The Tag Team Minmay Defense.
Now this is how a series should end. Lots of action, a huge build up, and a massive jukebox of songs. Yeah, there were some ridiculous moments, but the final battle didn’t disappoint. More importantly, it held true to Macross tradition with singing intertwined with a final effort.
The Tag Team Minmay Defense! Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the songs from this episode. They managed to fit every major song into this episode, and each one is slightly remixed from the original. For example, What ’bout My Star is sung by both, but they use Sheryl’s version as the base and flipped the lines from when the two sang in the hospital.
(They way the songs were spliced, mixed, and cut, it reminded me of a Super Bowl halftime show where they’re trying to cram like 10 songs into the 8 minute long program. Yes, I was very disappointed that Sheryl didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction… she’s such a prime candidate for it too. Oops, I did it again!)
We also got treated to the Ranka and Sheryl version of Triangular…
… and it keeps the possibility of a threesome resolution alive. Gotta like how Alto, even after bagging Sheryl, still can’t make up his mind, so he tells both girls that “You’re my wings!” At this point, I’d think both would be willing to share him.
Sheryl’s appeal goes up when she’s helpless. Though I like how Battle Frontier, the main fighting ship of the Frontier fleet, is doing nothing during this battle except being a stage for Sheryl to sing on.
Hopes and dreams! Hopes and dreams!
SMS bringing back Galaxy was a stretch… they should have explained how Galaxy was found and how the ship was still operating. Are the people still alive? Are they remotely piloting it?
Seeing Klan don Michael’s equipment, pilot his variable geometry fighter, and take on his sniping role… that’s almost “Shinn clutching Mayu’s cellphone” creepy enough. But I almost immediately forgot about it because it’s Micron Klan. Who let the loli on the battlefield? What is this? Strike Witches?
Should I comment on the fact that Alto was called “Princess” numerous times during this episode without protest? Or that his single earring is the focus of many plot points during this episode?
Wait, why did Grace need Ranka if Grace had the original, real Vajra queen? Wouldn’t it have been better for Grace to kill Ranka so there’s no way Ranka could break free of her bonds and subsequently scuttle Grace’s plan by performing an impromptu duet with Sheryl?
Wow… Alto’s visor shatters… ripping off Gurren Lagann much? How many G’s would it take to shatter a visor?
Unapologetically, undoubtedly, undeniably, unquestionably, utterly batshit insane.
Ranka and Sheryl are singing their hearts out for Alto, and he’s dancing with Brera.
*twitch*
Gotta love how Ranka’s hair moved when Sheryl called out for her… it’s no wonder she’s our Ranka-puppy.
Our final Ranka-puppy is cute montage.
One thing that bothered me…the dress that Sheryl has on at the end is just a holographic projection that gets applied to her 4 minutes into the episode, why is it still on her after she leaves Battle Frontier? In Star Trek, holographic objects disappear when they leave the holodeck. Macross beat out Star Trek technologically and it only took them 50 years to do it!
And why of all colors do they choose pink to signify that the Vajra have become more evil?
A good end, ut I’m still pissed because Alto didn’t pick any of them, or both ^_^
“Yes, I was very disappointed that Sheryl didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction…”
you would think it would happen… i am soooooooooo disappointed…
“Hopes and dreams! Hopes and dreams!”
Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!!!!!!!!!
“Who let the loli on the battlefield? What is this? Strike Witches?”
I would watch that…
“they should have explained how Galaxy was found and how the ship was still operating. Are the people still alive? Are they remotely piloting it?”
maybe Grace promised them to refinance their mortage… she IS ebil…
“Wait, why did Grace need Ranka if Grace had the original, real Vajra queen?”
something about needing her to learn how to communicate or learn their language or something…
“Unapologetically, undoubtedly, undeniably, unquestionably, utterly batshit insane.”
…and yet i want her to be my Queen…
>>Unapologetically, undoubtedly, undeniably, unquestionably, utterly batshit insane.
And still the hawtest thing in the show. Not to mention that Inoue Kikou also voices Sanae in CLANNAD, who played “Dress ups” this week. Tasty.
Also, Ranka puppy is still okay, but I’ve been converted to the side of Sheryl awesomeness. She’s just bigger (boobies!), better, drunker, and funnier.
Ranka was needed as Translator. Grace was struggling to translate the Vajira code and even states how easy it was once there was a human medium.
Grace needed Ranka to understand the Vajira.
The vajira needed Sheryl to understand humanity.
“Wouldn’t it have been better for Grace to kill Ranka so there’s no way Ranka could break free of her bonds and subsequently scuttle Grace’s plan by performing an impromptu duet with Sheryl?”
it was just a way for writers to add the medley, ’cause one of them will be left on
EarthFrontier if Ranka wasn’t taken by Brera. XD.Alto wasn’t listening to his voice lessons because Ranka needed to tell him that the Vajra sing using their stomachs(?).They are using their diaphragms and headtones. Never nasal.Sorry forgive my geekness.Let’s have a SherylRanka ending for the Macross Gekijouban.
banzai!!!
>Sheryl’s appeal goes up when she’s helpless. Though I like how Battle Frontier, the main fighting ship of the Frontier fleet, is doing nothing during this battle except being a stage for Sheryl to sing on.
