What a ride. Like a roller coaster, I’m a bit whoozy after it all.

Greatest sequence in this series has to be Kyon describing Haruhi’s changing hairstyles. So incredibly funny and what signaled to me that SHnY wasn’t going to be your run of the mill anime. That’d make a good post/poll wouldn’t it? Favorite Haruhi scene/moment. – zero

There are a lot of awesome and memorable quotes from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I’m thinking of compiling a quote index when I get some time… if you guys can spare some time and help me out, suggest quotes along with the episode from which it came from. Thanks. (My personal favorite is still Haruhi’s “healthy girl” rant. If I had to sum up the series with one paragraph, I’d just copy and paste that quote. Mikuru’s screams when costume raped would be in the top five.)

Personally, my favorite thing about this episode was Haruhi’s reaction to the giant monsters. “Look Kyon! Space monsters/Ancient Bioweapons are destroying the city! This. Is so. Frelling. AWESOME!” (paraphrased somewhat) – Googleshng

I still liked Haruhi’s “baka ja nai no!!!” after Kyon talks about ponytails. That, my friends, is pure, 100%, organic, all natural, no preservative tsundere.

You mean have Kyon and Haruhi run to school in the morning, only he plows into new exchange student Mikuru (who is chomping on some toast), sees her panties, and has Really Pissed Off Haruhi to deal with for the rest of the day?

Actually, I think CCC’s assigning of roles is really dead on. Kyon::Shinji (dragged along by the events), Haruhi::Asuka (tsudere), Yuki::Rei (clones of each other), All-Woman Mikuru::Misato (hawtness), Itsuki::Kaoru (gay friend), but I’d make Imouto::Pen-Pen and LOL FANG-TANG::Three Magi, just to get the computers to hysterically break out in laughter each time Misato’s “chance for success” calculation comes back as 0.001%. But that’s just me.

The vocal albums are out btw. I’m not too sure what to say about them. – Korockid

I liked Aya Hirano’s, but Yuki’s seiyuu singing… it caught me off guard. I can’t imagine Yuki singing. Doesn’t fit her. It’s like Steve Kerr rapping or David Hasselhoff pretending he’s younger than 40. I’d prefer an LOL FANG-TAN CD that’s just 74 minutes of her laughing… or maybe an Itsuki and Kyon duet album for the fangirls.

(I’m not sure if I like the Hoff video or the Kerr video more… one has KITT, the other has free throw shooting footage… tough, tough choice. Almost as difficult as Nurse Mikuru vs Combat Waitress Mikuru.)

I think the outfit is a lot hawter with all the accessories. If she didn’t have them, it’ll just be an ugly brown single piece swimsuit with stockings.

I can’t imagine how Kyon could just sit there playing Othello when beside him is a girl in bunny costume braiding a whimpering maid. Me and my friend couldn’t really decide that the line “Actually… ponytails turn me on,”was altered from the original for a comedic purpose (and a sneaky reference to FMP: Fumouffuu). – Xeifa

Glad someone asked this. When I left for vacation, I was planning to make a prank post, “Funimation announces Haruhi Suzumiya license at AX.” I decided against it and tossed up that wallpaper post, since joking about this would be bad karma… and Funimation may actually license it and put Naruto trailers on the DVD. I’m hoping for Geneon… just because they’re bound to include some sort of Mikuru-run bonus item with their boxsets. Also, it gives the show a 0.01% chance of getting shown on some cable channel (perfect for AU on G4). I’d love to see it aired on TV in the states.

(With the rumors of E7 and IGPX bombing, yes, contrived shows don’t do well here… then again, Paranoia Agent didn’t do well either so far off shows aren’t much better. Still, Betterman and Crest of the Stars did pretty good on Anime Unleased, one of the few survivors from the old TechTV. I can see Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya thriving there.)

There is an Anime most moe tournament going on in japan right now, i think its from july 5th all the way to october, which is the battle of all moe characters through out this summer. So far SOS dan members are dominating. – Onibaku

I was watching (against my will) Things I Like About You, and the token black guy on the show kept saying “lesbionic.” I have no idea what this word means. I’m really off-topic. Anyway, fangirls are scary.

i’m still confused about All Woman Mikuru’s clue back in episode 10. She gave the hint “Snow White.” I thought that would be brought up this episode, but it apparently has been changed to “Sleeping Beauty” by Yuki. Production error? I’m confused. – kei-clone

It’s correct. Two different people gave Kyon the same hint two ways. Both fairy tales involve a prince kissing a sleeping princess to wake her up.

