higurashi no naku koro ni 11 (tatari goroshi-hen 3)

Man, this arc is just doing nothin’ for me!
(Yes, that’s the actual manga for Tatari Goroshi-hen right before Rena whacks the two of them. I’m enjoying the manga quite a bit… fleshes out things more than the anime. Plus a lot more melonpan.)
Aftermath of Satoko’s meltdown the prior episode. K1 can’t bear to see Satoko like this, so the logical course of action would be…
He’s going to kill Satoko’s uncle!?! What the!?! Am I watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni or am I watching Jigoku Shonen?
K1 asks his mom about “how to commit the perfect crime.” Oh wow, having to ask mommy for help now? Not good… top tier villians don’t need their mommy’s help.
(Most competent anime villian? Lacus. Second place would be Kenshin‘s Shishio for his plan to take down Kenshin. Least competent anime villian? Team Rocket.)
Batter up!
Oh boy. I know exactly where this is going. Like the first arc, K1 is going to become Satoshi again. Is Higurashi any fun if K1 is doing non-drug induced murdering? I say no. I’d much rather see Rena butcher K1.
K1 looks a bit too happy planning for Satoko’s uncle’s murder. Either that, or he’s applying for a job with the yakuza… beat guy with bat; bury guy in forest. If he really wanted not to get caught, he needs a better plan.
K1 calls Mion and asks her to take Satoko to the Watanagashi festival. Serves two purposes, the first is that I like seeing Mion. The second is that Mion tells him that he’s behaving like Satoshi. Uh oh. Actually, I take that back… isn’t it a good thing? Didn’t the last time he get a kiss?
K1 knows that this course of action is probably what Satoshi did, yet it further emboldens his plan. He’s not having second thoughts like, “Well, maybe I should go to the Watanagashi festival… killing Satoko’s uncle can wait for another day.” Or, better yet, “Well, maybe I should collect evidence of abuse and forward that to the police.”
Out of the normal cast, only K1 and Mion have any dialogue in this episode. Warrents mentioning. First they try to save costs by not changing costumes for the characters (K1 still has that haardo gay red vest), now they’re trying to save production costs by not having more seiyuu work. If there’s any anime series that badly needed a beach fanservice episode, it’s this one. I’m still reeling from the fact that they showed off Angel Mort Shion last month, and we haven’t seen that costume since. This would never have happened if Kyoto Animation were in charge… we’d be having Rena costume rape Mion as we speak, right before the two of them go at it a la Herc and Archer.
The next day, the festival is here, and K1 spends his time digging a whole. During which, we see flashbacks to K1’s past which kinda explain why he’s here. How is this relevant to the story? I have no clue. My favorite part is when the teacher-type person called K1 “atama ga ii” (smart) just because he’s anything but smart in Higurashi. No man who passes up with threesome for a hammer to the head deserves to be called “smart.”
With the episode focusing on emo K1, I’m losing interest. Until K1 tosses out a random, “sou… higurashi no naku koro ni… zenbu!” I love it when an anime uses its own name as dialogue. My previous favorite has to be Yurie-sama’s “KA-MI-CHU!” Can you imagine Kira Yamato shouting… “GUNDAM… *dramatic pause* SEEEEEEEED!” each time he launched with Freedom?
K1 calls Satoko’s uncle out pretending that the police have Satoko. Lame. I would have suggested the, “Congratulations, this is KBBL Hinamizawa, and you have won a BMW! However, you must go to our station in the next thirty minutes to claim your prize, or else we call someone else!”
Hey, it’s Onizuka!
K1 emo facial distortion just doesn’t have the same impact Rena’s has. Especially since Rena and Mion were unpredictable… K1 is anything but.
“Ikimasu!”
Basically, let me summarize the plot. Rika goes “bou bou,” Satoko cooks him dinner, and then he notices a few bruises on Satoko. This would logically cause any man to beat up her aggressor. Of course not! Rational people don’t solve their problems with murder. Even Mion and Rena, accomplished murderers, are staying away. How did K1 become like this? Oyashiro-sama baiting. He wouldn’t have thought of this if Satoko was fine, but Satoko seemed to be under Oyashiro-sama’s influence the previous episode (as Rena in the first arc). Maybe Oyashiro-sama wanted Satoko’s uncle’s blood, and this is how Oyashiro-sama goes about extracting it.
K1 is a pawn. Again. At least Kyon is rising up in the ranks.
K1 goes into a murderin’ tie with Mion! K1 so far has killed Mion, Rena, Satoko’s uncle, and himself. Mion has only killed Rika, Satoko, K1, and Shion. 11 episodes in, would you have guessed that K1 would kill more than Rena? Me neither.
K1 is more scary than delightful.
A few tips for K1 on how to cover up murders… CSI wouldn’t even need 15 minutes to figure this out right now. First, kill the dude with the shovel. That way you don’t have to waste time fetching the shovel. Second, don’t toss the murder weapon away near the crime scene. (I loved how there’s a random marsh right nearby.) Third, a body that shallow, a good police dog will find that. Lastly, don’t leave your bike, muddy footprints, tire tracks, or any other evidence (hint: shave your head behind) behind.
