Thanks for everyone suggestions and input. Since I don’t have a lot of time to blog for spring, I don’t want to waste that time blogging something that makes me write about comice pears.

Code Geass R2 (anywhere from -200% to 200%)… bunny girl Kallen… bunny girl Kallen… bunny girl Kallen…

Chiko, Heiress of the Phantom Thief (40%)… ridiculous title aside, Bones, Aya Hirano, Rina Satou (as another Haruka), and potential delicious thigh meat. If it’s Jing, King of Bandits with delicious thigh meat and a halfway decent Aya Hirano performance, I’m stepping in.

Tower of Druaga (40%)… Gonzo! I don’t think I have ever blogged a Gonzo series… it could be the worst or best blogging decision that I have ever made… anyway, series composition and script: Shoji Gatoh. That’s all I need to know.

Da Capo II Second Season (40%)… just checking to see if you’re paying attention. (1%).

Allison & Lillia (20%)… potentially the next Spice and Wolf. Madhouse, which makes this palatable. Kikimaru asks why not just pick by studio? Well, I would if I see something from Kyoto, Gainax, or Doumu. But… nope… don’t see any. I am surprised Kyoto is taking the season off.

Kanokon (20%)… I don’t think I got enough of my USDA of fluffy tail with Spice and Wolf. I’m intrigued by the cast: Mamiko Noto, Ayako Kawasumi, and Chiwa Saitou. But while I like fanservice comedies, I’m not exactly good at writing about them.

Nabari no Ou (10%)… looks and smells like the next Tokyo Underground. Does have two interesting bits, a potential wrathful ninja loli as well as ELISA singing the ED.

To Love Ru (5%)… is Rosario Vampire the worst or best case for To Love Ru? I noticed that the director for this series previously worked on Rockman.exe and Zoids. I also noticed that the ANN entry doesn’t yet have a scriptwriter… a series like Chiko has 4 (albeit one worked on Gundam Seed Destiny, one worked on Kimikiss, and one worked on REC… I’ll lower Chiko from 40% to 35%).

Macross Frontier (5%)… do people remember Macross 7? I mean, it wasn’t good. 6.56 meta ranking, lower than Otome wa Boku. Macross Frontier is a direct sequel of 7. (The Macross franchise is one of those franchises where the movie remakes and the OVAs are better than the TV series.)

Blassreiter (5%)… Gonzo… I know nothing about this series.

Special A (5%)… thanks for the heads up Atashi: “Ouran without quality animation, comedy, and ignorance of traditional shojo angst.” You lowered this one by a solid 10 points.

Wagaya no Oinarisama (5%)… animation production ZEXCS. That’s all I need to know.

Itazura na Kiss (1%)… animation production: TMS Entertainment. WTF?

Kamen no Meido Guy (1%)… my readers are broken enough already.

Soul Eater (1%)… best case, the next D.Gray-Man. Worst case, the next Bleach.

Junjou Romantica (1%)… I was intrigued when tidal wrote that “The world will end if jason blogs junjo Romantica.” Unfortunately, it’s by Studio Deen. Studio Deen + male/male romance = ???

  1. Is… is that a man? You just can’t be too sure around here anymore.

Toshokan Sensou’s premise sounds promising. Hey, it’s Production I.G at the very least.

  2. I think Kyoto’s taking the season off to save funding and prepare for the production of whatever it is they’re making for the Summer or Fall season. All evidence points to the Haruhi sequel, but maybe they’ll surprise us with FMP: COMO. Or, *gasp* CLANNAD After Story, seeing as they’re going to end the series with Nagisa’s stage performance.

Code Geass R2 looks like a good bet, as series thats just begging to be blogged episode-to-episode, if only to track the plot’s sine curve fluctuation.

  3. I worry about this -200% possibility for Code Geass R2, after all you need a last bastion for the melon-pan party…a Mako-cakes victory just wouldn’t be as fun if you didn’t try… ;)

I still have more faith in Macross F, just sequels don’t always share the same fate as their predecessors, or has Mako-cakes robbed you of your memories of GSD?

