random walk
Clean slate. Empty post. Nothing particular to talk about. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?
I’ve been listening to LOL FANG-TAN’s version of Hare Hare Yukai, and it’s fantastic. While Yuki Matsuoka doesn’t have the same range as Aya Hirano or the same hopelessness in her voice as Yuko Goto, she does stay perfectly in character by changing the familiar lyrics by injecting her trademark ~nyoro! “Yume yume suki ~nyoro!” LOL FANG-TAN has become one of those characters who could have been a starring character for any other anime– drop her into something like Bartender, and it would become the most unstoppable series of Fall 2006. LOL FANG-TAN’s legend just grew tremendously after Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ended thanks much due to the doujinshi crowd. Hopefully, we’ll see more of her in Quietness of Yuki Nagato. Suigintou was kinda like this as well, and I’m glad that they brought her back for Rozen Maiden ~Dreams~ instead of leaving her so un-Alice. Rosary is becoming like this for Mai Otome. If only we had a Mini-Rosary following her around chasing after cheese.
Speaking of which, I can’t believe they are taking months between episodes. Waiting too long between OVA releases really kills the hype (see Ultimate, Hellsing) and, well, people kinda forget what happens in those three months. It’s not like Sunrise needs to sell DVDs of the first episode to finance the next or that they can’t animate fast enough (common OVA problems) since they are a huge company and all. I don’t see the reasoning between waiting this long unless they’re at a loss for what the plot should be, and, if that’s the case, they should animate ASAP. Sunrise always seem to do their best job when they’re short on time and creating train wrecks– remember, just because a normal anime review site may give Mai Otome a poor rating, it doesn’t mean that it’ll be any less enjoyable for AoMM. (In other words, I need a brain check.)
I prefer more of an Inital D Fourth Stage schedule where they did two episodes every month, and that was mostly because they had to slow down for the manga to catch up. Still, one thing’s for sure– if Sunrise went with the manga instead of the Mr Wong-Nina-Anty love triangle, I don’t think anyone would care about Zwei. The manga isn’t train wreck bad– it’s just blah-average and not as memorable as Nina seducing her father.
Oh, I’ve been meaning to toss up a review for Noodle Fighter Miki volume one except I’m not sure why I would review something that won’t have a volume two. I wonder how many copies of volume one did ADV manage to sell? Three? Four? Six? It seemed like just yesterday that there was an anime boom and anything was getting licensed. I was definitely surprised that ADV picked up something as obscure as Muteki and that they dropped it before the anime came out. Honestly, I think most people like myself didn’t know until it was too late and the future volumes were canceled.
Still, for fans of Muteki Kanban Musume, I consider reading this manga a must. The chapter where Miki doesn’t say anything was just genius, pure genius. I still can’t believe we getting Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ni and not Muteki Kanban Musume Seconds. *sigh*
With the new Higurashi series coming next year, if it starts in the Fall, it would be an epic sequel battlefront with Haruhi, Rena, and Louise. Actually, it wouldn’t. Haruhi would eviscerate the other two. Andohbytheway, is it a strange coincidence that the recently confirmed sequels for 2006 were all previously blogged by AoMM? If suddenly Rena runs around in a meido uniform all the time, I know that I’m doing some good in this world. Nevertheless, it gives me faint hope for more episodes of Muteki now.
I completely forgot that Rena does indeed have a meme associate with her figure. Life-like texture! Good times… good times… until we find out that Higurashi Ni Ni is going to be done by Studio Deen with a budget of $500 an episode. Then bad times… bad times… I’m regretting even bringing up Flat Chest Rena… Life-like Texture Rena is clearly superior, especially if she’s wandering around aimlessly in a meido costume with K1 thinking, “That girl’s bat-shit loco!”
But it did somehow lead to one of the more enjoyable comments that I’ve read recently:
I’m not sure it’s possible for Mikuru to be fed moe-steroids. That would break the moe-threshold and lead to moe-tational collapse, and anything within the moe radius will be drawn to this infinitely moe point (a moe singularity). There is no escaping the pull of infinite moe.