K1 is getting off on killing someone. Disturbing. The exact opposite of the first 15 minutes of End of Evangelion.
He runs into Takano, and he suddenly twists his ankle or something to that effect.
She is incredibly perceptive and blows his story sky high. Come to think of it, if you butcher someone that badly with a bat, wouldn’t you get blood stains on your clothes? Blood was gushing earlier, yet K1 seems clean as a whistle.
Takano traps K1 with his own words… she should be working for the police instead of being a nurse… only she’s a killer.
When she said, “My trunk is full,” you know that’s Tomitake’s body in there. This begs the question… when Takano was small and growing up, was she the original omega killer loli?
Drops the “So, did you bury the body well” bomb on K1. Both Takano and Dr Irie work together and are mightily suspicious. How are they connected, and why would she kill Tomitake for any reason other than he’s a crappy photographer?
This arc has been brutal. Desperately needs a killer (every sense of the word) final episode to really dig it out of its grave. I didn’t enjoy the abuse angle. I’m not enjoying the K1-centric storyline where he’s the killer loli. I most definitely am not enjoying the overall lack of Rena, Mion, and Shion in this arc. It’s like making an episode of Black Lagoon without any Revy… what’s the point?
Nonetheless, I’m finding solace in the highly enjoyable manga. Much better art than the anime, as well as more sexual innuendo along with plenty of K1 cross dressing as part of penalty games. Here’s some more images from the manga…
Satoko here in her moving, “I’m okay… [my current] nii-nii… really… I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
Takano’s awesome. Needs a flashback to her earlier killer loli days.
K1 in killer mode; NO way
It’s funny, K1 being the one who has murdered more people in this series; and then you know he always will die at the end of every ARC. Now I’m curious about how this crappy arc is going to end (K1 dead again for sure) and maybe Satoko.
One question if I may ask. After a few hints over this arc; Satoshi was the one who abuse Satoko right? Damn it! Damn it!
I hope the next arc surpass this one!
>>>(I loved how there’s a random marsh right nearby.)
Actually, I think this is the swamp where the shrine wife (rika’s mother)supposedly drowned the third year after the dam incident. So it wouldn’t be so random.
But I have to agree with this being a little off key compared to the other arcs. I hope they get it back on track, if not in this arc at least on the next one.
I hope you won’t stop blogging about Higurashi just because a bad arc (if this turns out to be it).
To be fair, I think what the flashbacks were trying to point out is that while K1 may be good with book-learning, he’s pretty dumb when comes to practical, real-world things. This would definitely explain why he’s strongly in the running for Stupidest Male Protagonist Ever. I only hope the next arc is full of cute Rika-chan… or more cross-dressing K1. I have to get my hands on this manga now…
>>Basically, let me summarize the plot. Rika goes “bou bou,†Satoko cooks him dinner, and then he notices a few bruises on Satoko. This would logically cause any man to beat up her aggressor. Of course not! Rational people don’t solve their problems with murder.
Ah, but when has this lemming been rational? He got him self nailed two time already I son’t expect him to be rational. Looking at the human race how much of it is rational? The longer I live the more I get the sense that death solves all problems-no man, no problem. At least he lemming did something this time round.
I am also dissapointed in he ensuing struggle watching K1 win so easily was boring. He also lackas a solid alibi and Mion can be used to testify against him. If you’re gonna kill do it right.
I wonder how this lackluster arc inspired the whole Suki Suki Satoko faction.
I want more killer lolis! RAWR
COME,MY PRECIOUS LITTLE HUMANS! COME TO ME, I WILL GIVE YOU ETERNAL HAPPINESS!
Hmmm, somehow, i feel attracted to killer loli k1….i would let him hit me everytime.
But you know… I think K1 really is a smart boy in every aspect, but at the same time is too clueless and hopeless; if he want to save Satoko from his uncle, c’mon, make a beeter plan than killing him… u_u mattaku
If you would excuse me, I have a date with a football game
Half time, Italy 1-1 USA
Am i the only one who thinks that k1 is cool??
and that he shouldnt die??
Cuz hes my favourite character.
No you’re not. He’s number one on the character polls for a reason.
but as far as i can read nobody here likes him especially our blogwriter here.
I found myself grinning whole episode after Kai said that he kills Satoko’s uncle.
…Agreed, K1 doesn’t seem all that smart to me. He can’t even figure out what makes a crime perfect on his own, let alone carry it out… K1, you suck at being a killer loli.
I think AoMM is getting a bit too sexually obsessed. A show can be good without the killer (female) lolis, right? Sure, Higurashi frequently makes no sense and the art is so-so, but it does excel at creating atmosphere. After reading this blog, I’m beginning to understand how entrenched all these anime cliches are in the fanbase. Of course, familiarity with these very cliches is part of the charm of AoMM.