  4. Since Code Geass R2 is looking like the headline show of spring (barring a last minute Haruhi announcement), I’d suggest blogging it without any obligation to maintain a relatively uniform post length. If we get 24 minutes of Kallen and CC in bunnysuits piloting mechs and being handcuffed together, go ahead and bust out an epic 3000+ word post with mass pictures. If instead we get Lulu and Rollo chasing a cat across a rooftop for an episode, just post a picture of Kyon-ko facepalming and move on.

Still, *someone* on the blogosphere needs to mock Taniguchi’s crack writing squad when they spit out such brilliance as a communist Chinese Federation with a figurehead emperor and a court of evil eunichs who wield all the power, and the collective internet seems to have decided Code Geass is the greatest anime in recent history save for Haruhi and Gurren Lagann.

  5. TOWER of DRUAGA?! Oh wow. Never played the original game, but this has me interested since I kept on seeing references to it in the Tales series. It’s like I’m feeling some sort of nostalgia through proxy.

Though…wasn’t plot non-existent in that game? Hm. I wonder what they’ll make up for the anime.

  6. that cosplayer is pretty cute. where’d u find image? 4chan?

  7. >>But while I like fanservice comedies, I’m not exactly good at writing about them.

    I beg to differ…

  8. Is Soul Eater a remake? I recall a series of either similar or exact name years ago. Or was it Soul Taker…. Interesting to see that Gonzo has both their A team and B team out again. Hoping Blassreiter is interesting, if I can even spell it correctly 5 out of 10 times.

  9. >>>that cosplayer is pretty cute. where’d u find image? 4chan?

Oh look! the walls are bleeding.

  10. I was looking at the Nabari no Ou ANN entry and was like: JC staff show, Rie Kugimiya and Satoshi Hino … AGAIN??? and then I realized Rie Kugimiya is voicing a boy ….

  11. No Golgo 13? Awww….

Screw Macross 7, that was a silly show with a serious premise. That combination never ends well. Macross Frontier though has potential, what with all the gay jokes and idol yuri subtext (if fanon holds true), plus yet another role for Konishi to die in a heroic big brother way yet again (granted, Bamboo Blade’s Ishida isn’t dead yet…).

Anyway, my recommendations would be to blog Code Geass S2 and Kanokon, since they fit you like a glove (or is it the other way around?) Plus, Haruhi S2.

  12. >Special A (5%)… thanks for the heads up Atashi: “Ouran without quality animation, comedy, and ignorance of traditional shojo angst.” You lowered this one by a solid 10 points.

It was just my speculation that it’d be QUALITY instead of quality… I haven’t even seen a trailer for the series, though the chances for quality are quite low. Or maybe it’ll turn out to be like La Corda d’oro

  13. “Tower of Druaga (40%)… Gonzo! I don’t think I have ever blogged a Gonzo series… it could be the worst or best blogging decision that I have ever made… anyway, series composition and script: Shoji Gatoh. That’s all I need to know.”

    From the linked ANN page:
    “Yukana as Succubus”

Well, I’m in. The rest of the cast looks pretty good, too, with a fair number of names I recognize, and Gatou is WIN. If he gets a budget (past the first couple episodes, thank you Gonzo), the series should be as well. And for those worried about the source having no plot, remember that Gatou scripted “Day of Sagittarius” for Haruhi S1. ‘Nuff said.

And yeah, you should probably cover Geass, because I don’t know if anyone else is planning to, and someone should… ^_^

  14. Wait, Macross Frontiers is a DIRECT sequel to Macross 7? I haven’t felt this way since I found out that Bridget was a trap….

  15. You must tell me that you have a HD version of the first pic.

Mathematically, what sense does -200% and 200% chance of an event happening mean?

The first episode of Macross Frontier seems like a winner. Although this series is said to be the sequel to 7, its plot will mainly follow the original series, which I heard is good.

  16. code geass is in a state of flux between awesome and Oh geass no! It will remain so until observed. Only Oharuhi knows how many episodes in until the wave form collapses…

  17. Hmmmm…”Listen to my song!”

    “Fire!”

    “Bomber!”

    Even oharuhi-sama follows Macross. :)

  18. >> Is Soul Eater a remake? I recall a series of either similar or exact name years ago. Or was it Soul Taker…

Yes the old one would be , which also spawned the Nurse Witch Komugi spin-off. Soul Eater is a different beast, based on a manga (6 volumes translated).

  19. Ouch! I forgot the closing tag. Well the link still works so it is all good…

  20. >>>> animation production: TMS Entertainment. WTF?

LOL, TMS Entertainment did Zenryoku Usagi :P

  21. Not surprised at To-Love-Ru … I wager its going to end at Lala father and follow a “alien of the week” formula with fanservice.

Kanokon commercial says “adult content”, it airs at 1.00 AM so … the manga does not give me much to go on about it and even if based on a light novel I think we remember the “succubus anime” that was also based on one and … well I do not think it turned out well.

As for Macross … I liked the “special” that aired and so I recommended it, since I never seen the earlier ones I cannot say, I doubt it can be worst that Code Geass …

  22. Funny thing about Macross. From what I understand, it was originally a concept for a parody of Space Battleship Yamato. Sometime during the mech design stage someone said, “You know, this looks kind of cool. Lets just run with it” and dropped it as a parody and wrote an original story instead. You can still see some of the parody elements in it, but it was basically turned into a mech show where love and song win out.

Macross 7 (Dynanite) does have a scene I like. The female Zentrati return and someone suggest “Minmay Attack” (my brain immediately says, “Oh god no”) folllowed by the lead singer getting pissed off enough to shoot a speaker intto the bridge of the enemy flagship and blast his music at them. They aliens go off on a shooting spree for a minute but then we see that they are actually just going total fangirl over him. The WTF faces on all the humans is priceless at this point.

  23. I think that Spring overall is not looking to be going to be nearly as fun as it was last year, to be honest. Just my opinion on that, but nothing seems to leap-out at me like Gurren Lagann, Darker than Black, Lucky Star, or whatnot did last year, or the various pile of neatness that was Fall.

Here’s to hoping I’m surprised, but should be interesting.

As an additional note, the picture at the beginning of the post seems to be in perpetual load mode. You should prolly check on that, seeing as I wouldn’t mind putting that in the screensaver folder for later use <_<.

    ANd stuff.

  24. Why bother with first-time-Gonzoblogging this season, if you’re even a little tepid about it? “Strike Witches” is supposedly slated for the Summer, and we all remember the promo for that from last year, right?

  25. Thanks to the idiocy of episode 10 of R+V (which has blinded me for life), I will have to hunt you down and subject you to 96 consecutive hours of yaoi hentai, if you dare blog any Gonzo series this spring. Not just any yaoi hentai, but bad yaoi hentai.

    “Just say NO to Gonzo!”

  26. I’m going to suggest blogging Golgo 13, as long as he turns out to be as badass as he should be (and as ridiculously badass as the movie, which is fantastically 80s).

If the show takes itself as seriously as Golgo himself does this has the potential to be dark, bloody and action packed. It also has the potential to be unintentionally hilarious, especially if Golgo continues to get women throwing themselves at him and saying “can you pull my trigger just once? Quietly and gently…” (that’s an actual line from the movie). I just hope it gets subbed.

  27. Druaga, eh? Holy cow, should I reveal that the only reason I know that game is because of Namco X Capcom? Oh wait…

  28. Spring’s always the hottest season for me ^____^

  29. Utu has died.

    *Ding!*

  30. >> Kamen no Meido Guy (1%)… my readers are broken enough already.

Anyone remember THIS? :D How things change, especially with this and Macross F.
