“Change my perspective?”

The most emotion from Houtarou thus far. This is the opposite of energy conservation, but I’d be pretty pissed too after being used. Just doubly fun that his detective senses failed because he got complimented by a cute girl. Sigh. Men. And our penises. Also, I was terrified that Houtarou was going to hit Irisu with a tea pot at this point.

(Need to mention this scene had more burning passion than most of Fate/Zero. I think everyone is a bit too methodical and calculating in that show… it’s like everyone is suppressing their emotions only to let it out at the very end. Needed more… emo…)

At least this episode had some drama going on… so can’t complain there. And there’s a mystery as to why Houtarou’s sister is orchestrating all these events around him. It’s like she’s prepping him for something (I’m guessing it’s not to get him to date Chitanda), much like how the Blade Children originally tested Narumi in Spiral. While over-the-top-ish, Spiral is kinda like Mirai Nikki blended with Hyouka. Narumi and Hiyono are very much like Houtarou and Chitanda respectively, but the stakes are incredibly high with murders happening as often as terrible Shit People Say Youtube videos.

(Why would his sister be internet chatting with a student but not spend more than two minutes talking to her brother? She’s either an evil genius or scatterbrained or both. I prefer to think of her sipping Burgundy wine and petting a fat Cheshire cat while lounging on a beach on Monaco next to her lover, Tom Cruise.)

Chitanda’s adorableness is off the scales. In terms of Kyoto Animation characters, she is up there with Mikuru, Professor, Kotomi-chan, and Bonta-kun in terms of adorableness. The fact that she was there to pick up a depressed and down Houtarou only added to her adorableness… meido Chitanda can’t happen soon enough.

(Speaking of meido, I recently got back from LA, and I finally got a change to visit the meido cafe Royal T. And just in time since they are closing on the 22nd of this month so the owner can whimsically travel the world and open pop-up restaurants. So I guess pop-up restaurants are this year’s food fad, which I’m not sure is an upgrade from last year’s food truck fad. Also at AX? Like 20 food trucks up from last year’s measly 6.)

The original ending– yep– sucked. It’s Guilty Crown-level. Why would someone just quickly forgive someone who tried to stab them and elaborately planned on doing so? Why did the girl have rope with her if no one know which room they would be (remember, keys were “randomly” taken) let alone having one of the two rooms exactly on top of the one the dude was in. Also, why would the dude try and cover it up? “Hey, why is there a knife wound in your arm?” “Oh, it’s nothing. Just some glass fell on me…” Houtarou cleaned up the mess. Though Irisu did out-fox him as this was the only way she could get him to do the dirty work.

Kininarimasu! Things I’m Curious About

1. Who thought it would be a good idea to put The X-Games right next to Anime Expo? And how much money did ESPN bribe LA with to block off traffic going to Anime Expo just so they could fit a Hot Wheels track in the middle of the main traffic path to the convention center?

2. Has Seinfeld aged poorly? It ran through the 1990s, but, damn, some of the episodes look like they’re from the 1980’s. Must be the sweaters. And the terrible b-roll they always used for that show didn’t help.

3. Meido Chitanda. ’nuff said.

  1. This was actually an excellent ending to a tepid arc. It tied up all the inconsistencies and answered the questions about why certain seemingly dumb and counter-intuitive things were done in the previous 3 episodes.

It also showcased the characters nicely, angry Houtarou was pretty cool, and he had no problem confronting the manipulative Irisu and speaking his mind to her, which elevates him above 90% of male leads. I love how Chitanda obviously really didn’t want to tell Houtarou he was wrong too.

It’s good to watch the IM conversations at the end of episode 8 after seeing the one at the end of this episode too.

  2. …I mean start of episode 8.

  3. 1) The city of LA had a choice about who to make the bitch. Seeing that no one outside of anime gives a shit about anime, and that they can cast a wider net with ESPN and the X-Games, they made the Anime Expo the bitch.

2)Poorly would be a miscalculation. The whole of the program was starting to show it’s age by the “insert lame season here”. Sorry, Jerry, you never really were that funny.

    3)Agreed.

  4. And blogsuki will be taking an unexpected hiatus after watching episode 12, and having curiosity 3 fulfilled.