“K1 is highly intelligent. Not so much when it comes to abstract logic, but he’s very good with practical situations.” Good, well-needed laugh there.
Here’s my problem with this show at this point. Over what, exactly, are we supposed to be pondering these days? “Who’s behind all these deaths?” should be a series-driving question, but Mion claimed full credit there last arc. I think “Is there really any possession going on?” is a safe bet too. “What’s the story with Satoshi?” has been foreshadowed to death (they even dropped some heavy hints back in the first arc, check out Satoko’s expression when K1 first grabs the bat). Just what is left to drive the series now? The creativity of future K1 deaths? Those get previewed. How messed up the 4th girl is going to turn out to be? That only gets us through the next arc. There’s a serious hook deficiency at hand here.
>>I think AoMM is getting a bit too sexually obsessed. A show can be good without the killer (female) lolis, right?
If I had to watch something for a long time, I’d rather watch Rena/Mion/Shion/Rika/Satoko rather than K1. =(
Haardo gay just doesn’t cut it for me. ^^;;
>>Here’s my problem with this show at this point. Over what, exactly, are we supposed to be pondering these days?
The big question you should be asking is “Why are there several versions of the same world but with different outcomes?”
The next arc will be about Rika. Then after that we get into the Answer chapters.
>> COME,MY PRECIOUS LITTLE HUMANS! COME TO ME, I WILL GIVE YOU ETERNAL HAPPINESS!
You got the wrong name. Belldandy was the one sayin’ that a few episodes before.
>> but as far as i can read nobody here likes him especially our blogwriter here.
I don’t like Shinji Ikari either.
>> I think AoMM is getting a bit too sexually obsessed.
I see someone missed out on AoMM’s (or Toybox’s) La Verite days. Ah… good times, good times.
I know people are having problems with the anime version of Higurashi, it’s just that it tried to show most of the scenario of the game while cutting out the important parts leaving only horror or suspence parts. Manga is closer to the game than in the anime, and Keiichi doesn’t seems as stupid as he is in the anime. Anyways next arc acts as a prequel to the other arcs, so Keiichi is not the main character.
I hope you’re okay with me asking, but where are you getting these translated manga scans? Or are you translating them yourself? I saw a site for the scanlation of Higurashi, but they were only at chapter 1.
Adding onto what a few people say, not only is he not as stupid, but apparently actually comes off as quite selfless and even heroic in several arcs.
>> I hope you’re okay with me asking, but where are you getting these translated manga scans?
Higurashi Translation Project is up to chapter 2 now!
For someone who sounds disappointed by this anime arc, you sure put a lot of screenshots up, especially of Keiichi’s emo face. Either you subconsciously like what you watch and you don’t realize it, or like the anime, you’re hinting that what you say may not necessarily be what you mean.

…from this post, and also from my decades of experience in psychology, I infer that you are subconsciously gay for Oishi.
It’s interesting to note that I heard this arch actually consists of a whopping 5 episodes instead of the usual 4. I wonder if it will pick up.
I think it’ll pick up by the next arc… they can’t really get any worse than Satoko-abuse and K1 as the killer loli. I think…
Anyways, hopefully the focus will be shifted to Rika next, yay. I wonder what her murder/torture weapon of choice is? (Hey… we still haven’t found out what Satoko’s is yet…)
I don’t think that this arc will be much improved by the possibility of a fifth ep… where’d you hear that anyway?
I hear that the answer section of Higurashi is going to be split into 2 arcs.. I wonder how that’s gunna work.
PS: I agree with Moo. ^^
This arc doesn’t need to pick up any more, it’s already the best arc so for, so sayeth someone who didn’t watch just for the killer lolis.
^ I think Satako uses a baseball bat as her weapon of choice, but I’m not sure as that’s K1-Steaksauce’s weapon. Rika uses the hoe I believe *snickers immaturely*. Also, what’s the male equivalent to Loli? Shoto or something like that? That’s what K1 is being in this chapter. Oh, and can you picture Rika going psychololi in the next chapter?
Rika: “Nii nii, I’m going to rip rip your hearty heart out with my hoe hoe. Bou Bou, woo woo. ^ – ^ Chu chu!”
K1: “….Aww, she’s so cute.”
Rika: “Seriosly…”
K1: “….”
Rika: “….”
Though one thing bugs me about Rika. In the intro sequence, she pulls off the fox mask. Do some research on foxes in Japan, they’re like coyotes in the states, trickster spirits or spirits of deciet. I think her pulling off the mask is the unmasking of the ture villain or something.
I don’t know, personally I enjoyed this arc as much as the others. I pay very little attention to the “killer lolis” and sexual innuendo, which I think are really just there to distract you from the underlying tension and create a surreal, peaceful scene when you know something bad is really going on.
Wow…I just saw Episode 12. Looks like 13 will wrap up the saga for sure. Get ready for another mindf****!
Ah man i want to watch episode 19-26. ive seen all the rest just not those
