“___”

Houtarou stunned by Chitanda’s adorableness is excellent. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe if Houtarou suddenly started daydreaming and started taking off his shirt… nah, it’s fine the way it is. Good representation of young love.

They look so cute together. I haven’t felt feelings like this since early Mulder and Scully.

“The obi would come off…”

Kyoto. Seriously. Teasing us with Chitanda and Houtarou trapped in a shed and completely whiffing on it. It’s bad enough that we got zero fanservice, but we also sat through an episode that was way too dark. Yes, I know it is nighttime, but couldn’t they have a lightbulb or something in the shed? I feel like we just wasted kimono Chitanda, who is absolutely adorable. Needless to say, we won’t be referring to this episode like delicious Kyou thighs.

(When Chitanda offered her kimono string, I was like, “Yes… yes… yes… NOOOOOOO!” It’s exactly like watching a football game when your team’s running back goes the length of the field only to fumble and lose the ball.)

And another idiot pair. It’s like they’re stuck in Pleasantville or something. Though I like Satoshi’s fashionable colored jeans and his hoodie slash jacket combo. I am wondering why Mayaka has hair extensions though… is there a law against miko with short hair?

Blah plot. I really expected more for the penultimate episode. The only good thing I can say about this episode is that many years ago, my roommate and I dominated games like Taboo because we could communicate in another language: video games. A clue for “mushroom” would be, “what makes Mario grow big” or a clue for “spoon” would be, “a type of bard.”

(I don’t see Hyouka ending well. It’s going to be a bland final episode with some sentimental moments, but no character or relationship development or any beyond, “Hey, just keep imagining the characters the way they are.” In other words, just like any other slice of life show… dammit, I wanted more.)

Was there any doubt Houtarou would get “terrible luck”? The thing is more rigged than the 1985 NBA draft.

Talk about contrived situation… they both forgot their cell phones (really, most of my friendds would be in catatonic shock if their app phones weren’t in their fingers all the time)… they can’t break down any walls (which they only needed a small hole to loosen the door)… they can’t call for help because it might give people the wrong impression… so, instead, let’s toss out a piece of Chitanda’s wardrobe one at a time! That won’t give anyone a wrong impression. If I see two people trapped behind a door, I wouldn’t suspect that they were canoodling… maybe if Chitanda’s and Houtarou’s hair were in wild animal sex hair mode. In fact, being in there for so long makes it more suspicious… “Oh, we were just trapped in here, thank goodness you saved us” is much less suspicious than “Oh, we were just trapped here for three hours. We didn’t want anyone to think we were Amagami-ing each other or anything.”

Most dramatic handkerchief ever. I was hoping a shiba inu would run by and grab it and then have Houtarou make a, “Dammit!” face.

“Kininarimasu!” Things I’m Curious About

1. Kimono Chitanda with a sidetail.

2. Kimono Chitanda being spun out of said kimono.

3. What Hyouka would have been like with an above average plot.

  1. First thought when I followed the link back to that Clannad post – Yeesh, did Clannad really look that bad? Maybe it’s time for KyoAni to remake Clannad, Kanon, Air, etc..

  2. Nowhere near as good as the last time a Yuichi Nakamura voiced character got trapped in a shed with a girl.

  3. “It’s bad enough that we got zero fanservice”

No, it’s not. I was saying “bravo, KyoAni,” and clapping in my head after the episode because of the lack of fanservice. I was holding my breath throughout the whole thing due to the fear of them going there. Subtle gestures, rosy cheeks, and secretive side looks are still classic. That’s the real tease.

But I wholeheartedly agree with you on this series not ending well. The whole “story w/ awesome characters, solid plots, and great potential will just end very abruptly so the audience can imagine the rest of the story and write lots of fanfics and draw lots of fan-art and buy lots of merchandise” idea+marketing strategy is getting quite old. But it’s the trend now, really. So many solid series (not just in anime, but in dramas, movies, manga, novels, etc.) are going in that direction, (1Q84, anyone?) and everyone seems to be okay with it. Looks like KyoAni has also jumped onto that bandwagon.

Unless they’re planning a movie, of course, like what they did with Munto, Haruhi (when is season 3 coming out?) and K-On!. Then I’ll be less irritated with the studio temporarily. But I do hope the movie is conclusive – because if it’s not, the whole thing will still be pointless.

  4. Hmmm…Chitanda sweetness. If this was an American show, something like Spandau Ballet’s “True” would have started playing while Eru was in slow-mo.
And Eru willingly offered her obi string knowing the consequences. Maybe that was her “subtlety” flirting & hinting Hotarou. I can imagine her cutely pouting in the dark mumbling “Houtarou no baka”…cliche’ it may be.

  5. “… suddenly started daydreaming and started taking off his shirt”

    Soon….very soon now.