Most horrifying of all: the cosmic censorship hypothesis suggests that no moe singularity is naked. That means we’ll never be able to really see these points of infinite moe. They’re all hidden within the moe event horizon, which we of course cannot cross on pain of being crushed to death by the pure moe force.
Needless to say, Yuki probably sent all moe-steroids universes without Mikuru (or Canada) to prevent Mikuru from accidentally consuming the steroids and creating a moe singularity. The Muteki Kanban universe was one probable destination of the moe-steroids: Kayahara-sensei’s ramen was clearly spiked with them.
In conclusion: don’t feed moe-steroids to people who are already extremely moe, or you’ll never see them naked. – GDP
First off, fantastic rant. There’s one problem– all of the moe in the Haruhi Suzumiyaverse is not contained strictly with Mikuru Asahina. Not everyone is swayed by those puppy dog eyes, that loli-like face, or those epic, life-like textured melonpan. Despite the fact that we had meido, nurse, cheerleader, waitress, school girl, and bunny girl Mikuru, they do not happen concurrently. The only way to concentrate all the moe onto Mikuru would be to create time paradoxes where Mikurus from the future and past will congregate and create this moe singularity while each Mikuru wears a different costume.
Still, I believe that there has to be an equal and opposite moe in a typically stable Haruhi Suzumiyaverse– if Mikuru had more moe than her surroundings, wouldn’t the world continue to shrink and contract around Mikuru? What’s keeping everyone stable are other moe gravity wells, from Imouto to Haruhi to Yuki to Ryoko to Itsuki to LOL FANG-TAN. They provide the buoyant forces necessary to contain the moe. So if we wished to pursue a course where we further increased the moe of Mikuru, all we needed to do to prevent the world from collapsing is to introduce enough moe from the surrounding characters to keep the balance. I vote for LOL FANG-TAN to sing a cover of God Knows ~nyoro~ wearing the Angol Mort outfit with Ryoko eating a Pizza Hut pan crust pizza while on drums in the background. Yuuichi could even hold hands with Itsuki and Kyon in the mosh pit. And with this random walk pacing back to LOL FANG-TAN, I think it’s a fitting place to stop.
Wow your theories on moe are more confusing than anything i’ve learned in school this past semester. How could they make a sequel to muteki, the series didn’t even seem to go anywhere in the first place, if I have to hear nyaa one more time I think I would demolish my tv, its no surprise to me that the licensing failed. Maybe i’m just having haruhi withdrawal symptoms.
I was hoping for a more cheerful version of Hare Hare Yukai, but Tsuruya’s nyoro~ make up for that. BTW, I enjoyed Asakura’s COOL EDITION just because of her ramblings; perfect blend of kawaii and kowai.
I have to get my hands on MKM vol.1; Miki not saying anything? Good God… Anyway, review it please Jason, let people know about Miki!
>>I still can’t believe we getting Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ni and not Muteki Kanban Musume Seconds.
As payment for MKM, I’ll take Shion & Mion in meido outfits or short skirt & tight top outfits. Mmmmmmm…erm yeah.
>>*sigh*
Indeed.
So how is he rest of LOL-Fang-tan’s CD? Mine is still on order and now I am curious.
I can’t believe that Osaka voiced LOL Fang-tan AND I DIDN’T KNOW IT. I am not a real fan, no, no. Just a pale imitation of a fan.
Higurashi Ni Ni? You just made me laugh out loud in the computer lab.
Is there an Itsuki CD as well? What’s that one sound like > . > Duet with Kyon?
Muteki Kanban Musume WAS supposed to have had all three volumes published, according to ANN – but I’ve never seen anyone stock past Volume 1, and that one took me ages to dig up.
Incidentally, for those interested, one of the jokes in the first ‘episode’ of the manga parallels that of the last episode of the anime, with the ‘throwing up’ reference and the explicit breaking of the Fourth Wall (“It’s the first chapter and the heroine’s throwing up ALREADY?”).
I wish someone would issue #2 and #3 – it’s a fun series.
