higurashi no naku koro ni 5 discussion

Thanks to the Heat sucking badly against NJ, I decided to throw up a discussion post for Higurashi 5.

(Oh, thanks to Siscon-san, Mion and Shion now grace The 好き.)

” I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy.”

Jason, Mion’s had the gun since episode 1 – lolikitsune.

Damn, you’re right. Never noticed… blows up my theory, doesn’t it? (Yes, I’m kicking myself for not noticing this gun for the past four episodes. I scared that the Main Office is going to revoke my anime blogging license now.)

I’m continually amused by how the show goes out of its way to NOT mention the gun. – Fencedude

I’m curious now, though I have found a copious amount of fanart where the gun is actually a water gun. I’m bummed. Though Shion/Mion’s T-shirt and gun combo doesn’t top Sakuya’s bikini and gun combo.

Hey Jason, can you tell us a few other words that star with “Na” and have a relation with this series. – Syaoran Li

I think it’s just title styling… sorry, I just don’t think it has anything to do with the plot.

However it is almost definite that Shion was how Mion learned that K1 and Oishii had lunch together – Fencedude

Mion and Rena knew a lot more than just that during the first arc, like how K1’s parent’s weren’t home. Though if incredibily hawt waitress Shion was at the restaurant, I’m sure K1 would have noticed. (I would!) What I’d like to know is what happened to the photographer? Because he doesn’t exist in this arc, K1 was never tempted to be suspicious of Rena, and as such, never drew the attention of Oishi? The events kinda snowballed after the Watanagashi festival in the first arc.

Still, I’m guessing that the arcs are related in that K1 is kinda like Haruhi… he dreams up each world, and after he dies in each, it’s like hitting the reset button and starting over again. Oyashiro is probably his conscience telling him to stop dreaming about killer lolis and do his deity homework.

I’m starting to thinking that Keiichi might actually survive this arc…at least until he gets some hot twin action. lol – Alpha123

Don’t jinx him! I’m definitely rooting for hawt twin action… though I’m worried. Not for K1, but how can Higurashi top these two arcs? Beach fanservice episode where Shion loses her top, Asa-style, and then K1 and Rika end up alone on an island, only to be disturbed by Mion butchering both of them, then retreating to enjoy some twincest?

Anyway, Rena put up a pantheon emo contorted face performance in the first, and now Shion/Mion are putting up an equally stellar display. It’s like watching the almost instant classic Mavs/Spurs game one… following it up with Detroit steamrolling over poor Cleveland.

Well, I thought 4 episodes mark the series and end it with alot of question, but seems like this is only the begining. according to info around web, the story will become more hard core. – TrueAlchemist

“Hard core” kinda scares me (unless it’s hard core in the h-sense, and then I’m all for twincest). I like the show because it tries to mix so many different things, and, if it goes straight horror, I’m not sure if I like it as much. I can only watch K1 getting massacured so many times before I make my obligatory Law and Order: K1 Dismemberment Unit post. Right now, the killer loli harem gimmick is working fantastic. Roughly ten times better than Magipoka‘s slutty loli vampire-robot-witch-werewolf gimmick.

If you know what happens, please refrain from telling us. I think it’s more fun to make wild ass guesses like complete morons. Thank you. :)

Nice catch about the “Mion” biking away from the toy shop to go to her arubaito. – Eleutheria

I have no clue if that girl in the beginning is Mion or Shion… though I’m guessing Mion gets messed over by Shion somehow and loses it. It’s very hard for me to go through the episode and say, “Hey, that’s definitely Shion!” They need a birthmark. Still, that’s one big aspect of what’s fun with this series… the continuous guessing game. I like this guessing game, and I gleefully watch to see if it unfolds that way. Which is pretty much the opposite of Mai Otome, where I pretty much know where it’s going, only I don’t think it should go there. And now Nina’s pregnant.

And last but not least…

And then it turns out that he’s been dating futanari twins who shaft his ass to death. And then Jason writes about his new mental scars. In 2500 words or less. Also, Jason, machetes are so passe. You wanna sever arteries in style, use a Spyderco Harpy. It worked for Hannibal Lecter. – DrmChsr0

I think Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa is a great manga that deserves an anime. I’d much rather see how Kyoto Animation would deal with the “Uh, I just stash it into the hole” joke than see Ayu for 24 more episodes. And if they use DEVO’s Whip It as the OP, I may just self-combust.