(Though I still like Full Metal Panic‘s parody of Cinderrella when Sagara becomes Chidori’s fairy godmother armed with bazookas, grenades, and everything. They could do a similar thing with Haruhi as Mikuru’s fairy godmother and having Haruhi costume rape Mikuru into various outfits: pumpkin, princess, meido, etc. Mikuru meets Kyon at the ball, but before she has to leave at midnight, and she accidentially loses her meido bonnet behind, and then Kyon goes out looking for the fit for the bonnet. Only before he gets to Mikuru’s house, Godmother Haruhi pops up and forces Kyon to go film a movie with her. This could work…)

Now we just need more Adult Mikuru, and some Alternate Yuki, to get things rolling for whatever following seasons or OVAs may appear in the future. – Haesslich

Hoping for a Detective Conan-type of run for Haruhi… 450+ episodes, 10+ movies, etc. Nagaru Tanigawa needs to start cracking on more chapters. Anyone know his/her address so I can ship some caffine pills over there?

As Poke pointed out, I think she’s an alien as well. In league with Yuki to bring some excitement into Haruhi’s life, just like what Itsuki did with Remote Island Syndrome. I’m hoping that Mikuru flirting with Kyon is her way of inciting Haruhi…

All you need to know about anime OPs is the original opening to ああっ女神さまっ OVA where they show like Mara and Senbei and other characters… and they never make it into the series. Or Mai Otome, which showed “Mai”… who didn’t show up until the show was beyond repair. The worst offender is probably Gundam Seed where they give out major plot points in the OP like ten episodes too early.

This is ridiculously true! I can see Haruhi bitching at Kyon about little things, but in the end sucumming to Kyon’s cynical nature. Not to mention Kyon constantly pushing his rational onto Haruhi. Although I don’t see Kyon blurting out, “Haruhi, why don’t you be a woman and cook,” unless he wants some to do the nasty with her a la Adam and Eve. – deftoned

I think if Kyon told Haruhi to shut up and cook, it would end the world ten times over. Still, if it eventually leads to Haruhi starring in a movie about strippers, I’m all for it. She even has the bunny girl waitress outfit ready.

Is there some sort of cultural significance to the synchronized brushing? They also did it in the Read or Die series and (I think) in Evangelion as well… I’m beginning to think this is a particular way to establish closeness between characters–it happens in Eva only after the team gets to know each other and it happens in ROD as sort of a way to establish the special bond between the paper sisters. Are they going for the same thing between Kyon and his duffel-dwelling companion? – Av4rice

I’d rather see synchronized brushing between Imouto and Mikuru, which could redefine “kawaii” as we know it. The kawaii meter would so totaled, I won’t even be able to return it back for a 30 day refund.

Imouto-san has different eye color than Mikuru, so I doubt she grows up into Mikuru… but it’s possible she can be Haruhi and Kyon’s love child, as Komidol nicely illustrates. I just love how Imouto-san and Kyon don’t have real names… and I noticed that their house doesn’t have a nameplate out front. Also, Itsuki and LOL FANG-TAN don’t have full names either. Keeps some mystery in the show; it would be hilarious if it turned out that Kyon and Imouto’s family name was really é•·é–€.

As for Imouto-san, she borrowed the scissors for her killer loli guest appearance in Higurashi! I bet she was the one who knocked off Rika-chan at the temple in episode 13. – Fat Cat Lim

Best. Theory. Ever. I think it would be great if Detective Haruhi and Assistant Kyon travelled back to Hinamizawa and tried to solve the Oyashiro-sama curse. I can imagine Haruhi finding the Oyashiro torture room and ranting on, “What is this silly curse? I see a room filled with movie props. It’s probably a figment of their primitive imaginations. Trying to get me excited about some pranks. It’s probably like those crop circles. Kyon! Are you listening?” *silence* “So what costume should Mikuru try next?”

I had to watch the opening scene several times, because I was too transfixed on imouto-san hopping and tuggin on Kyon to pay attention to what Kyon was saying (I watched the scene 15 times now: I still don’t know what Kyon said in the opening scene). – Xeifa