Huh.
My leg is bleeding.
Word.
haruhi char song 6, 7 are due in a bit more than a month (same day)
imouto and emiri
“Yuuichi could even hold hands with Itsuki and Kyon in the mosh pit.”
Unnnnnnnnnnnn-crosses that line right on out. Tee-hee!

Actually, he (I’m assuming it’s Ohta that says it) says the same thing, more or less, in the *first* episode as well. At 6:26 (on the DOREMI sub, at least), right after Okami-sama gut punches Miki and yells at her for ruining the shop’s image (for the first of many times). I assume the first manga chapter is probably what that episode adapted, as it’s pretty obviously an introduction story. I always figured the similar line in the last episode was meant as a nod back to that first episode, but now I’m wondering if there’s a similar line in the manga version of the “Miki Gets Ripped” episode.
>>So if we wished to pursue a course where we further increased the moe of Mikuru, all we needed to do to prevent the world from collapsing is to introduce enough moe from the surrounding characters to keep the balance.
So if we constantly raise the moe of one person, we can force OTHER people to become more moe or the world will be destroyed? I see great potential here.
‘Quick, put on this meido outfit or the universe will collapse!’
–“Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ni”. Even if the show fails, the title wins for being a monster pun. And with the rumors of a new storyline, maybe the new season will end up focusing on Nii nii. Imagine: a world where Satoshi remains alive and builds a harem (a la the Studio Kimigabuchi doujin–but toned down to keep the censors away)!
Forget Keiichi’s club and the ‘power of friendship’ theme–Satoshi will crush his enemies with the power of a killer loli harem! The first arcs will be world resets where Satoshi gets killed for not juggling the girls correctl; throw in Satoshi getting Shion and Mion into a couple twincestual situations; and in the final arc, Satoshi can finally break through the June 1983 barrier with a united harem that sedu–err, defeats the main antagonist. Story End.
‘Satoshi: Harem Mastermind.’ Snazzy.

My Kiss-Kyuu sub has a similar thing (and yes, this scene does happen in a similar fashion in the manga)… although here he just says ‘it’s the first day and already she’s throwing up’. In the manga, it’s translated (by ADV) as “It’s the first CHAPTER and she’s already throwing up”. There, it’s an intentional Fourth Wall reference, just like Ep 12 of the anime.
The joke works on many levels, which is one reason I appreciated both the manga and the anime – especially with the emo faces. :D
But Jason, Higurashi is very very likely (like a 95% chance) made again by Deen.
Your only hope is they don’t character rape Hanyuu badly, that is if they don’t forget her.
…. that and I enjoy crazies. Must be one reason Megumi’s won a place in my heart. ;)

Ah, the oh-so-straightforward Japanese language. I’m assuming either Doremi took some liberties with the sub (maybe they had read the manga?) or the phrase he used in episode 1 can mean either “first day” or “first episode,” because Doremi translated it as the latter.
I bet it was probably Kiss-Kyuu that missed the meaning (and the manga reference), because that line, taken into account with the lines in the last episode and in the first chapter, has got to mean “first episode.” It makes too much sense. Can someone fluent or at least passable) in Japanese help us out here?
What I wanna know is where did he get that doujin lookin page of Rena with her life-like texture from?
Honestly, how much time did you stare at the screen until you came with a title for this post?
I went to buy manga today. I was only supposed to buy School Rumble 3 and Genshiken 7 but when exiting the store I noticed I was holding Noodle Fighter Miki too. I don’t know what happened but I blame this blog. Needless to say, I gathered some unwanted attention in the train as I made a couple of kids deaf with my booming laughter (how can one have Noodle Fighter Miki in the bag and not read instantly?)
>> Muteki Kanban Musume WAS supposed to have had all three volumes published
I don’t think 2 and 3 were ever published. They were never shipped to the retailers.
>> Honestly, how much time did you stare at the screen until you came with a title for this post?
Are you suggesting that I should have named it “code geass 8.5”?
>> ‘Quick, put on this meido outfit or the universe will collapse!’