  1. I’m surprised no one mentioned if theres a possibility that the Mion/Shion switching happened in the previous scenario, or maybe if the “Mion” we know is really “Shion” meanwhile “Shion” is the real “Mion”.

And someone mentioned “Shion” being the dominator, if that’s the case, why is her existence not known while “Mion” gets to go to school and enjoy her presence with everyone else including Kei-chan?

    cough

  2. For now, I found this show a bit… dishonest. It feeds us quite uninventive “romance” eps while sustaining our interest by making us trying to guess how this will end in the forcasted slaughter. I sure hope the reason is more solid than “I m mad” or “I m possessed”.

  3. >>Still, I’m guessing that the arcs are related in that K1 is kinda like Haruhi… he dreams up each world, and after he dies in each, it’s like hitting the reset button and starting over again. Interesting theory, your heresy has been noted.

Oh, I think Tomitake EXISTS in this arc, its just that this time around, he never went to the junkyard with Rena, and thus they never met.

I believe each arc will include the murder of Tomitake at the Watanagashi, but since this time K1 never encountered him, Oishi has no reason to come to him. However, it looks like this time around someone will have some connection to Takano, who is probably the biggest mystery from the first arc.

I’m surprised no one mentioned if theres a possibility that the Mion/Shion switching happened in the previous scenario, or maybe if the “Mion” we know is really “Shion” meanwhile “Shion” is the real “Mion”.

Doublethink can get you into trouble, I severely doubt there was any Twin-switching in the first arc, it would make things far too clumsy.

Also, just as a personal opinion, I do not believe there is any form of supernatural at work here, I believe all that has happened has been the work of humans.

  5. I don’t think we have diverged from the previous arc yet. The events of this episode happened somewhere between episodes 1 and 2 (probably before the junkyard trip). So K1 hasn’t heard about the murders yet, and the girls haven’t gotten suspicious yet. At the beginning of episode 2, Mion is explaining about Watanagashi, and she says “As I told you before, the Watanagashi Festival.” The “As I told you before” part is in this episode. K1 will probably make some decision in the next epsode that will cause us to diverge (I’m guessing at the festival.)

  6. Though if incredibily hawt waitress Shion was at the restaurant, I’m sure K1 would have noticed. (I would!)

Then again Keiichi was totally absorbed in his conversation with Detective Delicious, fearing for his life as he was. That waitress had green hair and the same waitress uniform as Shion. It’s like the gun thing, one might see but one just doesn’t register it at first.

    They need a birthmark.

In the OP where Mion and Shion are yubikiri-fetal linked, doesn’t the one on the left sport this enormous mark on her back?

  7. I’m thinking we’re in a whole new arc, a sort of parallel world. In this 5th ep, that festival hasn’t occured yet. (It’s said somewhere in the ep, I forgot where.)

Therefore I conclude that we’re in a sort of parallel world where things will probably turn out differently. Of course, whether K1 will get butchered again is a mystery. (And no, I don’t know anything about the plot, so this is just me guessing.)

Also, as Zyl said, there’s an enormous sort of tattoo thingy on one of their backs. OP song ruins it for us I guess. XD

  8. Err…you don’t need to “conclude” that, its a given.

And yes, Mion has a large tatoo on her back.

  9. I almost think it’s them just retelling it from different angles, but same universe, same timeline. Seems like they’re just showing it to you from a different perspective to fill in details bit by bit and screw with us. Also, did anyone else notice that whenever they get “pissed” their eye’s change? This is leading me to think some kind of mind control is involved and they they might all be decent people under someone or something elses control.

Just what I’ve been guessing so far. But awesome series, I can’t wait to see more!

  10. “This is leading me to think some kind of mind control is involved and they they might all be decent people under someone or something elses control.”

I was thinking that too, or else when they get angered, it triggers somesort of personality switch.Maybe they have a double personality, both sides knowing the whole truth, however the angry side comes out when only to protect the other side, especially from facing the truth.
