There she is, Elder-oneesama
There she is, your ideal
The dream of a million girls who are more than pretty can come true
in Seiou Academy
For she may turn out to be the Queen of femininity

(-10 masculinity points if you know where these lyrics originally came from.)

In an absolutely silly plot worthy of Strawberry Panic, the girls of Seiou Academy elect an Elder. This elected Elder basically… well… I’m not sure what she does beyond “present the image of the ideal woman of the academy” and is called “oneesama” by everyone. So, of course, everyone conspires to vote the man as Elder. At least they didn’t vote in Screech. (Episode “Miss Bayside,” original air date 10/27/1990, where Zach tries to get Screech elected Miss Bayside, much to Kelly’s and Jessie’s dismay. The internet is a scary place.)

Watching Mizuho squirm as all the girls flutter around her kept my interest going during this episode, especially with the lack of fanservice.

UP Mizuho-oneesama… I don’t care anymore. Just shoot me. No way there’s a penis on this. None. I won’t accept it. (And, if there is one, cut it off.)

Let me put it this way… if your dead relative wrote in their will a provision asking you, a boy, to attend an all girls school and pretend to be a girl– shave legs, electrolysis on the facial hair (since six o’clock stubble is a dead givaway), and get implants (since I don’t think this is a simple stuffing), would you do it? Nothing seem to indicate thus far that Mizuho stands to gain a huge inherience or Mizuho’s doing this for any reason other than honoring the relative. My working theory is that Mizuho is actually a girl who became so tomboyish that thought that she was a boy, and this stunt is the way of righting that ship. (Remember, game != anime. Yu Fan and Yu Lan in TSR were most definitely not the same twins in the light novels. Higurashi was most definitely not the same series from the visual novels. And there was a frickin’ threesome in the original Fate/Stay Night game, which grotesquely wasn’t included in the anime.)

(In fact, let’s put it to a vote…)

image

DOWN Mariya… or more accurately, lack of Mariya-induced fanservice. I managed to survive one episode without Mariya-induced fanservice, let’s not make it two.

image

UP Kana… I miss eyecatches. Beyond kawaii. Where is your Oharuhi-sama now Aruru?!?

image

UP Feel… just dawned on me that this animation team is moving onto Nagasarete Airantou… while I am concerned by the sparse animation (from about 12:00 to 13:00 during this episode, there was literally one frame change every five seconds), I think I can relax knowing that Feel will leave intact much appreciated Suzu, Ayane, and Tonkatsu Machi fanservice. At least I know they’ll do a good job on the story where the girls dress up Ikuto in feminine clothing.

image

UP Shion… playful, hawt, elegant, sickly girl. My, that covers a lot of moe modes… if only if she had cat ears to compliment Kana’s bunny ears. Anyway, loved the scenes that she were in. They make her look so angelic and graceful in the scene where this screenshot is from, then the make her seem Oprah-like when she’s countering Takako’s attack, and then Shion was so helpless when she collapses and Mizuho saves her. I was hoping that they’d play I’ll Always Love You in the background when Mizuho was carrying her off. But alas. I had to add it in myself. Finally, when Mizuho leaned over to kiss her on the forehead, was I the only one thinking, “Mizuho should say to her, ‘Screw this election… you’re more important!’ and jumped on her?”

image

UP Track team… where’s the spying cousin?

image

DOWN The election… was it a jab at the American electoral college with the “it’s the person picked by the person you picked” speech? Was it a jab at the California gubernatorial election with the “treated just like a popularity contest” line? Was it a jab at George W. Bush with how Takako tried to use her powers as student council president to get herself elected Elder? Was it a jab at William Clinton with Shion’s “Unfortunately, I ruined that Gap blouse” comment?

image

DOWN Takako… I don’t like her. Her sense of entitlement to “Elder” reminds me of what I don’t like about politics. We need to put her and the entire cast of Happiness to work in some coal mine in Siberia.

image

UP Friends… let’s recap: Mizuho has (1) Mariya, a childhood friend who likes seducing Mizuho. Mariya is always fairly popular at the academy (2) Shion, the reigning Elder, the previously most popular girl in school (3) Kana, kawaii bait (4) Yukari, track team (?). Takako has (1) Kimie, who has a Yukino/Haruha-type of relationship with Takako whose only ability is stalking… and that’s about it. So of course Takako is going to get stomped by Mizuho in an election… she has weaker friends. It’s like would you rather have, for your party, Cayanne equipped with an offering or Gau imitating an imp? Thought so. You probably have no idea what I’m talking about.

(BTW, what do you think this “rumor” was that Mariya was spreading about Mizuho? I’m very curious now…)

  1. WHY…? WHY? Why did they have Horie Yui voice Mizuho?? If they’ve had casted Paku Remi as her VA instead it probably wouldn’t be so painful everytime Mizuho’s starting to look good…

  2. I think Takako just doesn’t want an exchange student to be the Elder.

    >>> It’s like would you rather have, for your party, Cayanne equipped with an offering or Gau imitating an imp?