I like your train of thought. Much potential.
>> Needless to say, I gathered some unwanted attention in the train as I made a couple of kids deaf with my booming laughter
Awesome. I’m telling you, we should start up a petition to get ADV to release the other frickin’ volumes.
>> “Yuuichi could even hold hands with Itsuki and Kyon in the mosh pit.†Unnnnnnnnnnnn-crosses that line right on out. Tee-hee!
Yep, these are my readers.
That was a nice, refreshing walk.
>> Are you suggesting that I should have named it “code geass 8.5″?
Hell no. This post was gold.
>> I’m telling you, we should start up a petition to get ADV to release the other frickin’ volumes.
Damn right. With Shadow Warrior Chronicle vs Utawarerumono scandal ADV already showed they yield to fan pressure faster than Japanese schoolgirls to tentacles.
Curse rapid share and my computer. When I try to download Tsuruya’s song the letters I have to write before I download don’t show up. D: Anyone care to help or maybe find a different place to download it from?
Fang tan is one of those characters that stay in the back of your mind. I really loved in the novel of SHNY that she got along really well with Haruhi. Even got her spot as an honorary Consultant for the SOS-dan.

YTAJR.
(Yes, These Are Jason’s Readers.)
(I thought I left I comment, guess it didn’t work)
Tried to download Tsuruya’s version of the song but Rapid share is acting weird for me. The letters I have to write before I download won’t show up. D: Anyone got any suggesstions? Maybe a different site?
Fang-tan is a character that just sticks in your head, no matter how little air time she got. I love how she got along really well in the novels during the winter chapters. Even got her a spot as an honorary consulstant for the SOS-dan.
what manga was the higurashi pic from? I first thought it was from the real manga, but a new chapter hasn’t been released
and the 2nd time my question is asked..it is ignored..LET’S GO FOR BROKE! THREE TIMES THE CHARM.
*has no life, it’s 3:45am on Sunday, and is bored*
I have a suggestion for your next poll… “What anime-related food would you like to try, just once?”
o Akiko’s “special” jam-mu (Kanon 2006)
o Shana’s melon bread (NOT her melonpan) (Shakugan no Shana)
o Ja-pan (Yakitate!! Japan)
o Jet’s special bell peppers and beef (What makes it special? No beef) (Cowboy Bebop)
o The Legendary Cutlet Sandwich (Kimagure Orange Road)
o RAMEN SETTO! (Black Cat)
o Smoked cheese, nyoro~ (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu)
o Udon from the Fox (xxxHOLiC)
o Little Prince Brand Curry (It’s milder… for kids!) (FLCL)
o Camembert cheese and fish crepes (melty!!!) (Oruchuban Ebichu)
o Otoro sushi (Ouran High School Host Club)
o Grilled eel rice bowl (all-you-can-eat) (Samurai Champloo)
o Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust Hawaiian pizza (Code Geass)
>> I really loved in the novel of SHNY that she got along really well with Haruhi. Even got her spot as an honorary Consultant for the SOS-dan.
If Kyon choose Mikuru in the end (very unlikely), Haruhi may very well move to Brazil with LOL-Fang-tan as lesbian wife and grow coffee there.
What, no Menchi-loaf?

*GROAN* Haha…
Uhh…. I stumbled across this video on Youtube and… it appears to be an doujin (official?) game based on Higuarashi- that plays like ZAFT vs Earth Federation (Gundam VS Zeta for those not into imports)… anyone know anything about it?

actually i liked higurashi kai alot more than haruhi. when watching higurashi keep in mind that everything will be explained eventually, mostly in kai. it really is a great series, and i really hate it when theyre (the main characters) are labels as merely killers (or killer lolis, which is quite inaccurate considering the only loli characters are rika, satoko, and hanyuu and two of them havent even killed anyone), their situation is much more complex. there is a number of reasons why they commited the acts of murder that they did (not that im justifying it), one of which isnt explained til kai, but it is the most important and influential factor. have you watched kai all the way through yet?
