if he knows kung-fu.
Enough to beat any boss of King of Fighters. Might need lots of continues though.

    >>wash your hands.
There are days where you happen to be careless. It`s called “the day where I happen to be careless”. Go on, try fighting fate if you will.

  16. >> So the bastard rejected Mariya? Man the childhood friend curse strikes again.

I don’t think it’s he rejected Mariya so much as that he doesn’t seem really interested in anyone save Shion, and that one’s a SLIGHT interest at best. The problem here is that Mariya’s always been teasing and taunting him in what I’d almost call a boyish fashion (girls in my experience tended to put in a bit more ‘dere dere’ when they liked a guy, whereas Mariya’s always been ‘tsun-tsun’ to an extreme, and more so as the series went on)… so of course he doesn’t see her that way – he sees her as Mariya.

Look at his utter lack of reaction to her naked body; he’s probably desensitized to it by now, she acts so much like a ‘boy’ around him (more so than he’s acted, if I’m reading between the lines right). At this point, it’s a little too late to have him suddenly change course, whereas at least Hazumu from the Series-That-Should-Not-Be-Named at least had moments of liking Tomari in the past and present.

  17. You mean Kashimashi?

I was actually hoping she ended up with the spaceship … alas no such luck.

  18. As I said, the ‘Series-That-Should-Not-Be-Named’; the ending made absolutely no sense… and the sudden transition didn’t do much for me either. And at least there, Hazumu had signs of liking Tomari, way back when… although here, every time we’ve seen their flashbacks, there haven’t been that type of reaction, so a Mariya ending’s very unlikely.

  19. Bird flu? Looks more like “She’s your father, Luke” kind of scene to me.

  20. >> And yeah, I do wonder if this means there’ll be a Romeo & Juliet-type relationship blossoming between the two companies

Plot-like substance in my Mizuho-fanservice-fest? DO NOT WANT. (All I ask for Otome wa Boku is fanservice and comedy. I don’t really care for anything deeper than that, just like how I wouldn’t want to mix angst drama with MKM.)

    >> I can`t count how many animes you made me watch.

Awesome. Corrupting the world’s youth, one mind at a time.

    >> Will this hold up to and after the post mortem?

I hope so. I hope so.

    >> Hey, it’s episode 11 and Jason hasn’t scream “Threesome!” XD

I must be slipping. Either that or I’ve been threesome’d out by Kanon’s possibilites… Ayu and Nayu? Mai and Sayuri? Kaori and Shiori?

    >> Oh yeah, Judy Garland At Carnegie Hall is on sale on Amazon for only $11.99, useful now for all of us that believed Jason’s assertion of No way there’s a penis on this and followed Kurogane’s “advice”.

    Yep, these are my readers.

  21. >> Will this hold up to and after the post mortem? There will be a post mortem yes?

Hopefully it will also feature a photograph of Jason with his newly-bought Mizuho pillow. And we will be drowning in jealousy.

    >> Lets go for a Takako ending and then… in episode 13, a happy day… no more, no less.

The only happy ending for me is where Mizuho uses magic to permanently transform himself into a girl. Only to have an orgy with all the other girls. Surely his grandfather will be watching this… from his throne in HELL.

  22. >> And we will be drowning in jealousy preparing our boxcutters.

    Fixed.

  23. Just a WILD guess. I just watched this episode and I’m expecting that in the next episode, the dance party will trigger an important event in Shion route. If that is true, than it’s Shion ending. Otherwise, I still root for Takako!

  24. Actually … there is a Takako/Mizuho/Kimie threesome on the game acording to some images I seen but it sems to be just dream (I guess of Kimie).

Also Hisako and Michiko seem to having something going on.

  25. I think i mentioned in the first page of the Random Curiousity post that I expected you to scream “threesome” by now. Mariya and Ichiko probably… wouldn’t mind, would they?

    Yes, we’re your readers.

  26. So did Mizuho and Mariya have sex?

  27. Only in one of the game paths. Here, Mizuho just tried to ease Mariya’s fever through a sponge bath or something.. and showed absolutely NO reaction to her as a girl.

Which tells you how long they’ve been hanging out together, and how much she’s downplayed any attraction to him, else he’d have done more blushing.

  28. There was a link to post to some pix from the game.
They showed Mizuho wearing a strap-on. At least thats what I saw.