I’d rather have a lvl 99 Locke with Genji Glove + Offering + Atma Weapon + Valiant Knife. That’s 8x 9999 damage per round against any opponent (the weapons ignore opponent defense). Plus Locke is the fastest character in the game.

  3. To Jason Miao,

    Re: Not a Trap

It’s fiction; so if you DON’T want it to be a trap, it isn’t. Isn’t imagination wonderful?

  4. “No way there’s a penis on this. None. I won’t accept it.”

I agree. It seems as if every time I finally am able to convince myself that there *is* the possibility of a penis being on Mizuho that another picture like that one shows up and shatters my resolve and sticks her back into the “not a trap” category in my mind. I think I’m just going to give up and just keep her there.

  5. Where exactly are the lyrics from anyway.

  6. No need for imagination or denial or anything. In that picture he might have a penis on him. But you know what, that’s okay. I’d still tap that with a passion. I am a guy.

  7. Hah. You should check out the HCGs from the game, especially those involving Takako.

  8. To Eleutheria

    Source Plz!!

Seriously though, the games website doesn’t do the comedy service.

  9. Re: Playful, hawt, elegant, sickly moeeee

Mutsumi from Love Hina covers all of that, plus big-chested dojikko… plus antennae-hair, for those of you for whom that is a moe mode.

As a kicker, Mutsumi was voiced by Yukino Satsuki… yeah, I had to check twice. Totally against type, but she made it work.

I like what they did with the character designs on this show. I’ve seen the original h-game CGs and man, are they ooogly.

  10. For dissing on the tsundere goddess that is Takako, there can be no forgiveness.

Oh well. Give her time – don’t send her to Siberia just yet. She’ll probably grow on shortly.

  11. Voted “Don’t Care.”

And apparently that choice is winning.

    Well, now. Comment?

  12. >>WHY…? WHY? Why did they have Horie Yui voice Mizuho?? If they’ve had casted Paku Remi as her VA instead it probably wouldn’t be so painful everytime Mizuho’s starting to look good…

I lol’ed. Hard. Four words my friend, fap first worry later.

    >>Takako… I don’t like her. Her sense of entitlement to “Elder” reminds me of what I don’t like about politics.

Yeah.. Takako is kinda hateble at this episode, but she really grows on you… after this episode. I’m pretty sure you’ll have to revise you opinion after episode 04 and 05.

  13. o.o;;; Did you just work in a Final Fantasy VI reference?! For the record, they’re both lame characters :P Give the offering to Tina or Celes.

  14. >> Cayenne equipped with an offering or Gau imitating an imp?

lvl99 morphed Terra + Gem Box + Economizer + Merton-Quick-Merton-Merton-Merton-Merton. Fire Shields/Snow Muffler on anyone else.

(Don’t diss your old school fans. Seriously)

ps. Terra learns Merton on lvl86. I know because I (in one of my many replays of this masterpiece) grinded her and Celes to death fighting Brachiosaurus.

    >> Episode “Miss Bayside,” original air date 10/27/1990, where Zach tries to get Screech elected Miss Bayside, much to Kelly’s and Jessie’s dismay. The internet is a scary place.

Isn’t it scarier that I REMEMBER that episode? Or that I remember Saved By The Bell at all?

    >> And, if there is one, cut it off.

Somewhere, there is a Chiyuri saying “CORRECTO!”

    >> In fact, let’s put it to a vote…

    Why? Honestly, I don’t care.
It could even be an intelligent monster, and I would still hit it ten times over.

    BTW, Mizuho’s grandfather.

    >> DOWN Takako…

*sigh* Give it a few episodes, I’m sure you’ll reverse that decision.

  15. Mizuho-oneesama~ I’m also in denial/hoping for magic or a Kasimasi.

FF6: I’d rather buy x 99 dried meat in anticipation of WoR so I wouldn’t wander around the silent, lonely world hungry. >_>

  16. Fear not Jason; fanservice mode Mariya comes back in ep 4.

BTW, this is the “weakest” episode so far…

  17. >> o.o;;; Did you just work in a Final Fantasy VI reference?! For the record, they’re both lame characters :P Give the offering to Tina or Celes.

Why? They are not as much physical powerhorses as they are magical powerhorses. Cyan is good because he’s got lots of strength and respectable speed. But I’d rather use EdGAR because he’s got all that strength and he’s even more versatile (being able to use Ilumina and his kickass tools).

Why is it that I’m thinking of a FF6/Higurashi crossover, with Mion/Shion being Edgar/Sabin? It actually would fit quite well…

  18. anyone ever thought oh mizuho wearing a very well done bodysuit?

  19. >>DOWN The election… was it a jab at the American electoral college with the “it’s the person picked by the person you picked” speech? If this was an arguement about poltics it is decrepit and misplaced. Who the hell watches this for political commentary? Besides I doubt that the Japanese care much that we Yanks vote on a Tuesday in November.

    >>Mizuho-oneesama… I don’t care anymore. Just shoot me. No way there’s a penis on this. None. I won’t accept it. (And, if there is one, cut it off.)

Adding variation to justification I see.

    >>My working theory is that Mizuho is actually a girl who became so tomboyish that thought that she was a boy, and this stunt is the way of righting that ship.

Is it possible then to be a tomboy without having many tradtional manly sensibilites? Afterall in the “election” Mizuho was more concerned about rumors than winning…Also why the struggle to sit down to use the john? After all my understanding was that women could not stand and use the toilet without some sort of urea mess. If your theory stands up to scrutiny then Mizuho must have been lifting the seat, standing, and creating “no man’s land in the bathroom” for years.

  20. >>>creating “no man’s land in the bathroom” for years. -Crusader

zomg mental images…..*explosions or brightly coloured…eh..water*cough*

but seriously mizuho must have had a penis at one point or another, so unless someone does a crotch grab we wont know if “it” still has one.

  21. In American Pie (the movie) the ‘rumour’ was that finch had a large *enis.

I wonder what this could be ;)

Still I’m really wondering… if Mizuho really is a guy, why does he have a girl name, and why isn’t he perving over all the girls yet? If this were a better show he’d be a perv (aka normal guy) and hilarious hijinks would ensue.

  22. Also note: Mizuho sleeps with “his” falsies. Watch the scene where “he” wakes up.

Riiiiiiiiiiight. More evidence for the double trap theory.

    >>Four words my friend, fap first worry later.

    Kurogane 4tw.

  23. No no… best is Cyan being an imp then using the crazy cyan bug to do well infinite damage. And an unusual change from the normal sports metaphors… like what would you rather have LeBron for 3 years or (insert random scrub here).

  24. Oh, for those who are still saying if it’s a guy, Ghost Girl made it pretty clear that Mizuho’s got a decent tool. So you should already drop the denial :P

  25. That’s the game, this is the animé. Wouldn’t be the first time things changed, twixt the CPU and the cell…

  26. >>Oh, for those who are still saying if it’s a guy, Ghost Girl made it pretty clear that Mizuho’s got a decent tool.

No! I don’t want to believe that Mizuho has a decent tool. Actually I completely forgot that he was a guy for a bit. Really, how is he a guy?!

    >>Four words my friend, fap first worry later.

    O_O

  27. Actually, Gau does better with the Offering (with the Wind God Gau glitch) than Cyan does, at least until level 50+ or so (and maybe not even then), at which point Locke should have first and all dibs on the Offering anyway. And pre-level 50, Setzer with the Fixed Dice should be holding the Offering anyway.

  28. The lyrics are a parody of the “Miss America” theme:

    There she is, Miss America
    There she is, your ideal
The dreams of a million girls
    Who are more than pretty
May come true in Atlantic City
Oh she may turn out to be
    The queen of femininity

Bothered me forever, so I googled it.
    whadya know, G _I_ YF!

  29. hehe, just wait for the next few episodes, especially episode 6…the pain of t3h trap known as Mizuho just gets stronger and more painful. But oh so worth it.

  30. >> That’s the game, this is the animé. Wouldn’t be the first time things changed, twixt the CPU and the cell…

Uhhh, no. Watch the next episodes.

  31. Well, I would if the fansubbers would hurry along. At this rate, I’m going to have to learn to speak Japanese…

  32. “My working theory is that Mizuho is actually a girl who became so tomboyish that thought that she was a boy, and this stunt is the way of righting that ship.”

Totally what I thought. Just some people thought I was weird when I even mentioned this theory, because I was watching a anime that had a girl who forgot she was a girl, who actually thinks she is a guy, so is forced to go to a all girl school and dress up like one to remember. It just struck me after watching Ouran.

  33. RAAAAAAAAAAAAH! GUY GUY GUY GUY GUY. Mizuho is a guy. That’s all he is, just a guy, in girl guise. This has been done so many times that it should be clear now. Do we dare name how many young, pretty boys has posed as women in anime, and have done it well!? It’s a form of female worship, and the Japanese adore it.

As for Mizuho, and penises, I’m sure there’s one there, and even if there weren’t, does that magicly make him female? Newp. As for sex, I just stick to more innocent things, like watching the poor boy apply lip gloss, like in episode two. Now THATS moe. =)

Someomen mentioned Kashimashi — Hazumu! I loved him for some reason, even though it was a little snickerworthy at how he was transformed into a girl. [The dude got merc’d by a starship. THE SHIP FELL ON HIM.]