I think battle frontier and the other islands have been acting as island one’s meat shield. It stood there and absorbed a lot of hits. (you can see the pin point barrier effect from B. Frontier.) And then near the end it slose range beam spammed battle frontier and then punched it! Which I thought was awesome.
You could also see a lot of ships from the Galaxy’s fleet when alto and Brera were approaching the queen, so a good chunk of the fleet was in on it.
I’m very surprised Jason didn’t screen cap the naked Sheryl+Ranka near the end OR the symmetrical docking…
You missed one of the most hilarious (and ridiculous) plot twist where Brera’s and Alto’s fighters copulate in a space dance, both pilots completely dropping their suspicions and past teeth marks of each other.
Threesome end is threesome.
And yes, when I build massive, space traveling, transforming battleships, I want them to
soak up beam spampunch things.“I’m very surprised Jason didn’t screen cap the naked Sheryl+Ranka near the end OR the symmetrical docking…”
thats highly suspicious…
“SMS bringing back Galaxy was a stretch… they should have explained how Galaxy was found and how the ship was still operating. Are the people still alive? Are they remotely piloting it?”
That’s Battle Frontier. Battle Galaxy was already shown to be intact way back in episode 14 was it? When Grace talks to the other conspirators GITS-style. Battle Galaxy’s ships were all pilotless as well, so it’s fair to say that the conspirators managed to kill off the crew.
1. Singing the question posed in Triangular to Alto during battle seems like a Bad Idea TM. Especially when the answer looks like it’s going to be “Brera”.
2. One of the songs in the OST is titled Inumimi Ranka. Ranka-puppy is official.
You call this a threesome?
Hahaha. If only.
Why end the show with a duel or a duet, when you can do both?
I would say it was a huge let down, half of it was nothing but “homages” and the rest simple came from the left field.
The episode might be good if we just look at it from a individual point but looking at the series as a whole it was plain Deux Ex Machina coop out.
In the end Macross F disappointed me, even Zero managed to do better.
You meant ‘Battle Frontier’ there. Although, given that this a homage to past Macross series, and Alto and Brera were on opposite sides much of the time, then paired up for the final battle to become an unstoppable force… does this make them Max and Millia?
…
I’d rather Alto go for the loli-Klein, damn it. At least she’s not infected with Vajra-AIDS and has her head on straight.
By the way, Sanae goes Nekomimi Meido in After Story 2. Be sure to screencap it for the Pantheon.
You didn’t comment on the Minster + Quarter + Battle Frontier three hit combo! Shame!
by the way there was a macross moviein one of the subs…im not too sure which one since i ended up getting two looking for the best one
great mess of an ending! the gurren lagann comparison… there’s more to it than just the visor breaking.
look, taking the fantasy aspects of macross (SONGS) to beyond reason (kicked into the curb) is how mf became analogous to gurren lagann.
look at the utter lack of logic and plausibility and it’s relation to the awesomeness produced… it’s a fair comparison. as for a ripoff, i don’t think they went that far.
i’d say gurren lagann’s visor breakage is a showcase of GAR, while mf used it to show the pretty face they’ve invested so much in.
I think what happened was that Macross Galaxy was never actually under attack by the Vajra; it was all a facade to make the Vajra seem like more of a threat, and to prevent Sheryl from leaving the Frontier. It’d be nice if there was some word-of-god stuff, or some extra materials, that explained exactly what the whole thing with the Galaxy was, though; that is, whether it was just one faction, with Grace leading, that was aiming to control the Vajra, or whether Macross Galaxy as a whole was supporting the plan.
Epi: In case you forgot, Macross Galaxy was said to be cutting-edge, technology wise, and allowed cybernetic implants and all that GITS-style stuff. So it makes sense that they would use Ghost fighters, or remotely-operated fighters, rather than simply sending out fighters with people in them. I mean, a Valkyrie + autonomous flight system is likely less expensive than a Valkyrie + human pilot, and the amount of human capital lost (yes, an econ term…I was in economics this morning, and it’s still on the brain. :/ ) if a Ghost Valkyrie were to be destroyed is equal to zero, as opposed to if a human-piloted Valkyrie were destroyed and the human pilot lost. (My statements do not take into account the VF-27s, which were manned, as those weren’t specifically said to be part of Macross Galaxy’s military fleet; unless I missed something somewhere, it’s likely that the VF-27s were to the Galaxy as the VF-25s were to Macross Frontier.) Anyway, in short, just because Battle Galaxy used unmanned fighters doesn’t mean there wasn’t anyone onboard it. (Of course, it doesn’t mean there was anyone on board, either; your thought is just as valid as the thought of Battle Galaxy still having people on it.)
— Ranka and Sheryl are singing their hearts out for Alto, and he’s dancing with Brera. *twitch*
This single sentence had me laughing till tears came out, and I usually don’t get to that point XD
I am a complete supporter of Brera x Alto and Sheryl x Ranka! (honestly, those are the only couples we saw any interaction for in this episode, besides the threesome)
Myssa Rei: The ranting continues. See AnimeSuki and the TEchnology thread related to this topic.
… but I still say Sheryl and Ranka will be going for each other as Alto’s too busy molesting clouds to notice their charms.
