the girl was alone in the world, again

The plot to Nagisa’s story sure sounds familiar. If it leads to her and Tomoya mating like rabbits on the school roof, all the better.

(Nagisa has Mikuru’s bat swing, but unlike Mikuru who loses her balance due to her melonpan, Nagisa swings straight and makes contact. This is the type of analysis I know you come to expect from Derailed. Andohbytheway, Clannad is Kyoto Animation’s finest sports anime.)

  1. Just watched this episode not too long ago, I hate to admit it, but Nagisa is really winning some bonus points with me.

Though I can’t resist saying things like, “Oh Rena Ryuugu, you are adorable. So when are you going to chop off Tomya’s head?”

  2. Yeah, I got the exact same thought 1:35 into the show, hilarious imo, then again.. although Clannad and ef started airing at the same time the Clannad game came first I believe….Now what if Tomoya started writing novels?

  3. Was I the only one disturbed by the fact that Sunohara made the most sense in this entire episode? He was wise, thoughtful, caring, and gave good advice.

The only way it could have been better advice, would be if he told Tomoya to go have a four-some with Tomoyo in a meido outfit, Kyou in her bloomers, Kotomi-chan in her seifuku with cat eats, and Ryou in a Shrine Maiden Outfit, while video taping it, then selling it on HD DVD for $29.99, called “How Harem-Anime SHOULD end” to the masses.

When march madness over, can we do a “Who’s the greatest wife material” contest? Grabbing all the Haremettes from old and new anime alike and pitting them against each other, which and oh by the way happens to be at the beach where mandatory thong bikini rule is in effect.

  4. Nagisa having a weak body means “death by childbirth” … a kind of “fire and forget” women.

That is not a good thing.

  5. Drakron is treading in spoiler territory!

    Epic comment is EPIC.

However, I would suggest Tomoyo in a police officer uniform (complete with handcuffs!), Kyou and Ryou in identical bunnygirl suits and Kotomi-chan with Kyou’s bloomers AND nekomimi. And I probably wouldn’t sell it. Who whould want to share such perfection?

  7. I am not to blame for Japan’s FAILING heath care system Sheba …

  8. >> then selling it on HD DVD for $29.99

My problem with this is that it’s on HD DVD, which means it’s like watching Clannad with Fuko being the end girl. BitTorrent, of course, is Kyou with Tomoyo being the beta HD YouTube. Kotomi-chan would be Kotomi-Ray.

  9. The plot to Nagisa’s story sure sounds familiar.

Yeah well Clannad came first in this case, but the general concept isn’t really new altogether.

Andohbytheway, Clannad is Kyoto Animation’s finest sports anime.

Fumoffu?! The Rugby episode my friend.

  10. Meh, Clannad is really getting annoying and treading into Kimikiss territory. The Sunohara jokes arent funny, then they were became annoying, and now they are pissing me off. Sunohara is a great guy, yet all the girls flock to Tomoya. Tomoya is indesicive and lacks a back-bone. Typical harem lead, except Clannad girls are much less complicated, all the girls are relatively normal, so that should just have made things easier for him. All he has proven is that hes a hard worker for his friends and witty.

Nagisa seems like a nice girl, but shes very much plain. Kotomi doesnt seem to have any redeeming qualities what-so-ever. Kyou seems insane. I mean, who ever thinks of the “im going to get the girl i like to hook up with my brother…” plan? Tomoyo would be nice if she wasnt exagerrated in her fighting abilities. Im still expecting her to reveal that shes actually an Alien. After watching Clannad back-to-back with an epsiode of Bebop, its clear that Clannad also lacks an atmosphere. The characters dont interact nearly as well as they could and the scenery has no character. Clannad is very much second rate.

  11. Fumoffu?! The Rugby episode my friend.

While watching knarly men in short shorts rough with each other was surely hilarious, do you actually think that it was better than watching Kyou in thigh highs bouncing up and down for ten minutes? C’mon, get your priorities straight.

  12. paparaharaha: don’t act so incredulous. replace “brother” with “best friend, whom the girl likes” and you’ll have the basis for not an insignificant number of anime episodes, as well as tv. happens in real life once in a while, too. alternatively, replace “girl” with “boy” and “brother” with “best friend who is a lot more honest with herself” (school days, anyone?).

also, your list of complaints could apply much, much earlier. why did you bother to continue watching?

  13. But Jason, HD DVD is dead … its more like “a certain eroge dating sim that starts with “C” and ends with “O” ” bonus character being the end girl.

  14. >> also, your list of complaints could apply much, much earlier. why did you bother to continue watching?

So he can be in the Sagebombing Anon Cool Club.

  15. I expected about 5000 words of whining about Kyou and Tomoyo not being the end girls… I’m proud of you, Jason.

And, to the complainers, I personally think that Clannad is almost as good, perhaps better than, Haruhi.

Of course, that’s because there’s probably never going to be a second season for Haruhi at this rate. orz.

  16. I beg to differ. Even with the “OHSNAP, THEY ALL PLAY BASEBALL AFTER THIS” end to Haruhi’s strange episode order, that series had more tension than Clannad which was a foregone conclusion from episode 1. It’s solid, but I certainly wouldn’t call it panertheon tier.

  17. >> Fumoffu?! The Rugby episode my friend.

One episode against a whole season? Yeah, Clannad is Kyoto’s finest sports anime. I’d love to see Kyoto really tackle the sports or mecha genres… if I were the writer for Clannad anime, I might have turned it into the first ever sports / harem / giant mecha series. It has all the elements, except I’d make Button a 90 feet tall mecha pig that Kyou pilots.

(I’d also turn Kyou and Ryou into Tomoya’s meido, turn Tomoyo into a reverse trap, and then drag Fuko behind the barn with the shotgun.)

  18. >> (I’d also turn Kyou and Ryou into Tomoya’s meido, turn Tomoyo into a reverse trap, and then drag Fuko behind the barn with the shotgun.)

But it’d be a waste to turn Tomoyo into a reverse trap – she’s perfectly good as she is. Just turn Nagisa into a reverse trap, then send Fuuko off to join the cast of Gundam 00 as their newest Trinity pilot. By the time three episodes had run by, she’d have sent all of the countries, Celestial Being, and Saiji into a mass-murder spree which would make Alucard proud.

    Now THAT’S quality entertainment. ;)

  19. Haess, I think my newest post is right up your alley.

I think in the end, I would leave all the characters alone. Having Fuko and Nagisa around just makes Kyou and Tomoyo even better. Much like Dallas fans watching a broken down Juwan Howard subbing in for Dirk. But I’d still have a 90 feet tall mecha Button.

  20. Saw it. Posted the FIXED link for the Hosaka-stripping picture you put up there. ;) I’d still send Fuuko over to Gundam 00 though… just so Saiji has another victim to deal with.

I still say he and Yoko from Gurren Laggen need to pair up, just to see who dooms who first.

  21. Nagasia doesnt really have the same swing as mikiru. They both close their eyes, but Nagasia atleast holds the bat correctly; Mikiru grips it like a lefty so she isnt able to extend and use here wrists.
Taniguchi and Yuki’s swings also had a lot of character. Taniguchi would step away and stick out his ass like he was afraid, while yuki’s swing was all arms with zero bat speed. Loved that episode.

  22. You know, if Key keeps making these type of games using the same character types/models, one of these times we’ll get a Kyou/Nayuki or Kotomi type end girl for Kyoto to animate.
