A heart. A guitar. And a sword.
#7: Angel Beats
Also wins for 2010:
- Best Girl Band
- Best TK
- Most Awesome Rocket Chairs
- Best Friends
- The We’re Not Trying To Rip-off Haruhi Suzumiya Really Award
Keep on dancing! Before Charlie Sheen and his bi-winning ways, there was TK, who is more than just a winning warlock. TK is the heart and soul of Angel Beats. Aside from TK, what else did this show have? Some good use of repetition humor, a great girl band in Girls Dead Monster, good animation, some Haruhi knock-off moments, and a plot that could best described as “Jun Maeda is auditioning to be head writer of Code Geass III.” But, for this blog, that’s a good thing. Code Geass is a great franchise.
#6: K-fucking-On!!
Also wins for 2010:
- Best Attempt to Bring Back Vintage 80s Fashion
- Best Friends
- Most Polarizing
- Most Mugilicious
- Most Profitable
That’s right. K-fucking-On!! At this point, you’re either on the Mugilicious Express, or you’re not. If you’re on, you get some of the finest quality low calorie slice-of-life anime. A few episodes worth noting: Mugi’s and Ritsu’s day-to (Mugilicious in twintails), Yui wearing meido outfit to class (Yui being Yui at her finest), Afterschool Tea Time’s last concert (for now), and Mio’s stalker-chan episode (MIO MIO MIO MIO MIO MIO MIO MIO).
#5: Katanagatari
Also wins for 2010:
- Best Shark Slicing
- Best Imouto
- Most Forgivable Troll Move
- Most Unstoppable Human Sword
- The Lord of the Rings Memorial Walking and Talking Award
There’s just a lot to like about Katanagatari… Togame fanservice, Shichika being Shichika, Nanami (oh yes Nanami), sharks being sliced in half, interesting battles, distinctive animation, and an ending foreshadowing (possibly?) of Hitagi End. And a lot of walking and talking. A lot. The two Nanami–centric episodes were some of the best single episodes of the past year. I just hope the ending for Katanagatari doesn’t foreshadow “Hitagi End.”
That Mugi episode was where K-On S2 was at, good choice. Some other good episodes there too.
Angel Beats should also be considered for Best Lemming Impression of 2010. There’s the cliff at the end of episode 9 ……… and off we launch.
Good shows all around. Reminded me that 2010 wasn’t totally devoid of good anime (though it certainly felt like it at times eh?). I’m also sure there a Heart-Under-Blade (yay loli-vampires) reference in that title call.
Jason, you cheater! You said in the previous post that K-On!! was #1.
That reminds me…the Minami-ke posts are done yet either. And there was an announcement that there will be more Minami-ke.
How the hell is Katanagatari not #1?
WHAT?! K-frigid-ON!! is not numero uno?! Jason I’m dissapoint.
Teh hordes of Mugilicious Takuan will overwhelm you:
